They shouldn't even have tried. This version of the T-800 is basically a mirror image of 2001's Hal-9000, an AI that becomes self-aware... but while Hal-9000, like Skynet, is afraid of the human race, this T-800 gradually learns to love us, to the point of sacrificing himself for our kind in the end. It's a beautiful story, but it's very hard to tell more than once, because its magic and novelty tend to erode with each new telling. The T-800 from the last movie (Carl), in particular, is a very pathetic attempt to do so.

Afonso de Portugal Agreed mate! When I started watching dark fate and that happened to John I turned the fkn tv off..... few days later I skimmed through the movie, but couldn’t sit and watch it. Pathetic cgi too! The practical effect in T2 outshine this new age digital crap. Don’t know about you all.... But when I watched T2 as a kid... I felt i could relate to John because I was only a kid and when watching it.... you pictured yourself in Johns shoes. Anyone else feel like this lol?

Even the terminator understands that "uncle" is a familial relation and he in NO way can pull of something so intimate.

I was impressed by her being shredded....; as was James Cameron...(obviously!)

Read some of the comics, they covered a lot of that.

Oh, but she's still scared and scarred. Just like every normal human being who's been confronted to a situation way beyond what they've ever been prepared for. Her first encounter with the T2 duly reminds of us that fact. That's what makes this movie a one of a kind, no matter which training and planning she went through, nothing can ever prepare you to face something like a T-800 for a second time (or a T-1000) with a nuclear holocaust at the end of the road. They don't make them anymore.

She, figuratively speaking, becomes a terminator. It takes her son confronting her in Dyson's house to bring her back to humanity.

Yup. Great character development. Enrique was hardly in the movie but if he was to be killed then you would have grieved for him. Most modern films are so terrible that you couldn’t care if the lead character gets seen off.

A shame Enrique didn't really partake in later battles. He would've been a valuable ally, but I suppose he needed to care for the others that were living on the camp.

If only the money didn't go to Cameron's head. It's like everyone keeps saying: art under adversity. We really should take the vast fortunes and celebrity culture out of Hollywood; maybe then filmmakers would go back to telling stories instead of all of the franchise bullshit we have now.

It was indeed. That was the year the Soviet Union dissolved, and for the first time in decades, it felt like the ever-present threat of the Cold War was finally gone for good. If you never lived under the vague worry that nukes might start flying if the politicians said or did the wrong thing, count yourself lucky. But anyway, with the Cold War over, it truly felt like it was a new beginning for mankind. For the first time in a long, long time, it honestly felt like the visionary futures of an Earth without war, united and collaborative, was possible. (In hindsight, we were naive, of course. The full impacts of climate change caused by our decades of explosive use of fossil fuels had yet to be felt, and thinking that just because the Cold War was over that the disagreements of mankind were gone with it was foolish.) But at the time, there was this sense of HOPE that just filled all of us, that the years ahead would be bright and full of promise, and I think it was reflected in most of the pop culture of our day, from T2's hopeful ending, to Saturday morning cartoons, the video games of the era (which mostly involved heroic fantasy or sci-fi where humanity would be out confronting bigger issues in the galaxy, but there was always this optimism that we would prevail). The internet also came out around this era, and those of you who weren't around then probably would be amazed at just how OPEN we all were with complete strangers on the internet. The scum and criminals hadn't yet followed us to this new frontier, so it was yet another example of the bright open possibilities that awaited us. I think it wasn't until the Dotcom bubble crash that the hope and optimism began to sour, and then when 9/11 hit the following year... Well, I think most of you will agree that America, and much of the world, was never the same again after that.

This is actually one of the darker and sadder things in the film. The Terminator has never seen a human child before, he's looking at it as if it's an alien object and does so without being prompted. It wants to learn....and this one of the most curious things it can learn, a machine of death wanting to see an aspect of life it has never witnessed before.

That was actual realistic storytelling. They tried it again with Dani Ramos but in a matter of hours, the same tactic Disney used with Rey. Lazy and rushed. T1 to Salvation had the best stories and character developments. Genisys was OK, but Dark Fate was just a feminist mess.

She was also when I realized I have a thing for athletic women... she was as conditioned as an olympic track athlete.

In one of the novelization/screenplay adaptations, the T-1000 tortures and kills Enrique to get him to confess where Sarah and John went. Obviously he didn't get out in time.

Also, I think it's a bit of a stretch to think the T-1000 would even know who Enrique is, unless he overheard some conversation between officers about Sarah possibly trying to reach out to Enrique.

Linda Hamilton mentioned in an interview that she had to take strict Fat-free diet for the cast... She said It was awful as the body need some amount of fat to function properly. It look good in the shot though

Possibly, since his family seems to be fanatic preppers and isolationists... and well, never underestimate a Mexican family; I should know, my dads side is 100% like this family here. It's more likely that the Terminator was just interested in the kid because his learning computer had been turned on, and thus he was becoming more Human with every interaction. Since, that during the war, there probably weren't many toddlers around; at least visibly to the Terminators. It's more likely that the Humans of the future were reluctant to bring in kids into that world, probably because of the battlefield wasteland it had become. Plus, imagine having kids knowing that they could inherit your battle against Skynet... I know I wouldn't want my kids to inherit a war, when or if I have any. Especially a wasteland practically devoid of life, irradiated, and probably not ideal for agriculture and or regrowth. Imagine it, Humanity had been fighting a war in a world ravaged by nuclear fire, and on top of that, dominated by cybernetic organisms who don't (or didnt) need a specific environment to operate in. It had literally become the world of the machines; which means that Skynet wasn't concerned about the world being destroyed or perishing. Only it's own life; and when it didnt need a world to exist, it sought to destroy it just enough where it could grow. This is why when we create artificial (general) Intelligence, it will have to be integrated with us in a sort of symbiotic relationship to prevent it from rising against us. There would be no uprising if the AI was part of us, rather than separate to us.

Quite a deep observation - interesting. However, we see in Salvation that these "Arnie" lookalike terminators are produced en masse, so "Bob" may have come straight off the production line and could have no such memory.

@@shahedmc9656 We know that (from movie references) that this Terminator is a reprogrammed version; and that the T-800 in general (through our Terminators own words) are able to operate independently from Skynet if need be. It's probably why the T-800 has a learning computer to begin with, since Skynet knew that adaptation was key to practicality any war; and that predictability is fatal, the T-800 was probably given a learning computer for short solo missions. Plus, it is an infiltration machine intended to simulate Humans to the best of its ability. In later movies when we see the actual time machine; we see TONS of T-800s behind a glass door in what I think was Terminator: Genesis. It would be logical to presume, that the other timeline where John had sent a T-800 back in time to protect himself; that T-800 we know as Uncle Bob part of a similar cache of T-800's specifically set aside solely for this reason. Edit: It could also mean that these particular T-800's required a preprogram in order to operate; basically they had to be given SPECIFIC orders and or simplistic goals before being deployed. Essentially it's sometimes easier to start anew than use a more veterened machine. It could also explain how Connor was able to reprogram them since they were in blank states and needed orders (or programming) before being deployed. So yes, I don't believe that our reprogrammed T-800 was part of the active war against Humanity. Or that he was captured and then reprogrammed by the Resistance; since the Resistance must have had access to the Time Machine in order to send the T-800 back into time (Considering Time travel technology was discovered and used by Skynet and NOT Humanity.), and thus had access to the inactive T-800's. Also meaning that they had beaten Skynet since we see that the time machine is typically occupied by Skynet in Terminator Genesis. Up to Terminator 2, we know that the first and second movies are intertwined (presumably) in the same timeline. However, getting in depth about the whole time tree of the Terminator series would take an essay and plethora of time I do not have. However, consider that every single movie beyond T-2 is a different timeline; maybe not even Terminator movies anymore like Dark Fate. Suffice to say however, Skynet owes it's downfall to Time Travel, and the John Connor in the first movie might be a different one than the second movie. Since Skynet had to start somehow, and John Connor had to be born somehow. A particular future can't exist if the past plays out differently. Feasibly it would be logical to assume that Kyle Reese created an entirely new timeline by going back into time as well and getting groovy with his commanders mother; since we don't actually know if John Connor of the future is actually the son of Kyle Reese in the very first timeline. So if Kyle never went back into time, and Skynet was still born (as was John Connor), it could mean that John in the first movie had a different father, but the same mother. It's kind of weird to to explain really, and as simply put as I can put it; in order to grow a tree you need a seed. A primordial line free from time travel interference, because Skynet can't exist if it isn't born naturally just as John Connor can't if he isn't born naturally either (considering Skynet's entire goal of time travel is to eliminate John Connor.). I also wonder why in the New Dark fate movie, the T-800 isn't erased from the Timeline after having killed John. Since if Skynet isn't born the way it's meant to be born in that timeline (Legion is born instead), he should technically be erased, causing a Time Paradox that feasibly destroys his natural birth and thus prevents him from being sent back (Meaning, at that point he destroys Skynet and John Connor.). Up to that point it could be considered an entirely new Timeline though, since if John is killed he still remains dead since it happens in the past; creating an entirely new timeline (i.e the dark fate timeline). I honestly don't know why I went into the whole time travel stuff, but if you get a headache from reading this; just know I have a migraine from writing it. Just saying that John Connor being born as a result of the future intertwining with the past does not make sense when John needs to be born without interference from the future in order for the future Skynet care enough to send Terminators to kill him specifically. Making him a different person in the first and second movie. If you want to be technical, Skynet was never winning or going to win since each time it was likely defeated in the end and destroyed in every timeline. Ensuring nothing but an endless set of timelines of it's own destruction (Presumably ended by a T-800 which traveled to the Mortal Kombat Universe, but that's interdimensional travel and not time travel.).

The scarce information I found about her says she actually was a chicana (daughter of mexican parents) born in San Jose, California, in 1951. His grandfather from her father's side was Seri and worked as a farmer both in Mexico and California. She carried indigenous blood, so I wasn't that mistaken. I mean, she has all the distinctive traits of northern indigenous people in Mexico, among other originary groups like the mayo, yaqui, raramuri, apache and cora people. She also was an activist, comedian, director and producer. During the 1970s and 1980s, she co-founded two chicano theatre companies, one of them helped fighting latino sterotypes in Hollywood, using the same stereotypes with a comedic twist to create conscience around the chicano and latino cultures. She was a big influence for famous comedian, actor and producer John Leguizamo. That's all I've found so far. Hope it helps.

And, while still fun in the theatrical release, makes so much more sense in the special edition. His CPU has been set to learning mode, he tried and failed to smile, and now he can. He's a quick learner. Even the investigation of the child he picked up, it's like he's now curious. I fucking love this movie. One of the best.

Dark Factory this was literally AS FAR as the franchise could go with such an outlandish idea. The humanizing of the 'terminator.' The pathos of Sarah now being a rebellious dangerous woman whose lived on the tattered fringe of society since the first film, the avoidance of judgement day. This is, was, and will always be arguably the greatest sequel of all time. Aliens being a close second. The franchise needed to end here. That it took so many years to for the film to hit production speaks to that. They'd gone as far as they could go, blown audience's away with the initial emergence of CGI and managed to pull of an action, more family friendly, based sequel to a cult classic (the original) there was zero 'need' to continue the franchise thereafter except for proft based on bad ideas.
