Earlier this week I finally got the spyderco pm2 "crucarta" or cruwear steel and micarta scales....oh boy lol it is beautiful, not cheap but well worth it if its in the budget

Tried to look for a second, new Broken Skull...sad theyre so far gone. 60$ for XHP and that years back was insane! I got AD-15 first day CS version came out- then Voyager, Lawman, Golden Eye, Code 4- great folders for what they are! I still want and never got the Italian factory Storm Cloud!

$42 is a GREAT price for this! Love D2! I have a D2 CRKT CEO for suit carry, but you could get away with this one also, it is a beefier blade than the CEO!
Just got it and it is cool for 29 bucks, but it is one of the dullest knives I have EVER gotten, D2 will not be easy to sharpen, but it will stay sharp once I get it there
I'm really rooting for Gerber. The only two knives that I've bought from them that I've actually kept and carried is the Empower and the Fastball (Wharncliffe). The Fastball had abysmal quality control. A horribly uneven grind and the detent was so hard I couldn't even open the knife with the flipper at all. Since I caught it on clearance at Dick's sporting goods I couldn't return it so I just had to fix everything. I've come to really like it and I'm thinking about getting a custom one but I'm worried about the quality control of a new one. The empower has been a great night but just thick as hell behind the edge and not suited for any real slicy jobs. I fully agree with the fact that many of their designs are just not interested in, and the ones I am interested in are of the cheapest materials. There is no reason anybody should be using 7cr on their knives if they want to be a part of the enthusiast community, or want their knives used by professionals in jobs where they have to count on their tools. Even if they use good quality steels in the knives that they mean to be used in a professional manner, it lowers my faith in a company's products as a whole when I see them making choices of cheapness over quality on many of their other knives. I understand all knives are built to a price but a $30 7cr knife is bullsh.
Dang, I felt that way about my warranty empower, the auto broke and the replacement I was sent had a literal twist in the cutting edge. Took quite a bit of material to even it out.
Looks interesting. I have the Gerber Sedulo and it has a killer action that comparable to my Benchmades. I wish Gerber success. Always like seeing an American company succeed.
I really like Gerber for their unique designs. Most things they made are a miss, but the Asada, flat iron, and this Affinity in D2 are nice, and they have gerber's warranty, which I can say they honor because they sent me a new Asada when mine had blade play out of the box
Great review! One correction is the 7cr version is actually aluminum on the front scale, not stainless steel. Otherwise completely agree. Gerber needs to do more of this. Hope all is well and you and yours are safe while road tripping!

Definitely a different pocket knife. If you get the chance I'd like to see a review of the new ka bar John ek commando knives. I know you broke a couple back in the day when reviewing one of the Bowie knives but would like to see if they are made better with the new designs now
Gerber needs to pull all of their stuff out of china and make it in house. If this was USA made I’d be buying one but the fact that it’s made from chinesium and not what they say it’s made from is a deal breaker for me
China makes things according to the company's specs that orders the product. It is Gerber's fault that their Chinese knives are crap. There are so many other knives made in China that have absolute perfect fit and finish. But even then they're going to have to do more than that. Their USA knives have abysmal quality control. I've heard it from four different people now, and I experienced myself that the Gerber fastball had absolute trash QC. Mine had such an uneven grind you could measure the difference on a ruler and the detent was so stiff it could not be opened at all by The flipper tab.
I just recently got the gerber affinity as well, and so far am really loving it. I also like that it's in Do, and a fairly slim carry. For some reason the one I got did not come with the movable thumb studs. Not sure if it was just an error or another version sold in canada. But either way still a great knife.
Never had Gerber, wanted something cheaper and different to kick around, everyone was 50$ that had in stock except DLT 40$ (AND I had DLT reward dollar 20 plus). So It came in mail today, all of sudden Blade HQ has on sale 20$ This shit happens to me too much! But yea the liner arm is tough, not chamfered/beveled nicely and thin piece digs into your thumb hard. Action is what I expect for PB, I feel like D2 blade is NOT a hollow grind, I dunno, feels like that section changes width all way down like a flat would? Clips fine, grind FAT w bigger bevel, very uneven, BTE factory varies from .0270 - .0350". Overall she's OK, we're just spoiled now in this low price range w Sencut, Civivi, CJRB, Artisan, Kubey, Ganzo, Harnds, QSP, Kizer to name few that offer more in 50$ n under models. EDIT: D shaped pivot on front great, but then the back?! Need proprietary tool, hopefully you mention in next few minutes lol
I'm verrry interested in this design. What have you heard about the aluminium version? I hear it's 3.3oz but is the aluminium side thicc enough? Pls investigate!
Gerber and buck make some of the most useless pocket clips, too wide too shallow. However, bless them for bringing a lot of their creation home. This one misses the gotta have button.
Now that you are spending some time in Florida what would your opinion on blade steel for this area? Still trying to find that bushcraft/camp knife hybrid. Any Suggestions?
Another half decent idea undone by low qual materials and poor QC. Such a shame… I also had to ship back my 112 slim for the thumb stud flying across the room into nowhere and my 112 pro TRX has unacceptable blade play/noise for Buck and the centering is waay off. Good video keep it up God bless!!
Bummer. I love the blade shape & I've been dreaming about a 110 drop point in the traditional frame size, with an aluminum frame & micarta/G10, delete the thumstud, keep the pocketclip. Regular old use and abuse 420. For an everyday work knife. Seems like it'd be a big seller and very accessible/profitable at around $75
@@hunterglaspell Everyone has an opinion, copper in my mind is a niche material for knives don’t drop it. I couldn’t have that material in my rotation for that reason, I use my knives and they take a good beating. Micarta or g-10 are my go to. As for D-2 everyone’s environment Is different, D-2 is a semi stainless steel and will not last in high humidity without constant care. Not to mention I regularly salt fish so it would get eaten. Like I said half decent idea I wish it was executed in a different manner because I like the design.
The amount of people one youtuber can get to buy/support MADE IN COMMUNIST CHINA products is amazing. With the vast amount of other options why do people go with made in China? Serious question, no hate intended. I'm not telling people not to buy from China, do as you please. Just curious as to why you would support such a country when you don't have to? Yes some products you have to buy from China, virtually all electronics, but knives are NOT one of them.
