Given Rafe exposes his back by doing spin attacks and telegraphs like an amateur (which I know is necessary for gameplay), he can't really judge Nathan.
@@Aziraal-Starhammer I really struggle to see how Rafe telegraphs. He moves so goddamn fast in this fight, in fact it can be pitted to real life HEMA fighters as well as other solid Duel scenes like Haddock in Tintin or Rob Roy. The thing is, EVERY fighter telegraphs with most of their moves, it all depends on how quickly you emit that said attack. In Rafe’s case, he’s like lightning. So I really don’t see how he telegraphs like an amateur when he fights similarly to HEMA fighters.
@@smoker5989 Nadine is a pretty big threat in the game though, she literally kicked everyone's ass until she decided she didn't want to get herself killed for a madman. even if her character is as one dimensional as it gets, she's a pretty cool badass
Well, he's not wrong. Nate's form is terrible, he punches more then he tries to stab, he has no idea how to stand or walk with a sword and he leaves himself open a number of times. Just because he's able to defend himself and beat Rafe doesn't mean he can fence for shit.
“You wanna hear insane? Nathan Drake, raced a madman and his entire army, to the steps of Shambala.” Uncharted 2 “Nathan Drake, found the lost city in the middle of the Rub Al Kehli desert.” Uncharted 3 “Nathan Drake, discovered the fable El Dorado.” Uncharted “Nathan Drake, is a legend.” Uncharted 4
I have sacrificed everything to find Avery. And I’m not gonna let a couple of *two-bit thieves...!* A *senile con man...!* And a *washed-up journalist take that away from me!* *Enough!*
@@AdamTaurus_SonOfSparda Rafe: “I have sacrificed everything to find everything to find Avery, and I’m not going to let some two bit thieves, a senile con man, and a washed up journalist take this away from me!”
There’s something I noticed about their stances. Nathan is in a defensive stance as his left foot is forward, showing that he’s defending himself, whereas Rafe is in an offensive stance with his right foot forward, hinting of his education in fencing as well as wanting to kill his foe.
Similiar to when he's holding back in the Charlie Cutter fight. His boxing stance changes to something more defensive opting to throw more counter attacks and dodges
Actually in fencing, traditional and in any style really, you ALWAYS have your sword arm forward. Nate was using a stance made for either duel wielding with a dagger in the left hand or a buckler/shield. So in a sense Rafe was right, Nate can't fence for shit but he's a formidable swordsman.
@@somethindarkerwell he didn't want to kill Rafe, you see when he stuns Rafe he has many chances to stab him but chooses to punch him instead, whereas Rafe would just impale him any chance he gets. So maybe that justifies his sword position?
That bit when Nate grabs the sword and then the main theme plays is amazing. So is the bit when he's on the ground and Sam passes him the sword and Rafe talks about how he's had everything on a goddam silver platter
It is the most tedious and soulless boss fight I have ever played and not in harmony with the playibility of the game. The game should have ended with a hard core shootout instead of this tedious and clunky fencing
this fight took me over an hour on crushing, and the time I finally beat it, I got the trophy for the perfect swordplay. that’s what this fight took on crushing, flawless swordplay. felt like dark souls.
8:05 watch in slo-mo to see Rafe's painful demise as the treasure falls on his head effectively breaking his entire spine before crushing him completely.
You what this reminds of killing makarov in mw3 where captain price did the same thing except where he used the wire around his neck straggle him before he was left dangling
Rafe was more badass then any Villain in Uncharted. For me even Lazarevic is only the sec. Place. But Rafe oh man, He was Inteligent and Powerful. His Madness in his Eyes on this Scene just perfect.
He's also not some super villain from the other side of the world with blood of thousands of people on his hands, but a Nate's former friend with rich parents who wants to prove to himself that he's worthy of what he has.
The fact that this sword fight against Rafe combines aspects of both HEMA and Fencing just makes it better (even tho Rafe shouldn’t do spinning attacks as he’s just asking to get stabbed in the back by doing so)
@@theshermantanker7043 Telegraphed to hell? LOL, how nitpicky. Every fighting move is telegraphed for every single fighter. It all depends on how quickly you emit that said attack. In Rafe’s case, he was like lightning. You clearly don’t understand this stuff.
Explorer Rafe: toddler using a sword Light Rafe: basic sword user Moderate Rafe: skilled swordsman Hard Rafe (sus): swordmaster Crushing Rafe: obi wan Kenobi.
This game is amazing, I just wished that when you do a perfect parry he would kinda compliment you in a sarcastic way like “not bad, but not great” or something like that, but other than that great game
Rafe actually does the same moves in every difficulty, so if u practice on the easier difficulties u can basically do this, not saying it’s easy because it’s not, but it definitely makes it easier
no, i have seen him one move EXCLUSIVELY on crushing. i've only seen him do it twice. basically he ducks under your sword then starts slicing from the left, then attacks from the right but in one movement. it's hard to explain in speech but it's really hard to counter, since it looks like a left block but it's a right block. it's not that twirly top spinning move he does really quickly, it's like a variation of it, but slower, and he does it in a different pattern.
Its just way faster on crushing, way more amped up. More fun that way, and once you actually beat him its worth it. Since the sexy boi kills you in one hit.
@@louis_glock7075 it triggers if you cut him off when he says ''you know how to sword fight?'' since then i have gotten better at countering the move and it feels so satisfying when i do.
it took me years to find out that you had to press circle when against talbot, bc I always played on crushing, doesn't make the fight any harder, it just makes me a dumbass
1: Nathan Drake discovered the fabled El Dorado. 2: Nathan Drake raced a madman and his entire army to the steps of Shambalha! 3: Nathan Drake found the lost city in the middle of the Rub’ al Khali desert!
The protagonist and villain, sword fighting with SAME weapons that killed the former legends, as they rot in the now burning pirate ship along with millons worth of treasure they've been after for the entire game. All while the protagonist's long lost older brother, trampled by ship debris, watches from the floor. Holy fuck💀💀
I just realized that the buildup to this boss fight is a reference to Uncharted 1, with it taking place on a ship and a thief introducing someone to something they're not used to doing, like Elena shooting a gun or Nathan swordfighting.
Rafe is obsessed with finding Avery's treasure, because he wants to prove that he's better than Nate. I mean, he's been too focused on a pirate treasure, that he missed out on all the other opportunities that were out there for Nate to discover; El Dorado, Shambala, Iram of the Pillars, etc.
Right? Instantly. Stupid game being really unrealistic.. i gotta put this in the bad game category, because it is, in fact. A bad game.. its super unrealistic.
@@soaplewdsmatter because it's not meant to be taken seriously. also, that's the game's technical issues. in that fight burning wood falls since it's a mechanic of the game.
I remember seeing a post where someone described Nate Sam and Rafe as Jesus and the 2 thieves Rafe representing the thief who mocked Jesus Sam representing the thief who accepted his punishment and wanted to join Jesus in Paradise And Nate representing Jesus with his struggle too find the treasure, and keep his family intact. I don’t remember who exactly I saw post it because it was years ago, but they went way more in depth, and I wish I could remember more of what they said.
7:22 You’d think they would’ve changed that line if you did this perfectly. That one added touch would’ve been great. All the more like this game only gives you the illusion of choice. 🙄
D & K Thank you! While I’m bummed out that we’ll never see Nate as well, I’m glad the writers gave his story a satisfying conclusion with him being happy with Elena and his daughter :)
The entire fight including the entire game didn't feel like an average adventure and drama inducing video game. It felt like a literal movie all the way through
@@Omega14343 Probably, but it would be interesting and a nice atention to detail: A) takes damage = ´´You cant fence for shit`` B) no damage = ´´You really can fence``
@@gatopreto-xq4dd I'm guessing it's just that Rafe doesn't actually wanna admit that Nathan's better than him in everything (even down to the hair) so he belittles him when he has the chance. It's just a Rafe thing to do.
Something that bothered me about Uncharted 4 was Nadine. No, I'm not being sexist because if I was I'd also have a problem with Elena and Chloe, which I don't. But something about a small framed woman like Nadine dogwalking a hunk like Nate like it's no problem gets under my skin in a way I can't describe.
I still play this game just because it has an amazing plot and story and gameplay is fun played it on every difficulty regularly play it with crushing cus it’s just a fun game never get bored of it ngl
This is why I usually go back every couple years to replay these (usually 2-4 I like one but 2 really touched up the gameplay and it’s hard to go back to it for me ) these are just fun games to me and playing through the set pieces and stories again are like rewatching an old favorite tv show. With 4 though I think what I like most about the story is there’s no mythical elements to the enemies. I like it in 1-3 don’t get me wrong but seeing Drake grow through this game and realizing he could have turned out like rafe and learning the pirates story really gave a human element to conclude his story. I loved lost legacy with Chloe but honestly if they do a 5 I really hope the team that does leaves drakes story alone. Either focus on a new character or a story with Chloe Sam or someone with Drake not involved cause this game just felt like a perfect conclusion to me then again I would play it regardless just not asking for it. Also maybe I just don’t see it the praise a lot online but rafe is a very underrated character in my opinion. Love him in this game.
I would have liked to see Rafe be able to beat Nadine in a fight on the docks before this fight. Since she seems nearly invincible, it would have been cool to see that he was an even better martial artist than her (but rarely show it since he always has guards to do his dirty work).
They couldn't make Nadine look weak so they didn't made a fight i think that's because Neil Druckmann is a feminist and Lost Legacy was writed by another person so that's why Nadine get her ass kicked by Asav
To put it simply, rust forms when enough oxygen and water combine and it corrodes the steel, but there was no water for the swords to come in contact with.
This fight so realistic and good animated. This is Sony. This is realistic. I love halo but I prefer Playstation. This is real innovation and Immersion
STILL one of the best last boss fights. Uncharted broke the mold on last boss fights. Part one was a chase and a pretty brief fight. Part 2 was the most traditional last boss fight of the series, but I hated it because he was so overpowered. Part 3 was another brief fight broken up with story. This one was just perfect, in my opinion. Rafe was an excellent villain. I miss this series.
The Nadine fights are non canon, It's pretty obvious Nathan was nerfed hard in that fight so naughty dog can please feminazi's, I think you'd love to watch this video ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE--gbAjEnEako.html
Actually, they both can't fence for shit. They're using way too much arm and tiring themselves out entirely too fast. The point is quick successive strikes during an opening. It's all in the wrist, not muscle.
