I think both Malcom X and MLK would be ashamed to see where we are right now. What I find most ironic, is that the BET that helped perpetuate this self-slavery mindset, has their watermark on this vid, which is from a cartoon that aims to do the opposite.

But what did the grandad say? "You were black yesterday, today, and you will still be black tomorrow. So maybe you will actually learn to like it." At the end of the day we all are who we are and we can't change it. What we can change is our outlook and attitude.

@@Gusta3691 my point is ruckus and all characters represent multitude of archetypes in the black community. Huey the revolutionary and his best friend from Chicago represent the social activism and hoteps. Riley represents urban youth. Grandad represents the older generation and a vanguard of his era despite him having no involvement. Tom Dubois and Ruckus are very similar characters but they choose to go about their disdain for blackness in a different way. Tom believes he can be successful enough to evade racism and marrying a white woman will absolve him of racism. Ruckus on the other hand rejects his blackness entirely and works against anything black. When he is confronted with the undeniable truth of him being black he cannot help but to think of himself as a lesser being. He believes because he is black he is incapable of doing anything right. He believe he must become a lumpen through and through out of spite of him being black. In this regard he is also partially similar to Riley

I learned from someone that one of the biggest problems black folks face, is a destroyed sense of self-worth, and this highlights that to me. Here Ruckus lost his self-worth and decided he had to live like it, be jobless and drink liquor, etc, just like some black folks really do. When he thinks he's white, he feels valuable and like what he does matters. The others don't think that way, they know they are valuable and that what they do is meaningful, regardless of skin color or culture. This is real life, and it's awful and very complicated, and this show masterfully illustrates it and actually manages you laugh as you learn. It's incredible!
