My dad and I loved this movie. True story: he retired when I was 3 (he was almost 60), so my mom could finally start her career. He had no idea of what to do with a little girl, so he took me everywhere, including the track, casinos (legal and illegal), boxing matches, and his bookie's house. So I learned math by gambling. I also learned how to roll cigarettes, blow smoke rings, shotgun a beer (I got soda), play poker, minor surgical procedures, and how to drive a car (I was 8 years old). It was fantastic! We had so much fun!

@@0okamino my dad had no idea what to do with a little kid. The man spent 25 years in the army, then starting a family, then a business, so he just treated me like one of his buddies. There were no kid places to go, no IMDB to get info on upcoming movies (taking a 4 year old to see "Caligula" was a poor choice!), cable TV barely existed, and the track was a few blocks away, so it just made sense to him to go there. My dad did seem to enjoy doing weird stuff well into his 80's though. He stopped driving right around when I got my driver's license, so I'd chauffeur him around and he liked dragging me to Hooters. There is nothing to prepare you when your 80-something dad, who needs a wheelchair, is acting like he's Flo Rida in a Hooters, making it rain. Then imagine having to explain to your mother why there is a group of 7 Hooters waitresses, in uniform, at a Catholic church for her husband's funeral. That actually was pretty damn funny. Well played, Pops!

Right after John Candy passed away, somebody (sorry I can't remember right now) did a tribute to him and the very last shot of the show was the last shot of him in this movie of him waving goodbye to Tia. Every time I see that shot I get a little misty-eyed. RIP Mr. Candy.

He looked remarkably like my wonderful step dad, as a younger man, in Planes, Trains, and Automobiles. The last scene where he's looking up and smiling at Steve Martin and his wife, would make me squawl like a baby, every time. I couldn't watch that final scene for about 15 years after my parents died about 6 months apart. I always saw John Candy as that crazy uncle the kids couldn't wait to see at holidays. I had a really unusual uncle like the characters John played....a little like Cousin Eddy in the Vacation Movies 😏. My dad even came from the area of the country that his movies tended to have him be from. I could really relate to his presentations of characters. 👍

To me, this is John Candy's most iconic and loveable movie role...the one that the most people think of when they think of him. I think it is also Macaulay Culkin's most adorable role, though Home Alone is of course more iconic. And I even think that this is John Hughes' best film overall...though again, I think Breakfast Club is more iconic. This film and Candy's role, as well as Culkin's, are just so timeless, and never really lose their sparkle and the things that keep them special...while other roles and films for all these folks have all aged much much more than this one. Anyway, that is what I think. ✌😎

what I find interesting about Uncle Buck is that the Titular Character is portrayed as an irresponsible Black Sheep of his Family because of the way he Earns his Money and operates on his own Schedule and he's a Guy who is Resisting the Traditional Nuclear Family Structure that we're all familiar with. But He's a Functioning Adult who Maintains his own Apartment pays his Bills and Has a Girlfriend. He doesn't sound like such a Screw Up to Me. but this was the Late 80s and the standards have changed quite a bit. of course in order to Maintain That Giant house in some Unnamed Chicago Suburb Both of the Parents must be paid extremely well so their Standards are very High.
