People spend hours and days crafting race cars from the ground up. They are tools used to accomplish feats of bravery. What happens to those cars when they're no longer needed?
Sterling Marlin's 2002 Daytona 500 car went on to live a long life in ARCA; it might still be there. The first chassis built by Hendrick Motorsports started Bobby Gerhart's Daytona dominance. GoFas Racing uses cars that won races over a decade ago. And what about those abandoned cars at race tracks?
If you know of an old chassis we should feature, let us know in the comments section. Thanks for watching!

Yeah, it's amazing how long their "careers" can really be. Passed around, and change body styles, even different manufacturers. Pretty interesting. I'd like a lot more technical stuff, period. I haven't watched a Nascar race in I don't even know how long. They've absolutely ruined the sport. I raced a dwarf when I was young, so it's in my blood and I absolutely love racing. But Nascar is just ridiculous. Maybe they've finally figured that out, and at least I can finally go to a race in Nashville again, err uh, close to Nashville... I wish I could've seen a cup race at the fairgrounds. That would've been something. And that's what Nascar needs to get back to. And maybe now, they'll finally finish the track here. Knew somebody that worked there and got a tour when they were still working on it, and still hoping to get a cup race. They had pads built for a 1/4 mile drag strip, which would've been the only one in the state other than Bristol, maybe one in Memphis or something, but still, have to drive for hours to get to one. A 5/8 mile asphalt I think, something like that, and like a 1/4 mile dirt track. It was gonna be something. But now, it's all grown up. Even all the RV parking that was like 1/4 down gravel seeded with grass so it wouldn't turn to mud in the rain. It was really gonna be a nice place. But I did get to ride in an old iroc car around it thanks to Marlboro. And went to a Indy race there, got tickets and pit passes from ABC building supply. Pretty nice place, I'm excited to see it finally maybe come to life as it was supposed to be. I don't know if it will. It'd be nice to have another asphalt short track and another dirt track close, and definitely to have a 1/4 mile drag strip. We've only got an 1/8 mile and it's on the other side of Nashville, pretty good drive to get to it.

He's pretty private about it and doesn't like to talk about it publicly unless he has too. He's had people wonder onto the property. He has multiple houses for his family on the property and is protective of it. There's a guy who lives on the property who manages it for him and he's caught countless people snooping around. Jr's wife wasn't happy about it cause they have a family. From what I have heard he stopped adding cars to the yard cause every time he would get a car or somebody gave him one it would make the rounds of social media. So his wife pretty much put a stop to it.

@@raulgomez1623 yeah I mean who would like to have random internet nerds wandering around into your property? There are more cars out there that maybe have cool and more interesting stories and some of them are even still active, I want to know the history I.E the dumpster cars from MBM that Timmy Hill has drove to top 15 and 10 positions, the history of the current Suárez cars, what happened with the Edwards, Busch and Biffle cars from the 2004-2006 era, and other old cars that could've been the fate for the small teams. Heck, I betcha Bubba and the Jonesboi gonna be driving old Truex and Edwards cars from 2015-17 while Denny, Kyle and MTJ gonna have all the brand-new 2021 stuff 😝 also I know for sure MBM has a superspeedway Ford that Petty sold him, It was the Almirola win car.

If I remember correctly the mystery car at Pocono is a Jeff Gordon car, or at least a #24 car that is painted like one of his. There is a UTV rental outfit next to the track that takes you on that trail that goes by there. There are a couple of other cars in there too.

Friend of mine has a 2000-ish Monte Carlo bodied cup car with some Square-D decals inside, presumably once was a 55 for Andy Petree but I've never been able to find out any way to determine the lineage of the car. Possible it's the car that finished 2nd to Earnhardt's last win. Possible it was a Bobby Hamilton car. Based on the decals on the outside it last ran as an ARCA car, unsponsored plain white with a lime green #94 on it. Whether or not it actually raced that way, who knows, but it wasn't hard to qualify for some ARCA events. There's a lot of filler under the paint, too. I thought maybe it was a speedway car as the trunk is heavily braced but I'm no expert. He also has a chassis that's supposed to be a former Petty car, but it's tinned up with a small driver compartment and has a coil front suspension with leafs in the back, which I think rules out it being anything Petty had unless it was a 1969 Torino. It does have blue paint in the spots hard to reach when it was repainted. Here the only way to ID it as a Petty car is to have Petty himself or one of his guys look at the car, which means a long haul from upstate NY. But it's two more examples of what happens to these cars as they get old. Before my friend got the Monte Carlo I happened to see it for sale, in front of a house, on a little side road that now is a dead end (removed a railroad crossing), like any other old used car. There's not even a series up here that runs cars like that, most of the tracks here are dirt.

The funny part is that last story isn't even the most memorable story related to a car body raced by Johnny Benson. The body of the car Johnny drove at the Superspeedways in Cup in the early 2000's, Daytona specifically, while driving for Tyler Jet & MBV has an interesting fate. The car is most notable as the car Johnny nearly won the 2000 Daytona 500 with. 2 & 1/2 years later in the 2002 Pepsi 400, Michael Waltrip wrecks (& injures) Johnny & the car was declared unrepairable. After that, Johnny kept the body of the car & he, & I'm *NOT* making this up, crushed up the car body & put it into a glass cube... which to the best of my knowledge he _still_ has in his car shop today.

Great work. I'm very glad you mentioned the contact beginning in Turn Three. I mistakenly said that Dale Earnhardt died in Turn Three, Car #3, running third. But Turn Three was only the beginning, and not the end. I had planned to become an Elliott Sadler fan after Dale Jarrett retired. I was going to follow the M&M's car after the UPS driver retired. My forum signature was, "Dale until M&M's." It didn't go over well with the overly-critical online racers at the time, because they thought I was referring to Dale Earnhardt Sr.'s death. No disrespect was intended during that brief period of my life. Your videos bring back the feelings from every era you display. Thank you.

When steel bodies were allowed in arca and phased out of cup, you could get a properly good piece of equipment for hardly nothing. One team showed up second time out, wrong brakes on a Newman Bristol car and got a top ten. The sister car was a Busch all star race car that was just let down by how much money they spent on a motor.

I live about 20 minutes away. Been going for years, always have walked around the property and never saw that before. I think I know where it's at. Edit: Yup I found it on google maps. It's by the "dirt track" just west of gate 1 (main entrance) and just south of the camp grounds. www.google.com/maps/place/40%C2%B040'55.4%22N+82%C2%B038'37.2%22W/@40.682048,-82.6442192,219m

@@TheFoyer13 I went and looked at it up close before. My buddy lives on Ross road so I stopped one night to check it out. If you turn onto Ross road from steam corners there’s the first entrance on the right for mid Ohio, right inside is a Quonset hut and it’s sitting right behind it.

Wow I never knew they reused old race cars and put new bodies on them!!😮 thanks for this really cool video sad to see old race cars rot away to me every one is a part of racing history and should be taken care of except if the driver died in them then they should be destroyed!!
