What I really appreciate about your channel is that it is really DIY and you guys are sharing what you learned that other DIYers would find helpful. This project looks so good. I have to imagine getting the wood/ glue off the concrete was a pain! There is nothing quite like the satisfaction of looking at a completed project you did on your own, I have to say! Your work was great! I have a question. I'm a renter and cant actually do the underlayment so I was thinking of sticking it directly onto the existing adhesive vinyl but when it comes to removal, where using a hairdryer can melt the glue hence ease the removal process, do you think it will also uplift the existing vinyl underneath? I gotta get that deposit back haha 😂

Fujoshina, we understand about getting that deposit when it's time to leave. There are different types of peel and stick products and they each have a different type of adhesive. If it were us and we wanted to make sure we got our deposit, we would probably use the cheaper peel and stick to guarantee it won't stay on the floor forever ♾️. You may have to continuously spot correct the floor, but you won't have to deal with the hassle in the end when it's time to get your money. Your thoughts??? -DIYPC 😃

Fujoshina, you might want to engage your landlord. I upgraded a number of things in my first apartment and the building engineer was quite supportive - nothing wrong with an apartment being slightly more attractive than others. In my renting days, I found that as long as I wasn't *damaging* anything or doing something crazy, my landlords have all been ... Well, grateful that I am trying to improve their property rather than destroy it.

Our floors are vinyl and it's very cold. I was planning to put over peel and stick but now I'm not sure. Should I remove the floor, add insulation than plywood and than peel and stick? Trying to make sure the floors are not cold during the winter in FL.

Mark, we tiled right over the vinyl tile in our bathroom and it turned out great. We also tiled over concrete in our kitchen. Both worked well for us, but it seems that tiling over your existing vinyl will give you more of a barrier from the cold underlayment in your home. Also, it is a lot more work to remove flooring, add insulation, place down plywood only to still have a cold floor. 😁Let us know your thoughts. Great job.. I see that you use thin ply. Should I go for thicker or thin.. And what you mean use water barrier.? Between ply and top floor?

Yanger melodies, we used a thin ply so that the floor would be flush with the existing wood flooring after we applied the peel and stick to the new floor. You can definitely use a thicker ply if you do not have to make 2 sets of flooring flush against the other. Let us know how it turns out!😃 -DIYPC

By the way, the water barrier is a separate (plastic-like) material that you can put down before you start that will protect the wood against moisture or water damage.

Could I use that sure ply directly over top of old floor board planks in an attic instead of plywood?

TheBidendotWIN, if you plan to walk in the attic, we would put down plywood because of its durability. The underlayment we used in this video is thin and is supported by the concrete flooring. Let us know how it goes. -DIYPC 😃

Would you ever recommend putting peel and stick directly over concrete instead of using the underlayment? Is it possible to do in order to get good results?

Hi Santwon! Only if your concrete is completely smooth and level. A larger space with a lot of foot traffic will probably need an underlayment. We tiled over concrete in this video: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-KLGdmqcEm8U.html

Syd, we did not take off the base boards because we were able to place the underlayment beneath them. We would remove the base boards if that is not the case for you so that the flooring will go all the way to the wall and then the new base boards will be even all around the room. My issue is that I live in a rental apartment and when I leave I don't want to deal with the hassle of removing all the adhesive from the floor. Is there something else I could use to get a nice tight un-removeable look with my peel and stick tiles?

Lavishly imperfect, we saw someone use contact paper🗞️. That could be a short-term non-evasive option. Let us know how it turns out. -DIYPC

As an extension on your suggestion of contact paper, what brand or type of contact paper would you recommend that peel and stick tile would adhere to for a kitchen backsplash. Could you maybe use musclebound adhesive tile mat? Have you used adhesive tile mats? Are they really renter friendly? Thank you in advance! Love your content!

Pretty sure you aren’t supposed to use those tile spacers on peel and stick vinyl tiles. Those spacers are meant for ceramic tiles which are then grouted in between…..

Joe, Yes. We put the underlayment over concrete. The concrete had a lot of glue on it that had to be removed first. Hope this help. -DIYPC 😃

How did you seal your underlayment? You had mentioned in written type that it was not water resistant.

Hi CC, we used power grab construction adhesive to attach the underlayment to the concrete subfloor. It was not sealed by itself. The waterproofing came by using peel & stick tiles and grouting the seams.
