Generations is new to me. My boys are still in preschool and kindergarten, but I'm already looking for all kinds of resources for training them up in the faith as they grow. So thank you so much for introducing these resources! 🥰

Amazing flip through. You did so well and conveyed my thoughts and feelings about the Generations as well. I'm so excited to see more families using and supporting them! What a blessing they are to our families!

Can you tell me if the science and history textbooks are designed to be read by the student like GBS is? Or is it designed to be read by an adult?
@lindseysromalla
@lindseysromalla 4 месяца назад
@@StasiaAleen they’ve definitely made an effort to write it at the student’s level and it is written to the student, so strong readers could read it themselves. We use them as read alouds and I do the reading. They have samples of each book on their website, so that might be helpful to take a look at.

Amazing! We have been enjoying Taking Asia for Jesus - the photography is beautiful. So helpful to see when learning about a place that seems so far away.

My boys and I love Bob Shultz books, we are currently reading the Created to Work as well! Thanks for sharing about meeting with your children, I may implement that into our February schedule. I also appreciate a short chapter. You may also want to read Treasure of the Snow as a read aloud...it's so good!!

They are so wonderful! I really like all the "Taking the World for" series...I had the American History for HS but it was too textbook-y. The softcover books seem to be easier to get through.

What are your thoughts on using the taking____country Bks in upper grades? Do you think they are too grade specific?
@juiceboxhomeschool
@juiceboxhomeschool 2 месяца назад
So far, I have only used Taking Asia (Level 4), and I think it would be appropriate for grades 4-7, but it really depends on the child. I have seen samples of the writing of the Level 1 book, and you can tell the difference from that to the Level 4 book.

@@juiceboxhomeschool ok. This is helpful! I'm finding it hard to find things to do "as a family" bc I have a 5yr gap btwn my first two kids and last two kids. 🤪 I don't want to get anything to young for the oldest. . .

Do the generations read Alouds and study guides - are these for the parent to read or the student? Are the study guides for oral comprehension? Because the read alouds are grade specific and not family style has me wondering who’s supposed to be reading, lol.
@juiceboxhomeschool
@juiceboxhomeschool 6 месяцев назад
Great question! I’m going to be basing it on the read aloud. If it is a story I want to read together, and looks a little more challenging, I’ll use it as a family read aloud. You can use the study guides for written review or oral review, which ever works best!

Hi! After we finished our go-to Not Consumed studies called Keep Thy Heart (store.notconsumed.com?aff=393), the little kids are using Write the Word from Cultivate What Matters. My teen is going through a study from our church called 90 Days with Jesus. Her favorite personal studies are the teen studies from Daily Grace Co (this one - collabs.shop/kdnz2p)!

I wonder how this approaches other faiths. I'm having a hard time finding history, both religious and secular, that don't have a certain bias. It's a huge turn-off. I fully expect to have to dig on my own for objective history but it's incredibly disappointing to do months and months of research on curricula, then purchase it, only to find the ones you chose aren't nearly as good as you thought they were. Continuing that bias, I'm noticing only specific atrocities are mentioned and those atrocities are painted in one light or another. For example, people eating people in one culture is covered and looked down on (likely because it's so widely known they did this that it pretty much can't go unmentioned) but not another (likely because it's not nearly as widely known, despite the fact that it's fairly recent history!). In the latter, it's painted as W people being meanies to the other group. No mention of *WHY.* Groups being pushed out in some sort of way is also painted as simply W/Europeans/Christians are big ol' meanies instead of the *actual* reasons they wanted to push other groups out. One goes so far as to actually say, and I quote, "for no reason." Bologna sausage. You might not like the reason but there IS a reason. Often multiple. I am in no way supporting bad things in history. Not at all. I just want objective, true, FACTS. No opinions. No purposefully manipulative adjectives and adverbs. (Such as sadly, fortunately, horrific, etc) Or, at the very least, more than one side of the story. Not only that, but it irks me how shallow history curricula tend to go. I can understand why, especially in grade school levels, but come on...three very vague paragraphs on the War of 1812? Really? SIGH. Yes, we can dive deeper on our own. Yes, we DO dive deeper on our own. But that's not the point. Sigh. I'm thinking of just completely revamping history in our homeschool, skipping curricula, and just putting my own together myself because this is ridiculous. However, Generations does intrigue me. Thank you for going through this. I'll have to rewatch on a bigger screen so I can read the text better.

Great points! No perfect curriculum to please all, so I think it’s really smart of you to put together your own. Would love to hear what you find that you value!
