I just went through this. Finally after 3 months and a lot of physical therapy, I am starting to feel normal just this week. That was miserable.

I am currently suffering through this on week 10. No solid improvement and most days a tug of war with going backwards.

Curious if the fluid from an annular tear will show on the MRI or just the tear itself?

So Im currently recovering from a broad annular tear L4/L5 and mod tear at L5/S1. My MRI picked up the tears and their detail. My spinal surgeon said they would have to do a discogram or something like that to identify current "leakage" by shooting dye into the affected area, but this can lead to more complications. So def no go for me. Hope you're asking for a friend ;) Good luck to All

@@KBradAdams Hey Brad, So when my discs first ruptured it was very bad fast, next day after picking my purse up (something so silly). My ruptures were diagnosed as an overuse injury from installing 3 days of flooring. Intense pain from buttocks to my outer lower leg on both sides, left worst than right. So bad that I couldnt stand up straight, showers and washing hair was the worst, sharp pains would shoot down lower body making you want to fall to feet. Being upright was difficult, couldnt walk much, chores and going to the bathroom was always loathed. Couldn't sit, had to either stand or lie down. Don't suggest sleeping in recliner, one of my worst nights. Pain varied from intense ache to sharp nerve stabbing pain. Pain was constant the first month, which drove me to seek help. After finding a good PT, getting an MRI, discussing with Spinal Surgeon and finally came up with a recovery plan. Let me know if you'd like to know more and I can share my experiences. I've got a tough case and I'm pretty active and work is physically demanding, so I couldn't accept my situation. It took about 5 months before I could finally walk upright without pain (at times). Its now 8 months and I'm finally starting to push back into life :) but very concerned with re-injury due to my lifestyle and physiology of injury. Since injury life has changed, I take vitamins daily (tumeric, joint, etc) and do exercises daily to help re-build core. I lived on ibuprophen for the first month and heat packs. Sorry to yammer on. Don't really know if I helped or not. Sorry you're going through this! This was one of the worst and longest low of my life. I wish you relief and and quick recovery! Let me know if have any questions :) I learned a lot from others

@@cassondraschoch3926 Thanks for the reply. I think I am in the same boat. Had discectomy at L4/L5 for a ruptured disc, but my L5/S1 had annular tears that they never addressed. 2 years later re ruptured L4/L5, had fusion April 2020, but my back does not feel stable so I think its L5/S1 that was never addressed. Anyway fast forward to now was supposed to have refusion on L4/L5, and fuse L5/S1 but my surgeon leaves the practice 2 weeks before surgery. So I had to scramble for a new surgeon and have talked to about 4 so far. Only one will do the re fusion and fuse L5/S1, right now just trying to take it easy and go as long as I can without surgery until Covid slow down. Thanks again for your reply.

@@cassondraschoch3926 Good for you, always avoid a discogram when possible. It's been hell every time I get one. 10/10 in tears type of pain. It definitely shows the leak very well, however. It's why you only want to do it in certain circumstances. Plus you are actually causing slight damage because you have to go through the annulus with the needle.
