@@SassyAlien The poor parts of PG are poor, yes. But Friendly, Woodmore, Kettering, Ft. Washington and Mitchellville are on the top 10 list of most affluent black neighborhoods in the country.
He actually got it pretty spot on. Though people from Montgomery County might disagree. The areas outside the three cities he mentioned is pretty middle class though. It's where the not rich but not poor white people live in the D.C. area. That and Alexandria in Virginia.
Yes. He was mistaken about Baltimore. The farther north you go from Downtown the more affluent it becomes. Johns Hopkins, Roland Park, Canterbury, Stoneleigh, Towson, Cockeysville up to Timmonium is called and considered Greater Baltimore. It's the west, east and south of Baltimore that needs the help.
@@zamorapakalolo6699 yes and after watching this video he does not know the state of Maryland that I live in. Obviously, he talked to the wrong people or the right ones didn't care to talk with him.
Right, he chose to only show the bad streets. All the areas he circled are nice neighborhoods. He knows nothing. And no mention of Fells, Fed hill, Canton, Patterson Park, all nice areas.
I’ve lived in Maryland most of my life. I don’t say hun or Warshington, and I don’t put Old Bay on anything except crabs. I root for the Terps, the Skins, and the Nats, and I’m very much missing my sports. Maryland is a pretty great state and has just about anything you could want. Thanks for doing a video on our great state!
University of Maryland is in PG county! MGM Casino is in PG County, as well as Bowie State, the National Harbor, NASA Goddard space Center. Don’t sleep on PG. yes parts of it are hood but not everything.
Also as someone who’s lived in Baltimore briefly and walked around the city it’s not as bad as he makes it out to be you just need to have street smarts
I've lived in, walked in, and driven in Baltimore City. Like any big city, it has places that are bad, places that are ground into poverty, places that are less safe than others. If you only film the unattractive streets, then you are giving a poor overview of the city. During the Revolutionary War, the country's capital was moved to Baltimore and the State Capital in Annapolis has the oldest still operating Capitol Building.
As a person who went to Johns Hopkins University, the neighborhoods and streets are not as dangerous as portrayed in the video. I actually felt safe in that part of area in north Baltimore City. There are some rich neighborhoods near the campus and nice coffee shops and clothing stores near the campus as well.
As someone from Maryland the things he said are very debatable it depends on which parts your going to and the people you talk to. Take everything he said with a gran of salt❤️
I'm from Bethesda Maryland, I'm in Houston Texas now, for 30 something years, miss maryland, crab boils, fishing, visiting Georgetown...great state, lived in frederick and thurmont Maryland, in the country, was gorgeous.
Yep! Frederick, like all other cities in MD, have their good areas and bad ones. One simply has to know which areas are which. I'm still in Frederick County, and I love it.
I'm currently living in Bethesda, changed so much, people no longer afford here single house starts at 2mil+. I'm moving to Rosemary Beach next year can't wait
I live in Maryland and you have no clue what you're talking about I've lived in Maryland 35 years You have no idea about the heritage of Maryland first of all Maryland is not classified as a southern state it's obvious to me by watching this video you're clueless
Actually Maryland is a southern state. Anything south of the Mason Dixon Line is considered the south. Due to the liberal nature of the state it now identifies more with the north. Even the state song calls for the throwing off of tyranny and helping our sister state Virginia.
i’m far from western maryland but when i do go to the cumberland area for a family reunion it is beautiful and maryland is a mix of everything but the more west you go the more pretty it gets .
Pretty amazing how RICH the state of Maryland is! RICHEST of all 50 states by median household income, even more amazing considing how poor the majority of Baltimore is, and drags it down considerably!
Hey Lauren am sorry you don’t know me my name is David belote I was flipping through the comments sections when I came across your comments i decided to know you more hope you don’t mind
For real. To not even mention Leonardtown or Solomons makes me think he didn’t spend much time researching. Now I’m thinking his other videos aren’t very accurate.
I'm from PG county by the way of Washington DC and our accent is way different than Baltimore. Alot of us have DC roots from the music to family members.

Very well said. And it's obvious that this guy has never visited most of the places he makes videos about. Most likely spends about 15 minutes doing online research, finds some stock photos, and knocks out a video in less than an hour.
Basically this video is saying what everyone in Baltimore thinks: everything in Maryland outside of Baltimore is hillbilly town and north Baltimore is dangerous. But this video didn’t mention all the nice parts of Baltimore, like Fells Point, Federal Hill, the inner harbor, Roland park, etc.
Um, North Baltimore is the wealthiest and least dangerous part of the city. I do agree, of course, that the areas you mentioned are nice. BTW, Roland Park is in North Baltimore.
I can definitely vouch for Roland Park area, I went to that elementary school! Catonsville, Patterson Park, Mt Vernon, Reistertown, and Whitelock. It’s a small city with a lot of gems 💎
THIS guy seems to take a rather shallow view and understanding of many places he visits. Who is he anyway? Where is he from? Where did he go to school and for how long? He does hit on some of our stereotypical flaws. We’re a fractured state, America in miniature, they used to say. Geographically and socially. I think he’s too young to have heard that, or just not bright enough to pick up on the nuances. Little better than BS?
I’ve lived in different parts of MD for the past 20 years. Prince George’s county is the wealthiest Black county in the country. Millionaires..Doctors, lawyers, engineers.. great homes in that county. I lived there as a child and 2 of my sisters currently have homes there. Baltimore is just as bad as you’ve said. My university was in Cumberland and it’s peaceful and scenic. Locals were not as conservative as portrayed. I’ve lived in Montgomery county for almost 2 years and it’s one of the best counties in MD so that part correct.
I live here and many of the things just aren’t so true anymore. I moved here 35 years ago, and like many cities it is changing. Not all good or all bad.
Hello Janet am sorry you don’t know me my name is David belote I was flipping through the comments sections when I came across your comments i decided to know you more hope you don’t mind
This video is pretty inaccurate. I don't know where this guy gets his info but he's obviously not big on fact checking. He's right about some things, but mostly, he's just regurgitating false information. His geography is pretty incorrect as well.
I moved away from MD and hate it but please put some respect of Prince Georges County and show pictures of the nice townhomes and single family homes that people live in AND OWN ! Bowie, Waldorf & Upper Marlboro are all nice places and Largo is coming along also 🤘🏽! Baltimore and it’s surrounding parts are its own thing so to speak !
My fiancés parents are from Thailand. They came here with nothing and built a wonderful life for their 2 daughters in Montgomery county. Maryland is the 9th most diverse state and number 1 in Asian population.
Baltimore born and raised. Guy got a lot right here but he missed the mark on some things 1. Politicians are reluctant to gentrifying baltimore city would cause rents would be astronomically high. They have already risen a ridiculous percentage over the past couple years and most people in baltimore city are living at or below poverty levels. If in 2018 your rent was 900, theres no reason why that same place should rent for 1300 two years later. Gentrification brings people with higher incomes in the impoverished hood seeing low rents and therefore landlords jack those prices up. Doesnt affect the gentrifiers, but affects the long term residents greatly. A vast majority of homes in the city are rental properties. Its not about losing support. Its about not having a place to live. 2. We did not climb the gates of M&T Bank to watch the ravens play, at least not to my knowledge and the clip. We climbed the gate to participate in the Superbowl celebration ceremony in 2012 because the stadium was at capacity and they closed the gates. It was a big deal. They shut down downtown and my job gave us a break to attend. But yes we are die hard ravens fans. I have a tattoo 3. You also left out that Maryland is one of the wealthiest states comprised of African Americans in the nation 4. The accents - The only two detectable accents we really have are Rural white accents (all of Maryland) and Black city accents (Baltimore City): The rural whites are the ones who say "hon'" (honey) and "wooder" (Water). We say "tew" (too) "urn" (iron, aaron, urn), "zink" (sink), "oinch" (orange). PG/MoCo/DC has their own lingo and it confuses us sometimes if we dont go to DC often.
Baltimore residents absolutely have a very distinct accent, and yes the long time residents do say hon. Three distinct regions, I-95 corridor, Western MD, and Eastern Shore and would include the counties s of DC as essentially Eastern Shore
I live in Upper Marlboro, and stay in Marlboro Ridge, a predominately black wealthy neighborhood. you should’ve talked about all the parts, not just shown the seemingly bad parts.
I bagan working as a snowbird driver last year. And out of the 30 states I have been to this past year, MD has been the one to surprise me the most. I stayed in Silver Springs. I loved my night there and want to make a point to spend more time there in the future.
I'd like to agree with you, bit there really are parts of Baltimore that are neglected. The state, let alone the city, hasn't done enough to invest in the community to bring those areas back up.
Montgomery County Rocville's Lincoln Park was Bad in 80's 90's, Rockville Rocks 1987, but cleaned up these days, Gaithersburg 124 is a under rated Ghetto
Takoma Park is a hipster liberal white neighborhood. Langley Park is the hood not Takoma. A tiny sliver of Takoma Park right off 650 near the border with North Capitol DC is ghetto but if you drive up Carrol st to Takoma dc anywhere off piney branch south of Sligo creek pkwy it’s straight up gentrified
@@beambooi6431 Yep, I used to live right in that area of 650 (New Hampshire Ave for those who don't know) in the Belford Towers projects. Pretty much everything you said that whole area is true.
I grew up in Cecil County, Maryland. Moved away 5 years ago. I live in Rehobeth Beach, Delaware now. I was shoot at in Baltimore down by John Hopkins...coming back from an continuing education course.
Hey Sandra am sorry you don’t know me my name is David belote I was flipping through the comments sections when I came across your comments i decided to know you more hope you don’t mind
Considering how you regard Baltimore, I could only imagine what thoughts you have on places like Albuquerque, Detroit, and well the entirety of Florida. 😂
Baltimore is arguably worse. It's not better then those places maybe on the same level but mostly worse. You've never experienced Baltimore. It's opposite of most cities because its all hood with a small section of good, while in other cities ots mostly good with small sections of hoods.
I lived on the outskirts of Baltimore for a year, and the more I knew about my neighborhood, the scareder I was. If you drove into the city from the West side, people would hang bags of crack in front of your windshield at the traffic lights. I lived in a bad neighborhood in Chicago for a while, and Baltimore is really a lot more dangerous. I got directions to Johns Hopkins in downtown Baltimore, and the woman giving me directions was telling me which lane to be on in which road, and added that I should run the light if anyone approached my car. This woman wasn't being paranoid. In fact she was amused at my ignorance about these things.
you may want to check your facts again about Prince George's County. This is the richest black county in America. Some of the medium income is well over areas in Montgomery County.
@@i1omnvv824 Just because an area is predominately black does not make it ghetto and trashy. I live in Princes Georges County and again check the numbers. There are some impoverish areas but much more upper middle class to wealthy cities in the county.
Yooo. I’m from Montgomery County and I never realized how much this is true. I really did think everyone in this part of the country used old bay. Also the rich parts of Montgomery county are basically only along the river, in the country up north and the south like in Potomac and Bethesda. Central Montgomery county (Gaithersburg) is bummy.
The ritziest parts of Montgomery County are Bethesda, Potomac and Chevy Chase. Rockville Pike running through Rockville is a train wreck with some okay parts but it’s mostly bad. Gaithersburg is decent with Kentlands and Lakelands being the best communities. Germantown is nicely suburban but slow and boring.
Actually, Rockville isn't bad at all. There's King Farm, Fallsgrove, and Pike and Rose that has a ton of rich ass people. Twinbrook is really the only eh part of Rockville. Gaithersburg is awful, excluding Kentlands - Montgomery Village is a big nope. You were right about Germantown though
I’ve came from Northeast Baltimore and my grandparents moved in there from the 1940s. Seeing the history of the street they lived on has changed my perspective that the crack era has ruined Northeast Baltimore. I live in Randallstown now and I have to say that NE Baltimore you aren’t “bound to get shot”. The people there have a strong community.
As a Marylander I approve of this video. The map was very accurate, Old bay is great on chicken wings, crabs, fish, and fries, and the stereotypes were pretty on the mark.
I've lived in Maryland most of my life, mostly in Montgomery County. This place SUCKS!!! Why you ask? Besides what was already mentioned, which is just scratching the surface, The traffic is ReDicUlOuS... Not just the congestion either, bad enough you can't get anywhere fast, they have the nerve too have speed cameras EVERYWHERE in places where you wouldn't think they should be, which is the whole point... Bad enough this place fleeces you on taxes, but to ad insult to injury they dive in your pocket even more, and the traffic lights our timed terribly, no sooner then you stop at a major intersection and sit for 2mins your stopping again... this can go on for several blocks... and one would think with all the revenue that's generated in this pristine wealthy suburb of neighboring Washington D.C. that it would have decent infrastructure, Wrong... the roads are horrendous and there always seems to be road issues and construction which adds more issues to getting around, and Not to knock the people of N.J. Philly or N.Y. but they have infiltrated this area, which has added to the traffic, crime and higher insurance premiums... You would expect this being such a high status profile area, that there wouldn't be on a short supply of anything at the store's, Wrong... This place amazes me that it's always out of things in the store's, supply and demand isn't the order of the day here... Then there's the all probing police state, there's so many different kinds of police here you'd think your living in a National Police Force... I could keep going on, but I think your getting the picture, this place is a Major Joke...
He's right, we hate Montgomery County. And I'm from Pg County, I never heard of a chicken necker and carpet baggers lol. I need to use these new slangs
I live on the Eastern Shore and can confirm that lots of locals refer to non-locals as chicken neckers. I can’t say I’ve heard the term carpet bagger yet, though.
Tom Selleck, Pat Sajak, Chef Ettore Boiardi, Roy Clark, Danny Gatton... there's a huge list of notables who called Maryland "home" at one point or another!
As a lifelong Marylander your characterization of Baltimore is wrong . I was born in and raised in this city. I’m college education and an African American woman and while yes my city has problems like many places please in the future learn about the people before you speak . Oh by the way we love crabs but, we don’t put Old Bay on everything.
YEAAAAAA moco gang gang but i am not rich and I definitely live on the side of moco were its smaller houses and many minorities. I really like western maryland tho and also the bay.
An interesting take on the state of Maryland, but I'm just here to state the stats: Maryland currently ranks as the number 1 state in the U.S. that has the highest median household income at an estimated $86,738. Howard County, Maryland, ranks 7th amongst the wealthiest counties in the nation, places 12th amongst urban counties with high-performing economies, and comes in at number 16 as one of the healthiest communities in which one can live. HC has a median income of more than $121,000. (Sources: U.S. News, U.S. Census Bureau, Bureau of Labor Statistics Data, and U.S. Dept. of Health and Human Services - Dec. 2020 to present). However, if we are not just counting states, the nation's Capital, the District of Columbia, has the highest median household income of any 'state' at an estimated $92,266. Therefore, technically, D.C. comes in at #1 and Maryland comes in at #2. (Source: U.S. Census Bureau)
What part of Fredrick County ? I lived in Frederick City , Walkersville and Thurmont. My parents live in Spring Ridge. I went to Walkersville High School.
Daniel Francella i grew up in New Market Urbana area. my cousins went to walkersville HS and i went to urbana hs 2004. recently lived off of rosemont ave in frederick city
Thanks for putting the image of Joe Thiesman’s leg getting broken into pieces by LT into my head Mappy! I remember watching that game live with my dad. My dad yelled out “old Joe got hit so hard I felt it in Denver!” Thanks for the great content Nick. Love all of your vids. Keep up the great work and stay safe and healthy bro.
I'm from MoCo, but from the "hood" of MoCo (Wheaton, Silver Spring area). Also, people from Montgomery County don't care for Old Bay at all (since that's a Baltimore / Eastern shore thing).
What are you talking about? I'm from D.C. but currently live in MD. You were mad disrespectful towards MD and don't have a clue. About only 30% of that ish you spouted was true. FYI... I hate Old Bay seasoning and not a big fan of crabs.
Living in Maryland my whole life, you got most of it right! Especially about Baltimore and western Maryland haha. No one really says hon though. Cheers
The western shore part of Maryland is my favorite part. My uncle has property in Bushwood area and there are lots of amish and catholic churches and maritime towns. It is absolutely gorgeous there! My uncle lived in Fairfax for a while which is just a huge crowded boring suburb but he used to live in Chevy Chase which is definitely more upscale and lots of it is along the mountains. Overall its a state i love visiting but would never put up with the crowd and cost of living
I've lived in Hagerstown Maryland my entire life. I've been to several other places including New York City and Philadelphia just to name a few but I prefer Hagerstown Maryland. I used to work for a moving company and traveled to lots of places in that time.
Ever been to Maryland? My family came on the Ark and Dove and here we stayed. We live in an area you might consider country bumpkinish. When you refer to snobs it's a pretty good description of yourself.
Hey Nick! Thanks for talking about my home state. I was born and raised and still live in Silver Spring, MD. It would had been nice if you mentioned Columbia and Towson, those are some nice towns too in Maryland. Stay awesome, I love your channel and watch your videos religiously.
Yes, the dating scene is trash in the DC area. It seems like whenever I venture down South, the women just seem a bit more warm and more assertive also. There are way too many crazy, unstable women in the DMV though, true, true.
I’m originally from California. I moved to Maryland 1990. And I’ve been very happy with my decision. Within an hour and a half you could be almost anywhere Virginia Delaware Pennsylvania West Virginia and New York is a three hour train ride. There is so much to do in Maryland there’s a lot of nature and there’s a lot of museums. The people for the most part are very nice. I will say I don’t live in Baltimore or DC. I do live in Howard County. I have not met any Karen’s in Howard County. The education here is good also. I will say it’s very expensive to live here and that’s doing most part two we have good roads decent education medium weather and there’s a lot to do. I would say there’s a lot of people also that work for the government here. You don’t meet very many original Marylanders. I just caught the comment about people driving over the bridge to get cheap booze. I have now lost all respect for this guy. Because that’s a lie. It takes a lot of time to get over that bridge. I would not listen to this fella anymore. Goodbye everybody have a good life
I think Maryland is boring been living here all my life and I'm from Annapolis but the only thing attracts me is Ocean City and Frederick we got the best flag too.
It is honestly impressive how well Montgomery county is wrong. It doesn’t get enough credit. They have an amazing recycling program and no landfills in the county, they instead have an energy transfer station, look it up. Besides that, their libraries are beautiful and the county programs are very well run. Their community college is probably one of the best in the entire country. It’s a great place to live.

I lived in and around Baltimore for over 20 years and it is not as bad as is portrayed in this video. Yes, West Baltimore, North Baltimore around West Northern Parkway and Govans are really rough. And the locals called it "The City that Bleeds" for a reason. But, there are alot of great, fun neighborhoods all over Baltimore. Put Old Bay on french fries. You wont be sorry, hon. I loved my time living in Maryland and even miss it. Mountains and rolling hill country in the West with lots of hillbillies. Waterfront along the Bay and Eastern shore. Great food. Lots to do. Not crazy expensive to live. Diverse, interesting people. I currently live in Connecticut and I dream of living in MD once again.
So thete is a geographic anomaly in the middle of the state which is very narrow only (1) mile wide in between Pennsylvania on the north and West Virginia on the south. The town of Hancock is on this (1) mile strip. People go back and forth over the border fir example to buy cheaper liquor in Pa . I did a google search and found a very interestung article in the LA times (I don't read this paper) but google this article "Maryland's Waist- narrow strip is geographic anomaly." If you ever produce another video about Maryland you might want to mention Actually a video about geographic abnornalites across the US would be a very interesting video
Found this video by accident and shared it with students. I clarified the parts he got wrong and as usual Carroll County was not even mentioned. But, we do put Old Bay on everything, we are patriotic and our flag is amazing as it represents the unification of the citizens after the Civil War ended. They missed the Preakness, Merriweather Post, the State Fair and so much more. The "O" during the National Anthem at the Orioles games has made it's way across the country as you can hear it at an O's vs. Mariners game in Seattle through the whole stadium. That is a big deal!
Western Maryland is where I live and it’s in Washington county and there’s a LOT of rich people who are mostly republicans and there’s not actually much crime in western Maryland
