Staying at Jules' Undersea Lodge includes a pizza delivery, which the mission director delivers via freediving with a waterproof Pelican-like case. This is among the coolest pizza deliveries you're ever likely to see!
Since the pizza delivery guy is a dive master I'm sure he's aware, but for any who aren't... There is a risk of pulmonary barotrauma when surfacing from the habitat. Since you're breathing in pressurized air (the habitat is at 22 feet or so), as you rise and the water pressure decreases the air in your lungs will expand. You need to exhale as you rise to release the excess air. That's not a problem when you're using scuba gear, but a snorkeler might be tempted to hold his or her breath. That would be bad.
@@Uncle_john_skydives It's not "obvious" to everyone; even Leonardo da Vinci didn't take water pressure into account, and sketched a "snorkel suit" with a long tube that no human could have breathed through due to chest squeeze. I pointed it out for any who weren't aware of it and who might try holding their breaths after coming out of this or any other underwater habitat...such as an air pocket in a cave. How about you stop being a troll?
That looks awesome. Never heard of an underwater hotel before but imagine when we completely expand our civilization to the depth. It would looks so cool. Edit: I came from Daily Dose btw
Fun fact when they first started delivering pizza down there the pelican case you see in the vid wasn’t the one that was used originally. They had to stack the pizza pieces on top of each other cuz it was a narrow tube like container haha.
Yep, just here from DDOI like everyone else 🤣 But still, this is a cool video and I never knew there was even an underwater hotel, let alone a pizza delivery service 🤩
I stayed there 5 years ago. Didn't order the pizza as they had arranged for some decent food to me down there. Did some diving with a local manatee that used to hang around in that lagoon.
Inside the hotel? It is air conditioned, so it was sort of cool... comfortable. It was hot outside in Florida, so it felt perfect. The pizza was not soggy, it was really good! Just like any other pizza delivery you'd get, except underwater :-P It is delivered in a waterproof Pelican case. We had been diving all day every day for 7 days at that point, so to us, it was the best pizza in the world! :-)
could happen, just need insulation and vaccuum seal. if there is no vacuum tight seal then the pizza might inflate (due to crust bubbles) and possibly burst if it works then astronauts will have ISSDash (doordash, but for the ISS)
Just took a trip to key largo, didn’t know this was a thing but we did love tower of pizza so much we ate there two times on a 4 day trip. I’m really hoping this was their work...
I'd say it's worth it if you like either diving or adventure. Not many people can say they've woken up with nothing but ocean at their window and 20+ feet of water overhead! We spent our night eating pizza and watching underwater horror movies :-P They have a large selection of movies, and will go get whatever you want if they don't have it.
You have to wait to open the case until the pressure equalizes. Since the pressure is greater at depth than on the surface where the case was closed, the lid physically won't open until it equalizes.
