I've been wanting this watch badly for almost a year, finally broke down and bought it. I love it. I know many prefer the black nylon strap, but I think this watch is elevated supremely when worn with a black leather Marathon strap, manages to look very elegant. One minor quibble is the box though. For the price, couldn't Marathon sell it in a nicer box? Even Luminox has those really neat mini ammo crate boxes for their watches, but Marathon comes in an underwhelming tin.
I have been trying to decide on which tritium illuminated watch to get, I liked their 36mm GSAR diver so much I bought it after watching your video. Canadian military heritage meets Swiss SW200 automatic! Thank you for sharing!
Got the date version & put it on Marathon orange 🍊 rubber strap, also got black 🐈⬛ rubber strap as rubber works better with the steel case than nylon Nato for me 😊
I have the 36mm Officers mechanical. I don't know if the regulate them but mine is running at 0 s/d for 5 months. Amazing eta 2801 movement. I declined the touque/hat since I live in Canada and have a box full of them.
Being Canadian I purchased my GSAR off their website and got the hat, bag and patch when it arrived. I'm seriously thing if this as my new daily driver. With the steel case and improved quartz movement its hard to beat at that price.
@@garymorris4029 Have a look at the numbers . This is built to military specifications and has tritium tubes of course but price increase comes down to the movement, it has an ETA F06.412 High-Torque Quartz movement with an accuracy of +/- 10 seconds PER YEAR. Much like the Longines VHP, Breitling Super quartz, Grand Seiko 9F and Citizen's Chronometer lines and those are all, 2,3,4, times as much if not more.
Cool watch, actually, it could be a GMT watch by use of the 12 hour bezel. Especially traveling between short range distance. Like me, live in Hong Kong , but travel to Japan each year , just +1 hour in time zone. Then rotate the bezel to +1 , that is the Japan time. Easy.
@@fabiandee8178 yeah the Marathon website throws in a free branded winter hat with purchase. No biggie just a little extra and they are doing there Black Friday sale.
how did they come up with a 900$ pricepoint. I dont see the value. Citizen makes full titanium quartz watches (with titanium bracelet) for like 150$ also you can get swiss made tritium watches for 300$ so the tritium is also not that expensive.
ALWAYS choose a no-date. You know how people say you don't need to look at your watch for the time? I disagree, but you definitely don't need to look at it for the date! Which makes almost every watch uglier and is a hassle to reset (although less true on Quartz). The movement in this watch is very impressive, btw. It has an impact resistance feature where the the hands will lock upon impact, and it responds much faster than an airbag on a car. It also also HYPER accurate (+/- 10 seconds a YEAR). I was looking at CWC, but chose this over them ultimately because of the superior movement.
The ONLY thing I don’t like about this watch ( and that has actually kept me from picking it up ) is the “ghost” position for the date. I have the date version of this watch and wish they made this no-date model with only a “one click” pull-out crown.
Kinda new to this hobby so I'm genuinely curious why a ghost position is that big of a dislike? It's a half second nuisance and how often are people even using the crown on a quartz watch with high accuracy and no date like this one?
@@Mackster248it makes a watch come off as unfinished. You spend a lot of money on these things, only to be met with disappointment when things come of as cheap or unfinished.
that's less of an issue on the quartz, the movement costs $50, on a mech, yes you would have a point. But a $50 movement in a $900 watch ;-) is that value for money?
