Sharif Sircar actually photography is the correct umbrella term. The individual stems are ‘stills’ and ‘video’ Videography is a made up term by non-professionals, but annoyingly it’s caught on.
I find it interesting that Brandon talks about how front-heavy the camera is when it looks like he hadn't inserted the heavy battery into the rear of the camera...
Always enjoy Brandon presenting. He's nerding out on his passion and it's well noted. I'll never get to truly use a camera at this level and so it's a weird enjoyment watching someone go over one briefly.
Seeing people who are enthusiastic about tech is why I joined this community in the first place. Short Circuit is one of the best things LMG has done in years. Love this stuff. I especially like the idea of having a lot of hosts to make sure the passion and the tech line up.
I'm working at the biggest publicly legal television company in Germany and we are using these cameras, like the FS7, for many outside shoots. But we are just broadcasting at 720p50. Even though our internal production standard is 1080i25(50fps), but every halfe frame gets downscaled to one 720p full frame, to save bandwith, in some weird way. So it's kind of funny when you guys talk about how these cameras can not film in 6k. Today I was able to cut some FS7 footage and I love how good it looks, even at 1080i.
I have no clue about cameras and I take maybe 5 pictures a year with my phone but I always make sure to watch Brandons camera videos cause they are so interesting for some reason
Man this really gives the C500 a run for it's money. That variable ND filter is super cool, and, as you said, incredibly useful for people who are a one person filming crew.
I love the linus crew. That said, Brandon has the best voice of the whole crew. Maybe voice over for all the other videos? 🤣 because I know you need more to do lol.
As a photography nerd, I really hope you guys start posting more photography and video tech stuff. Especially videos on the X-T4 and Canon R5/R6. Honestly photography has been going through an insane transformation with the mirrorless boom but sadly gets barely any mention on tech channels, even though cameras right now are as techy as you can get
I can imagine people watching this don't have any interest or idea what he is talking about. But somehow it's always nice to see things that you just cannot afford or will not buy ever.
Just to point one thing out. Thats all included in ONE package. Think about buying a phone in this scenario. The phone, 2 chargers, case, headphone jack adpater, tempered glass installed (+ 1 replacement + pads etc.) car charger etc.. that would be great times to live in.
If i remember correctly the Venice technically does not record 6K internally, since you have to attach the r7 recorder to record anything past 4K resolution. Also: the zoomservo on the sel 28-135 is a rather mixed bag for two reasons. One: the servomotor is rather slow and does not allow quickzooms. Two: Switching zoomcontrol to manual, does not in fact offer manual, mechanical zoomcontrol, but rather switches servozoom control from the rockers on the camerahandle/camera to the zoomring on the lens. Since the zoom remains servobased, maximum zoom speed remains the same. This can lead to the zoom lagging behind the zoomcontrol. Much as Canon with their locking EF Mount, Sony should have taken notice, of the locking ef Mount versions of RED or ARRI, which allow for lenses to be attached identically to their standard (e/ef) counterparts, to be locked down afterwards, allowing for singlehanded lenschanges. Additionally the lockring design can actually interfere with some third party mount adapters.
i'm some basics but i'm not really a camera guy although i'm still very interested it would be nice to have some on screen editor's notes to explain things like "full frame sensor"
An explanation of full frame sensor means very little on its own. It literally just refers to the size of the photosensitive bit. I agree that ltt has a knack of talking in jargon, but aside of explaining abbreviations there is little straightformat stuff that can be done to help that Brandon is not doing already.
@Brandon Sony uses a special micro USB connector which is a bit longer and has more pins, I remember 15, and it call’s it Multport. It can contro release shutter, electric zoom, aperture and focus. @ShortCircuit
To change lenses, set the body down on the rear of the unit on your desk or lap, so the lens points straight up, then undock. Less chance for it to fall, less fingers needed to hold it steady and gravity is working with you while securing. The negative is that the sensor is also pointed up while bare ... never optimal. And if fully kitted out with mounted peripherals, probably can't even do this.
I can’t help but think in a few months they’ll have a Mark II that films in 6K or even 8K. I think it’s one of the best 4K cameras you can get but 4K is on its last legs.
5:57 that's a weird complain... Cinema and Professional Broadcasting camera lenses mount in the same way as that. Especially PL-mount lenses. This allows to swap bodies without having to remove the lens assembly from the tripod and/or prevents damaging pins from twisting the lens (like in SLR/mirrorless lenses).
In a world were cameras keep getting smaller and smaller, I'm kind of glad to see that Sony still makes cameras that look like they could be doubled as a bazooka.
It's kinda funny when you put the reviewed camera footage vs what we see most of video (I assume main cam is RED?), that actually makes Sony's footage look bad :D
I can't wait till you guys get your six BMD Ursa Mini 12K's. Comparing Google prices the 12K cameras actually cheaper. So if it performs well Sony better up their game or at least reduce prices. you can actually use the full 12K capability of the sensor on the Ursa Mini Pro 12K so that's pretty amazing.
I am a Sony fan - all my (video) cameras are Sony. But it's definitely interesting to me to see BMD release Blackmagic URSA Mini Pro 12K for US$9,995. It does 220 fps in 4K Super 16, but as opposed to the 6k FX9, will record 12k footage @ 60fps. I don't even want to think about the storage required for 12k, but it is good to see competition.

Linus, seriously come on, set up a channel for Brandon to teach us all about cameras / photography and Anthony to teach us about Linux. It won't be the biggest money spinner but they are both great at it.
Clarifying note: XQD is not a Sony proprietary standard; rather, it is supported by the CompactFlash association. The CompactFlash association does charge a licensing and royalty fee for using their standard (just like how HDMI has a licensing fee). Sony and Nikon are two of the largest adopters, though Phase One also uses XQD in some of their cameras. It is likely to be superceded by CFexpress with backwards compatibility for XQD. The cards are bloody expensive, though...
Yo at 6:40 when you're mentioning the micro USB: Sony has done this weird semi proprietary thing that they call(ed) a multiport, it's micro USB with an extra row of pins deeper into the port. So on my A7 a micro USB can transfer data and charge the camera, but their weird long boi is needed for remote shutter and zoom.
IMI it's not a terrible solution because running the signals off dedicated pins means the device can have super simple electronics that basically act as switches, or at least use a simple bus. Running them all through a USB-aware controller requires drivers, potentially power in the device, and more expensive components (engineering student so I have done some work on this but this isn't a super professional analysis)
is this for LTT to keep for a few weeks and shoot videos with it and review it on the main channel? or is this it and you will send it back asap? or will LTT buy it to use forever?
