Unclogging And Moving Beaver Rack Back Into Place

I do not encourage anyone to enter culverts, unclog anything, or enter flooded areas as it can easily become deadly without the proper training
I unclog drains for fun in my spare time (I have been trained in culvert inspections for years with private co.) and I am osha trained.
Exploring anything abandoned can be dangerous or deadly without experience. I don't encourage anyone to enter any abandoned structures. Not only is safety a concern, but often times its illegal, and when possible I seek out permission from the owner or local police. I simply go to document its history before it's gone forever and I leave things the way I find them. I only take pictures and only leave footprints. I assume all the risks and responsibility before doing this. Please don't attempt to do this on your own. There could be nails, asbestos, falling concrete, soft floors, animals, or other hazards. Thanks for watching.

The reason that the beavers move so quickly to block it was that beavers operate based off of sound. Their instinct is to try and stop the sound of running water so when they start to hear running water in their pond/lake they go into panic mode and try to stop the sound by any means necessary. There is a national park in Quebec where they had a huge beaver problem and they were able to manage their beaver population by using water resistance radios to play the sound of running water (loudly) in the areas of the lake where the park didn't care about a dam being built and they discovered that when they did that the beaver would focus all of their efforts on the radio spots and not on the other areas of the lake.

Here in the UK we're heading for a drought also. Unfortunately the people in charge of water usage haven't acted soon enough and there's still people filling up temporary swimming pools. It would be nice to have some light rain followed by a good thunderstorm, then the ground will hold some water. Stay safe and hydrated. 😃👍

I wonder if Beavers don't actually mind the sound of rushing water, and if instead it triggers the damming response because rushing water typically means a spot easy to dam and control the water flow, or a failure in a dam that needs immediate repair.

@jasonreed7522
@jasonreed7522 2 года назад
Its less about people being affect and more about our forrests not being particularly drought tollerant, and if they dry out too much they could become a wildfire risk. Normally we get so much rain that everything is throughly soaked and in some stage of rotting/punkyness within a year of falling on the ground that wildfires basically never start. (Note that in the early spring we do have burn bans to cover the period between snow melting and plants properly greening and hydrating because that is a period of risk for wildfires / grass fires) Although this insane heat wave just sucks for everyone in involved, 91F plus 80-90% humidity= 100+ feels like temps of death. (I much prefer subzero temps to litteral hell)

I remember when this beaver rack was new and fresh, how much lower the downstream water level was back then, and how much faster the water passed through that rack. Is the downstream water level something that should be remediated, or is it supposed to be as high as it is now? Edit: I wrote the first part of this comment before this video finished, so I did not take into account that the upstream water level is very low now and that I probably do not remember the old water levels correctly. I guess the upstream water was much higher, causing the level difference I seem to remember.
@jasonreed7522
@jasonreed7522 2 года назад
Probably both, but down stream is a beaver dam that isn't considered to be hurting anything for now so its best left alone. (Beavers are good for the environment, until they take out a road which is objectively bad for the environment and expensive for us to replace) Durring this drought the beaver dams are helping to retain water which helps the plants better endure the dry spell. (California and Western states sometimes release beavers expressly for this reason as beaver ponds make an ear more resilient against drought and wildfires)
