I'm only 2 minutes in and THANK YOU. You can find beginner content out there on some of the biggest games, but just finding a newb-friendly primer on this one has been rough.

Dude, this is straight up the most useful tutorial on anything that I’ve ever watched! I’m not a complete noob as I’ve played a couple hundred hours of Tekken in my life (starting at Tekken 3) but I could never really get into these anime 2d fighters as they just seem too overwhelming with all the different game systems, gauges and long complicated combos. This video has really helped me make sense of it all and see that underneath all the fancy fluff it’s really just the same fundamentals. Thanks!
@igoesrawrr
@igoesrawrr 6 месяцев назад
Thank you!! Yeah, I felt the same when it came to trying to utilize all of the crazy mechanics immediately. You really don’t have to touch them until you get competent at what really matters, which is the fundamentals. Now that I have got a good chunk under control, I am moving on to the more advanced stuff. Only difference is it’s not overwhelming anymore since it’s all I have to focus on now. I’ll be making a video about how to use the GRD/chain shift mechanic at an extremely basic level soon!

ngl, I've heard "bread and butter combo" so much for so long and really never knew wtf they meant. I just thought it was supposed to a good combo and never understood that it needed to be RELIABLE for *ME*!!!

Noob is never derogatory. Everyone is a noob at the beginning. As long as you learn, you will stop being a noob and become intermediate, anyway. So do learn, because if you don't, you will also stop being a noob, but you will become a scrub. And that word of course is properly dereogatory.
@polarnyne
@polarnyne 5 месяцев назад
lol, back in the 2000s newbie was the word used to describe novices, and those who won't improve and start complaining about everything would be labeled as noobs. Times surely changes, huh.

I just found this interesting I'm not really a beginner but I did start 3 months ago but now I have 360+ hours and I just play Seth. He's right about what ever character speaks to you go for. At first I came from Street fighter and played Shotos so I tried to play Linne and while she was kinda fun and easy to play I didn't get that much satisfaction and always saw my self hovering Seth but scared to learn. I took the time and effort and when I thought it was impossible to learn after just labbing and asking uni discord in the Seth section for advice I can confidently say.. No matter how difficult a character is for you to learn do not give up. Set small goals even breaking down your bnbs and its gonna take time if you wanna play people like Yuzuriha, Seth, Vatista, Carmine. Those might take way longer to learn but well worth it. Even if you decide to choose any others you will need to spend a significant amount of time in the lab to do any bnbs consistently. I really hope we get a surge of new players. this game is so good.

One small problem: *what if all the characters speak to me?* Seriously though, couldn’t agree more. This game just has so many good characters

Apparently they made inputs a little bit less intensive in UNI2, so it should be less daunting for new players.

The step by step easy to follow way you made this vid is extremely good and i will be sending this to people i know who have been intimidated to learn a fighting game. Please fo more in the future as you impove and please make more specifically as you improve at UNI.

Agreed! I'm working on a Metera beginner video for gbfvr . Someone else just put out a Metera tutorial video and he just casually goes "and then you do this combo" which of course is a massive combo that he doesn't explain.

No no, character love is important, after all you are gonna be spending potentially thousands of hours with them if you are really dedicated to the game, if no character calls to you there is no way you can spend that much time on a game

It is really hard to teach someone fighting games. The first hurtle is finding someone that actually wants to learn. I once played a guy in GGReloaded and he went 0-50, I tried to tell him how to do basic stuff (like how to block) but he just kept mashing. Another guy I played in SF4 and after the first game he was asking me how to do special moves and after every game I would teach him something else. After a month or so he was doing kara raging demons.
@igoesrawrr
@igoesrawrr 8 месяцев назад
Yeah, that’s also why it’s so hard to make a beginners guide. Do I go over how to use supers/block, or do I assume you have basic knowledge and skip over stuff like that? Hope this video helped regardless :)
@birdmanoo0
@birdmanoo0 8 месяцев назад
@@igoesrawrr A coworker of mine picked up DBZ when it came out, he was (likely still is) a complete beginner at fighters. We where talking about it and he mentioned how hard it was to time when to block. Turns out he was pressing back as he was getting attacked instead of holding back. Basically trying to perfect parry everything. Most fighting games expect you to know how to do the basics of fighting games. I think these games should ask you if you played one before when you first boot the game and give you a rundown of the basics if you haven't. As for your guide, I think it is a little bit higher then a beginner guide. A great guide for people that already understand the real basic stuff.
@K4ution_FGC
@K4ution_FGC 6 месяцев назад
18:20 Just wanna point out that what you are talking about is normally called blockstring, unist has a shield that you can perform on block so calling it "shield pressure" is wrong and leads to confusion, I was expecting that section to be about controlling the additional push back from the shield or something similar. 🤓

Insanely helpful and also funny video, thanks a lot! I was watching a couple tutorials too, supposedly for beginners, but they're talking about oki, GRD mechanics, corner carry, staggering,... and I'm like, what the fuck are those? I only played Smash too, similar to you (though I played all games *except* Melee), and my Smash knowledge transferred to maybe about 5% of actual useful things in UNI2, at least at my current level when I'm just mashing buttons because Smash combos are completely different from UNI2 combos. This guide ignores all of that and just focuses on the core basics of fighting games that will probably even be useful in other games too, not just UNI. I'll try improving using this!

I mean the best way to learn fighting games is to just play, uni like other fg has tutorials and combo trials all it takes is the time u put in. Like a test for school u just study the material. . people who do guide learned from the game themselves like urself but ur new so u don't know everything Like for example u can make ur pressure longer using smartsteer (auto combo) It's not like other auto combos where ur stuck with the animation u can cancel it into lows, throws manual input , it doesn't register as autocombo if u don't finish it. So u can go b, c, a, a(B) ,a(c), 2c, 2b,special cancel. As for the shield pressure That's just regular pressure, I thought u was talking about the actual shield mechanic before u actually got to it ur guide is mostly like everyone else , Pick a main, bread n butter, offense, defense, ect ect fundamentals. So the theory doesn't really mesh up when there's countless guides who say the same n , I personally believe people should just take the time to learn the game , if they've played other fighting games they already should know what they need to do since it's always back to square one when u learn a new fighting. If they're new they should focus on getting to know the game before looking for guides
