I got this pump from Amazon yesterday. When I saw the instructions I just couldn’t. Then I saw your video. You did a really good job of explaining, never even used instructions included. Thanks!
Video helped a lot! I’m 14 and had to order a new pump for my pool as my old ones motor gave up I hadn’t installed the first one as my mom had a boyfriend then so this helped and informed me on everything I needed to do!
I'm so happy that I could help you out. It can be a pain and the instructions not so clear. I made a lot of mistakes when I set up the first one I bought so I thought I'd make a video, but I never thought so many people would watch it! I only had about 400 subscribers when I put this up.😜 Congrats on getting the job done and thanks for writing. If you got any questions, just let me know. Cheers, Greg 😎👍
Hi, I just came across your comment while trying to decide if I should hire a pool company to install the new replacement pump I just bought or try to do it myself. Was it hard to do? BTW, so cool to read that you did all that by yourself at 14 years old! Not something you expect to hear from kids these days.
May 2022, got this model for 450 but came with a vacuum… wanted to add the salt water system but was sold out. It was 300 .. so I’m in search of. Great video. Thank you.
Yeah, when I made this video it was, $180 for the pump/filter and $250 for the salt system. Pre Covid Supply Issue times..... Working on my replacement pool now but I'll be reusing the pump and sw. Should be done in a couple weeks with the video. Thanks for stopping by.
Thank you so much! I bought a sand filter and it didn't come with any instructions and the filter says on it to go to their website to get the manual. I went to the website and there was no manual or contact information. With your video I was quickly able to get my new sand filter set up and running. I'm new to the pool world but I quickly found out that a sand filter was the way to go. Thanks again!
Nice video .. yes the centerpiece is for centering the filter processor tube and filter fan legs it’s mainly for not getting sand down in the tube if sand were to go onto the tube it would clog the fan filter jet holes …
Thanks man heading out to the coast early tomorrow morning finally going to have some flying videos I'm getting back into my groove depression is on the way down! 1👍👍👍
@@quantumphaser AWESOME brother. Stop in my treadmill session in the mornings..9am if you have time...... that's why I do it.. it's to beat the depression crap.. grrr. Greg I'm so happy you're feeling better.. fight fight fight fight.. God bless you Brother! Prayers sent from Philly! 🙏🙏🤙🤙🤙👍👍👍👍
Liked your shop vac. trick! And I loved your video. You are a great teacher with a soothing voice. Hope you are doing good and enjoying your pools. :-) Hi from Tucson!
Just got this filter and have yet set it up due to the overly complicated instructions that came in the box. Watching your video made it so simple! Thanks for taking the time to do this for us noobs!
Just as an FYI, the sand canister can only be placed one way into the base. There is an alignment hole and groove in the base that accepts the protruding tongue and groove in the canister. Unfortunately this places the valve in one direction which is towards my SWG.
Take a guess..... 7/26/21.... un boxed mine this morning.... 1130 thunder started..... 1210 started raining.... good video.... no way i would be able to do it with the manual.... thanks
It always knows when to rain on me.🤣 Glad the video helped you out. I never really read the manual, just use it for reference. I'm the kid that would throw out the instructions for the plastic model kit and wing it. Hopefully the new pool will be up soon as the one in the video was destroyed in a storm last spring. Then I'll be making more pool videos.
I bought one of these from a friend- my two questions are; 1) how do I set the timer on the salt-chlorine generator to match with my filter? 2) how do I attach and operate the vacuum?
Before installing sand. Add half full of water. That let's the sand shift and settle around the laterals. If you don't you may crack your laterals. That'll let you sand e pumped into the pool. Not good. Also, get rid of the playground sand and go buy white, 20 micron silica pool sand
great explain mine will not filter meaning it is on filter the moter runs but no water at all from pool or filter it has no suction i switch it to all of the other settings even on waster nothing happens
hi i just brought a new intex 26646 pump and set it up but its not pumping any water in to the filter and is showing no psi you got any ideas what it could be ?
hello i have above model and it come with a inside timer. the description is not quite clear . my question is is it possible to program automatically the pump more than ones a day i program my previous pump with an apart timer 4 times a day and and that was very easy . kind regards vince
Hi Vince, I took a look at it again and it does look like there is only one program per day option on it. Sorry about that. To be honest I kind of miss the mechanical hard switch for timer mode or on, with that you could always hook up a more sophisticated timer to it as well as leave the pump continuously on if need be. Cheers, Greg
Got the new filter, installed per your video and instructions. Backwashed, rinsed and turned on filter. Blew a bucket full of sand into thw pool. Bad pump or what happened?
So that's why it's called an O-ring...cause ya say. "Oh" i forgot it hehehe. Like Philly, I dont have a pond and have no need for this BUT still enjoyed learning about the sand filter for some reason LOL...Great tutorial Greg...very professionally done....now I want a fish pond...ugh thanks for that.
Quick couple questions. 1.Can you swim in the pool while the filter is running? How long should I run the filter a day? If I’m running the filter just to clean the pool in a continuous cycle what function do I put it on? Thanks
You can use the pool while running with no issues. The amount of time it runs per day depends on many factors such as temperature, number of people using the pool and size of filter and pump vs. Pool size, etc. Usually 4-6 hours for light pool use and not super hot temperatures or a large filter on a smaller pool. When algae season hits, the dog days of summer, (HOT) pools tend to have the filter on 8-10, even 12 hours, especially with people in it all day. If you have to run the filter 24 hours a day and it can't clean it or keep up, then the filter is dirty or underpowered (too small) for that pool. If
My pool has the 1.25 openings. If using the 1.25 to 1.5 adapters affect the performance of the pump or just cut out openings to 1.5 . I’m going with the 3000 GPH pump and cutting in for skimmer and the led sprayer
when I go to backwash my intex sand filter it comes out of the waste but now wont shut off doesn't matter where I move the handle. How do I fix this or do I need to get new one?
Love your video! Thank you for the easy and straight forward installation lesson! I have a 26 x 52 ft pool. Will these same pumps work? Also, how many bags of the Brightline Glass Filter Media would i need? They come in bags of 40 lbs. Thank you in advance for your help.
Three bags, use only 1/2 of last bag, for about 100 lbs total. You may need a larger unit than this one, this is the biggest intex makes. This one is for 17,000 gallons max. Glad you found the video helpful.😀
Thanks for posting this. I set mine up, but I am having bubbles coming out of the pool jet. I opened the screw cap on the basket and let any air out, there's only a little there. That didn't work. I've taken the cap off entirely, that didn't help. I did a backwash, nope. Any suggestions? Thanks!
Hi my friend happy 4 July I have questions I see the video but you repeated 2 times of the process to insert sand and I see 2 brands of sand so my question is you use regular sand and you add HARSCO METALS & MINERALS Filter Glass - like 10lb around ? Only in the other sand to give extra filter in the process? Or explain clearly please to me or make other video only about this thanks I m new subscriber:) ☺️
Do you have a link for the pool fountain? I actually bought this filter for our pool in January and it is now warm enough to start thinking about getting the pool spring/summer-ready.
WOW! The price went up since last year. Now in 2020 the pump is 462 , and the salt water system is 380. Complete rip off. The how to guide was amazing...
I have a Intex 26651EG 3000 GPH Above Ground Pool Sand Filter Pump with Automatic Timer. I want to know where do I get the sand for it and how many do I need to get and where do I need to go get it. I live in Acton,MA
Great vid, are you finding yourself saving money on chemicals using a larger pump than the original pool came with? I am upgrading from the stock cartridge filter pump that came with my pool so I am hoping to save some money. Please let me know. Thank you.
Hi! I just went through your video and tried to do it exactly as you did, but as soon as I turned the filter on sand started shooting heavily out of the filter. Assuming it’s user error and not a broken part, could this be from not putting in enough sand? From not backwashing/rinsing correctly? Also, as I pulled out the pipe guide, the pipe was in the right place and was in line with the valves, but was easy to jiggle- is it possible the pipe was installed incorrectly? Any suggestions welcome.
Hello how will run the filter Why my filter running only 30 mins and its automatic stop then run again another 30 mins.. can u help me? Thanks in advance 💓
It usually runs 2-3 weeks and a 60-90 second backwash is all you nerd to do. In fact a broken in filter works better at microparticle filtration than a freshly backwashed clean filter. It takes a couple of days to set up again inside and fill up with the necessary debris to get the sand/glass media to strain out the tiny debris for a crystal clear pool. Alternatively you can speed this up by adding a tiny amount of clarifier to the intake line or just add it to the pool. That's all clarifier is, a micro gap filler that boosts filtration performance but too much will reduce your flow and increase the workload on the pump.
I just got this pump a few days ago and today I noticed there was a leak in the same area you pointed At 6:16 , . It doesn’t look cracked it looks like it’s leaking between that leaf catcher thing and the motor and control thing. I was wondering if you’ve had this same problem or did we just get unlucky and got a messed up one
If it's leaking from the clear dome on top, then you are missing or don't have the rubber o ring in correctly, If it has a leak coming from where the motor is factory screwed to the basket then I would exchange it for a new one.
Hello i installed this pump in an over ground pool but i forgot to fill the water to the top before starting it. Will this cause any issues? I cant get my water from cloudy to clear its been over a week!
I have a question we have a 32'x16'x52', summer wave above ground pool can we still use this pump and salt water generator? The pool stays dirty and the pump isn't filtering enough to keep the cleaning holes moving unless it's in back wash and I'm using to much water please help me. Thank you
I have a problem with my intex motor. It works great but due to it being in the sun for three seasons, It has a crack on where you insert the basket container and leaks water. Prices are crazy right now and intex doesn't have the part I need in stock since it's from 2018. However, it seems they have just the motor without the basket container for $104. I'm pretty sure it's the same motor as this one because of how white it is. I'm thinking of purchasing it and reusing the basket parts from my old filter and reusing my dark grey 16in sand tank (similar to the one you were replacing). You think it will work? its pretty much the same product from different years and they are both rated for 3000 gallons.
I have the older gray one and the newer one, well 2 years old now. All the parts are interchangeable. And yes prices..... wow. I paid $189 for the one in the video and it's $650 on Amazon! That pool is gone but I have another I bought a used 24' complete Intex XTR setup for $600, and I didn't know what a deal it was until I checked new prices 😯 Working on leveling the base now that my tractor build is finally done. Hopefully have it together before July. Cheers, Greg
When you do the first backwash it looks like you have the backwash stopper on... my directions say make sure the hose (which isnt included the douchers) is aim away.... can i leave it on? Also do i need to wait until the pool is full and water is in the unit to do the backwash and rinse?
For backwash to work the water level needs to be past the minimum water level that the system operates because it will be draining at a significant rate while backwashing. The best time to backwash is when the pool is overfilled from a rain storm. You can use the backwash to remove the excess water and clean out the filter at the same time. Otherwise you have to fill it a little beyond the minimum water line before starting. Hope this helps.
@@quantumphaser sorry my question was in reference to the backwash and rinsw you did when you first got the unit. I just set mine up and will poor the sand in today. Once i do, do i do the back wash and rinse with nothing hooked up? Is it ok that the backwash cap is on or does it need to be off?
Thanks you all your help, just one last question. I went to pool tech supply store for a water test and they gave me all the necessary chemicals. Their directions say to run the filter for 24 hrs but the pump says do not run for more than 12 hrs.... is it safe to run the filter for 24 hrs? What would you recommend?
@@briNmessier did you ever figure out the answer to your first question in this comment because that's the same thing im wondering. I have it ready to hook up and plan to pour the sand in but do I do the back wash an rinse with nothing hooked up or something different. Hands down tho this is the best video I've every watched with the best detail. Props to quantumphaser!!!
I just bought this filter for my family’s pool because the filter that came with it leaks so much water! Excited for the upgrade. I’m worried about how I’m going to work around not having the valves to cut off the water while I assemble, any tips?
If you're needing to change out the pump and you don't have the plunge valves the way I did it before I installed the valves would be I would tie the 2 hose lines coming out of the pool in a way so that the water level is below the highest point of the hoses little bit of a pain but it does work which is why I installed the valves 😀 Long term they come in very handy.
Without the valves, you will have to tie the hoses in a way where they don't leak out, it can be done, but it is a pain, which is why I put the valves on. You will like it, much better than what comes with the pool. Cheers. Greg
@@quantumphaser After reading this, realize i should purchase the plunger valves BEFORE filling my pool. But I'm not sure what to purchase. I have the Intex 15' round pool, which I believe has 1¼" hoses. Could you possibly point me to the correct valves?
I installed my 3000 GPH pump using your instructions. But it seems like the 2 inlets are not sucking well. Debris floats right by without going in. On the return though it pumps very well, lot's of pressure. The pressure gauge is below green. Any idea what is wrong?
Only thing I can think of is bleeding the motor skimmer basket and the sand filter for possible air in the system. Sometimes I've had to cycle the pump on and off to help purge the air but this should be a one time thing. Once the air is out it should work normally.
Mine is leaking where the pre filter assembly meets the motor. It doesn’t “lock into place” and it’s fine when running on filter but when it stops or is on off, it has a constant drip. Is it supposed to snap in place?
Please tell me you found a way to make it stop!!!???? I have new Intex 16" and have taken pump basket off over and over to try and get a good closed connection to motor but it's not happening!
Yup, no worries, apply Vaseline to the joints and surprise surprise, it allows it to seal tighter. That little bit more of a turn stopped the leak/drip. Read it on a comment somewhere and it worked like a charm. Hope it works…keep me posted…Good luck!
Check your O Ring. It goes under the lid and clear ring, sometimes people try to sandwich the ring between the two pieces but it goes below it. A little silicone grease can help as well.
Question, I just got this filter and set it up. I have a leak on the suction side, between the pump and the strainer basket, when the pump is off. When the pump is on it pulls air into the system at this point. I triple checked, both O rings are installed on the male end of the pump housing, and the lock nut is secure, but not over tightened or cross threaded. I've added Vaseline to the o-rings as well. And ideas? Is there another gaslet besides the 2 O rings on the male end of the pump that I may be missing? Otherwise great video, helped me A LOT! FYI I'm talking about the cvonnection you make @ 5:45 in your video. Thanks again!
@@quantumphaser Hey man, so I got it fixed. Used some strong 100% silicone to glue it all together where the pump meets the skimmer. Obviously now I can't take it apart, but I honestly don't see a reason why I ever would have to. Runs like a champ now. Thanks for your time.
I’m having that same issue. Noticed you said both O rings. I only had the one on the lid. Is there supposed to be one that sits in between the motor and this part before pushing into place?
I accidentally rinsed some of the new sand (backwash) into the Pool. I did the backwash and rinse correctly after, but I can’t get the pump to clean out the water in the Pool after 2 days and about 20hrs of running it. Any ideas on how I can get rid of the fine sand settlement I got in the Pool?
Intex makes an automatic pool vac, it's not expensive, about 60$ on Amazon. It works great at keeping it clean and it picks up sand very well. I've had mine 3 years and it works perfectly.
Mine is leaking where my filter basket connects to the pump. I tried taking the basket out and tightening the nut but it still leaks. Any advice? This is my first pool experience.
It's rated for up to 17,000 gallons. You might need something a bit larger, 1.5 HP and a 20" or larger sand filter. This is the biggest Intex makes at the moment.
@@quantumphaser Thank you for your reply. Your a great guy. I am still ightly confused though. Just a few more questions if you don't mind (I currently have a chlorine setup and I'm trying to switch to salt)... Do I still need chlorine in my pool if I switch to your setup (minus the chlorine generator)? The only reason I'm trying to do this setup is to get away from using chlorine to save money and for it to be healthier. How much salt did you have to add to your pool? Thanks again
@@skyhound4373 Both ways use chlorine to sanitize HOWEVER the salt to chlorine method is FAR LESS chlorine than you would be constantly adding the traditional way. The salt water is also good for your skin, smells fresh and crisp but never a heavy chlorine smell. You also pay for the unit the first season in chlorine and additives savings. I'm never going back. No regrets. Cheers Greg
Hi! I appreciate you so much for making this video! I have a question though. Is the plunger valve on the pool necessary? Can I get by with just the one on the filter? Asking because I ordered one after seeing your video. Then, after watching it again, I caught the part that you had one the pool too. 😀 looking forward to your reply!
