Unboxing My Last Tudor: Why I'll Never Buy Another Tudor Watch & The Date-Day Is A Future Classic

Today I share a watch unboxing of a Tudor I've been hunting for several months-the recently discontinued Tudor Date-Day 76213. But this is no ordinary Tudor, because it highlights key developments related to the brand, and why it's going to be more collectible and desired in the coming years than ever before. As I begin to scale down my own watch collection, where does this fit in my collecting journey? And why is this quite possibly going to be the last watch I ever buy from Tudor? In this video I also discuss the positives and negatives of this watch, my personal collecting journey with Tudor watches, why I prefer vintage pre-2009 Tudor, the ever-present relationship with its big brother brand Rolex, and what I'd like to see from Tudor in the future. What do you think about the Tudor Date-Day in this video? Please share in the comments!

You were the first to introduce me The Passion of collection and watchmaking and I can't tell you how grateful I am for your videos and your tag team videos with Mark. I have 15 watches now cama plan to go no more than 20. And I know what I like. You are the one who taught me how to how to do that and be respectful of the history behind everything we see. If you want to reduce your collection, that's perfectly fine with me. I know that all the watches I like in my collection give me some of those same feelings and you're the one who was instrumental in that. Keep the ones you love and enjoy.

You're educated and well thought out writing is immersive, humorous, thought provoking, and enlightening. TGV it's always a pleasure to experience your enthusiasm on an unboxing. I simply cannot believe you will manage to get your collection down to only 4 watches at this stage in my collection arc. At the moment, mine is heading in the other direction, somewhat under the influence of your excellent videos, which I cannot believe I have been watching since I started collecting around the time of the covid crisis of 2020. For my part, I think 7 is the perfect number. One watch change every day, covering most of the major complications and styles. As it happens, my most recent acquisition was also a Tudor, the unobtanium ivory dial Black Bay Panda Chrono, which the AD made me wait around a year for. It's one beefy chap of a watch!

The Casio exception rule is a must! I can't imagine myself not having at least a couple of Gs (let's say a square a an oak) and a couple of vintage digital Casios (one black resin and one chrome coated) as I do wear these a lot. As always, a fantastic video, thank you! Informative, honest and forthright. I think if you're eventually going to only have one Tudor, then this is an exceptional choice. I also commend your plan to reduce your collection. I find myself in a very similar boat and am refocusing my collection to those 3 or 4 pieces that best suit my lifestyle and military career. Whilst I will keep learning and appreciating the art and technology that goes into timekeeping, the pieces I will keep will be those that I am either connected to personally, or function for me practically.

I think once I have the tudor that will be me done, they are all the watches I will ever need. All strap monsters and all versatile has hell. Grazie mille for your content Tristiano 🙏

It's interesting how many of us go through the same watch hobby arc. I got into the hobby just over a decade ago and have probably bought and sold around 30 watches in that time. I peaked at around 15 total at one time. In the last 3 years I have slowly winnowed it down to 2 which are the most meaningful to me and have never been happier. TBH I may add a third in the next year or so just for a little variety, but could never see myself going back to more than that.

Same. Im down to a few vintage watches, a dress watch, a stainless Maurice Lacroix because I love the style and finish, and my grail watch, my white gold Rolex Day Date. I have no desire to get any more, but if I ever do they'll be vintage watches because they're more meaningful to me. I was close to 20 watches at one point; but buying relatively affordable modern watches lost all meaning. It felt as meaningless as buying a new shirt.

I really like your idea of scaling your watch collection down in order to have less clutter and have a few really fantastic timepieces instead of many mediocre watches. What's that old saying, "announcing your plans is the best way to make God laugh" just when you are on track a new watch comes out 😆 I know how you feel though. When I got my Doxa Sub300 Sea rambler earlier this year I felt like my collection was where I wanted it to be. All that was left was a grail piece that would take a ton of saving and maybe a lucky deal on the Bay of something I'd been keeping an eye out for. Then all of a sudden Doxa releases a Clive Cussler tribute watch and I'm up in arms trying to make the budget work. Even my watches that don't get much wrist time I find it hard to part with. That's why I've been trying to plan towards some sort of endgame, some final piece of the puzzle in my collection. It's just so hard when new releases like the new Aquastar 60 offer such an enticing product. Good with your collecting luck my friend.

In-house movements just don’t do anything special for me, regardless of the brand. I admire the sensibility and practicality of getting ETA’s serviced much more readily and with less cost. If given a choice, I would almost always go with a vintage watch over a modern design, but that’s just me. Superb content as always! Thank you!🥃

Good goal TGV. I went through dozens of watches since 2017. Mostly to discover my preferences. I now have 7 left and wouldn't want less or more watches.

I’ve got a Prince Oysterdate 74000 from the 80’s and it’s such a great watch for the money. Dresses up and down easily, and has all the Rolex charm and look without the expensive service costs.

Tgv you said it for a future Tudor! A 39mm chronograph would be Killer. I own a Bb58 and it’s perfect on my wrist and couldn’t imagine a chronograph. Great thoughts my man. Love your Tudor Date/Day Prince.

Mr. Tgv, I really appreciate this video. I have the diamond studded face. love it. Was wondering where you picked up your after market braclet jubilee? I would love to add it to my watch. Have been looking for a good one.

I was lucky enough to get a crack at buying the Tudor Chrono from an AD and jumped on it. Beautiful white dial and hands with contrasting black chrono dials. It’s become one of my favourite watches to wear. Looks fantastic! I’ve ordered a black rubber strap for it as well.

Tudor S&G’s are really nice. I’ve always liked them. Although I’ve added them to my shopping cart many times, I just can’t make myself hit the checkout button. I always end up going a more “relaxed” or “casual” with what I buy. Nice watch man…enjoy it.

I love the Black Bays even though they're popular, but I want to see what Tudor's design team comes up with if they aren't forced to lean so heavily on their history. After all, if they don't release new designs now, what will they have to rerelease in another 50 years?

T, the opening reel is on another level (also spotted something that made me smile) . You're intros are the best in the business for sure. In other news I do not believe a word of it re condensing your collection. Why you lie? 😂😂😂. Best as always. Matthew

Congrats on a lovely Tudor. As for me, Tudor was my first luxury watch. I own a BB58, black/gilt, on a variety of straps. Tudor certainly got this one "right" as I prefer wearing it over my Starbucks Sub. I will never sell it and will leave it to my son. Every time I wear it, I feel like the "true" James Bond - Sean Connery. Cheers!

Hi TGV Great video and great content in general! I just pulled the trigger on a 76213 myself and this video is a big reason why. Can you perhaps tell me where you bought your aftermarket jubilee bracelet and do you have any recommendations for a great aftermarket jubilee bracelet from a European country? Love from Denmark /Alexander

I own a 36mm Rolex President. Love the day date functions and just bought a new rose gold black dial Tissot Couturier. A beauty but wish it was 38mm vs 40.

Question: when you changed the PAM48 strap, did you use the pins/tubes for mounting or just regular pins?
