Let's dive right into the heart of photography basics. Have you ever been stuck trying to break down the fundamentals of photography for friends or family? I've found myself in that spot, so I decided to create a series of videos to tackle this challenge, starting with aperture.
➡️ Aperture is a cornerstone of photography, sitting alongside ISO and shutter speed in the trio of essential elements that form the backbone of every shot. Picture the aperture as the eye of your camera, regulating the flow of light hitting the sensor. But the aperture's role extends beyond mere light management; it's pivotal in crafting depth of field, enabling those beautiful, soft backgrounds that make subjects stand out.
In this video, I'll take you through the ins and outs of aperture, from decoding f-stop numbers to offering hands-on advice for shooting with a wide aperture. To cement your understanding, I've prepared practical exercises, such as an "aperture walk" and indoor portrait sessions, to help you apply what you've learned in real-world scenarios.

Nice video and introduction for new photographers. There is one aspect of aperture I missed in your explanation which was an eye opener for me when I started: lower apertures also mean a much smaller range of focus, in other words, the part of the image that is sharp decreases when you open up the aperture more. This is for me the most important reason not to shoot open wide on fast lenses, as it can start "blurring" parts of the face or body of the subject.

Hey thanks Jorge, yeah, ive tried to explain these things for my girlfriend a few times and though why not make this a little video series. Good to have a refresher as well. About what you missed, im sure I mention it as shallow depth of field? Maybe I didnt underline that enough though, and yep, a typical thing is to go too wild with blurringg out too much, as mentioned. Cheers for watching, really appreciate your feedback! Have a good one buddy
