bro why tf is your icon a g, there isnt even a g in your name. what was this alt account's name before you decided to transform it into this? edit, was it grand rounds?
Can you cover the treatment protocol Korea is using on critical patients with HydroxyChloroquine. Their numbers look very good. Why is this not being tested in Western Europe or USA ?
Oh yes, Chubbyemu, the CEO of explaining -emia, meaning presence in blood, has presented to a great informational video about COVID-19 where we are now.
As a Chinese-American the creator of this vid was optimally situated to understand both cultures at play as the virus transmitted from China to America and I think he did an exemplary job of analyzing both the history of what happened and explaining the biology in an accessible way. Super well done. This will get shown in biology and history classes in 50 years.
what me!? Culture and genetics are traditionally thought of as two separate processes, but researchers are increasingly realising that they are intimately connected, each influencing the natural progression of the other.
Very interesting. I like how because of your connections to China you are able to give a unique perspective. I didn't think about how that huge group of a billion people might be thinking about this all with all the world's blame being heaped on them for this. I have some family on my mothers side from Soviet Poland.. What they describe the feeling of many people was after Chernobyl was one of "How could we let this happen, we are better then that" it's a very similar to what you describe people in China feel. The truth is mistakes and mismanagement happen all over the world... I believe the key is scrutinizing only individuals and relevant circumstances. For example if a certain segment of the population of Hubei has a issue with eating bush meat... focus on them, don't group all of the Chinese together. This only even adds confusion to the situation. I may be wrong, I'm no expert, but that is my humble and amateur view of the situation. Also, I do enjoy this new podcast series and the longer more in-depth style. Look forward to more.
This podcast should have waaaaaay more views. No fearmongering no miss-information just pure facts and medical info. Thank you Chubbyemu! Greetings from Greece!
They wouldn't have to be sorrowful if they didn't eat bats. Nobody is saying everyone in China eats bats, just that some people do, and that's enough. Most coronavirus strains are bat-related, in fact.
@@314rft So do squirrels, possums, raccoons, etc. and yet you see people eating them here in the US. Part of it is a habit, but a large part of it, especially in Wuhan, is wealth. If you don't have the money to afford farm-raised beef or have the tools to properly cook chicken thoroughly without scorching the flesh, and you need food, you will eat almost anything. I'm not saying Wuhan is on average poor, it is likely quite the opposite, as if I am correct, Wuhan is a major manufacturing city in China, but rather that the populations who are poor, consume these poor-quality sources of nutrients, get sick with a novel disease, and then proceed to spread it throughout populations, oftentimes without knowing they are ill. Personally, however, if I was desperate for protein, I would turn to insects. Easy to cook, not that bad in taste, and an absolutely excellent source of protein. A small bowl of seasoned and fried crickets provides over 20g of protein. Plus they're super easy to grow and harvest.
Gotta say, that guy at 12:44 looks like Chubbyemu. Good-looking, well-mannered, serious and that voice sanitizes my soul from the deadly pathogens. If God is real, it has to be him!
Watching this video two years later and I’m impressed at how much information Dr. Bernard can cram into such a reasonable amount of time he has made me strive to look for a cure for cancer.
As Chinese, I have to say I have never heard someone will eat bats. In case I am young and I might don't know some culture things, I asked elder family member, they told me the bats looks ugly and it is a sign of evil in the culture, and they would never eat them even if get can get 1 million... It is reasonable because if some animals' meat is delicious, it will be popular, like pork, beef, and sheep. They will be remembered, generation by generation, as a counterexample
Seafox I don't know. But in my opinion, the coronavirus not only hurts Chinese /U.S. economy, but also the whole world's. It is not profitable to use coronavirus as a tool. Meanwhile, the coronavirus is likely not a biochemical weapon because almost every country is influenced by it.
It was probably passed from a bat or pangolin that came in contact with something that people do eat. The chinese-bat eating thing is just xenophobia in action.
@@japuma630 idk if I'd go as far as to say xenophobia. I haven't seen anyone make fun of the Chinese because of it. Someone can be ignorant without being xenophobic. That being said, I'm fairly sure I read and was told that It spread to humabs as a result of how the meat markets are handled. If I'm not mistaken, the virus didn't even originate in bats. The markets keep different types of animals in small spaces which makes the possibility of cross-species infection very high. Add in to that pests which will be around regardless and that interact with humans and those closely kept animals on the regular and it was basically an outbreak waiting to happen. I don't actually know where the bat thing came from but I've only ever heard that it originated from meat markets.
@@iceCream0510 well because some hurt-mentally people just use all this fear and anxiety against some chinese community in countries outside china. Lately, i saw some chinese people sell their fruit on the side of the road for $1 per bag of orange. This is crazy.
Would love an updated video from you, explaining the most recent developments. You're amazing at explaining everything in a way that's easiest for me to understand.
Chubbyemu i hope you see this man, im a 3rd year medical student and i’ve been following you from 2017 and honestly i really wanna thank you❤️ you are one of the people i look up to!
I love the way you narrate Bernard. I'm not a medical professional in any way but this was still understandable and more technical (which I like) than the typical chubbyemu video
There was something very calming about watching this. I have been meaning to read up on the actual science of the coronavirus but a mix of uni assessments and fears that even though I am studying biology at a university level I won't understand it has stopped me. I really appreciate the time you put into this
Good to see your content! You should do behind the scenes commentary’s (or something like that). I enjoy watching your medical videos, but miss seeing your personality. And comedy. I love your older videos! Either way, keep it up! Great work.
You're doing a great service; your ability to remain straight-faced and professional is nothing short of commendable. I, personally, have much gratitude to have stumbled upon these channels you put out...there are some stunning occurrences out there.
Yay, another Chubbyemu channel! I subscribed, _with notifications,_ and followed your podcast on Spotify. I can't get enough of you, Chubbyemu, because you are awesome! 🙌🏻
I have a new neurotic tick thanks to these vids. Anytime I do something or am about to do something even vaguely dangerous or disconcerting I can hear Emu's voice in my head: "A man took an amino acid supplement, creatine, with the prescription medication, lithium, for several months. This is what happened to his kidneys." and like, "A man used a nasal dilator to help him sleep for 2 months. This is what happened to his nasal cartilage." and "A man washed the counters with common dish soap followed by a spritz of (generic multi-surface cleaner), this is what happened when he and his family inhaled the resulting noxious fumes." It's every fucking time but at least it helps me second guess myself.
Very informative. It's great you are doing these podcasts along side your normal chubbyemu videos. People need to watch this and stop believing what they read on Facebook.
Great podcast and definitely changed my mind about Chinese food culture. And thanks for the video always interesting to watch chubbyemu's videos. Great work!
God bless doctors nurses scientists etc. Thank you for all you do.I know we are still fighting this and there are some REAL assholes out there. You are loved and appreciated.
the real assholes are the ones firing the nurses and doctors that decide for thier personal circumstances they dont need the vax. many have natural immunity. and they were heros last year even a few months ago. now tens of thousands of them are being thrown out. while we have a pandemic and a nursing/doctor shortage already. now we will all have to pay for this in our medical care.
i did actually hear about it here in USA in January 2020 - one of the doctors i work with is still relatively young and spunky, so to speak, and she liked to keep abreast of medical news. i remember her telling me she was worried it would become a global pandemic. in March 2020, right around when this video was published, a patient came in with their non-urgent condition, telling us 'oh by the way, i think i got coronavirus from my husband in the ICU'. within 24 hours everyone in my household was sick. i let my workplace know and that's when i found out they already decided to shut down. testing was limited still, so none of us ever got confirmed
my mother was hospitalized in december 2019 with pneumonia that had become septic, about two o three weeks earlier, she'd went to the hospital and she'd been diagnosed with bronchitis. around that time (and into early january of 2020) i got a bad case of what i thought was bronchitis. according to my friends, i sounded like a coffee pot when i'd breathe out. my mother or i never have been confirmed, either. it's actually kind of terrifying when you think about it, huh?
Thank you for the helpful info. Now, can you PLEASE explain why people lost their minds and bought as much toilet paper as they could once this virus was con formed in our area? We now have to order toilet paper online as we can't get ANY in stores at all! I really don't understand the correlation between the two. Any idea?
Don't quote me on this, but I believe the insane toilet paper prepping started with the online myth that we receive toilet paper from China and that the plants were going to shut down. This is untrue. There's a paper plant less than 2 hours away from my town, and yet people are going feral. If I'm wrong about that, then my alternative explanation is that people think they're going to be trapped in their homes for days and days on end and need to keep themselves prepared.
I would be interested in a second video regarding the scientific advances regarding the virus, the vaccine and the numerous mutations occurring and what the future looks like as we shift into new challenges.
Back in january I was working as a phone rep for a US pharma insurance company. I warned every caller about this virus well before it reached international soil. Had a good laugh then, didn't expect it to take off this well.
thank you for making these amazing videos, I learn a lot and I am so thankful you make these videos for free and explain things easily so everyone understands, you are awesome
Thank you for this video. I learned a ton and knowing more about it that isn't sensationalized has really calmed my nerves about this whole thing. I hope you're staying safe. Been a fan for years and I'd hate for the channel to end as many of your videos begin: presenting to the emergency room.
4:27 I remember January 19, 2020, I left home flew half way across the world, here I am November 2021, still sheltering in place, tring to figure out what happened and what should I do?
I really love how quick the mainstream media went from "Oh, this is just a nothing burger, just a flu" to "OH MY GOD WE'RE ALL GOING TO DIE!" Also: What's up with your avatar? it keeps switching between 'HEME👏 REVIEW👏' and a 'G'
This is how the media in the US works. They exist on two extremes, people were calling it a pandemic before it ever reached those levels, and then people were saying it's just the common cold. In reality, it is something to be scared of. But it is not something to panic over. Panicking only sends a shock to manufacturers and prevents them from getting supplies to medical professionals and people who need it most. It's best to remain alert, and aware of the spread, and to seek medical assistance ASAP if you notice symptoms that could be signs of a Covid - 19 infection. The disease may start with flu-like symptoms, but left untreated, those symptoms will evolve into pneumonia, even in healthy people. Remain informed and clean, IE - frequently wash your hands, try to keep a 6ft clearance from those who seem ill, and avoid touching your face, and you drastically reduce your risk.
Yeah, MSM hasn't been relevant for some time now. Independent media outlets have been telling people to cautiously prepare for a couple months now, while the legacy media is in panic mode because their corporate masters are also panicking & angling for ever more control over the public by sneaking totalitarian crap into proposed bills.
@@profribasmat217 - You leftard, are the problem. You've got that exactly backwards. For someone that loves math, you should be a common sense conservative instead of an indoctrinated leftist. Independent media has been warning people to prep for COVID-19 2+ months ago while MSM is in panic mode & Fox is largely in between those. They're just as informed as the rest of msm - not much at all & are catching up on what most people have known at least a week or 2 in advance already. MedCram & Dr. John Campbell are the best independent sources for actual data.
*QUESTION:* So are we in for a *2nd,* perhaps even *3rd* wave (in 2020) until we know who actively transmits? How long can an asymptomatic person transmit the virus with concentrations high enough to make someone sick, even if I don't succumb at all? Are two week quarantines enough to ensure that asyms cannot transmit enough virus to make others sick? ?
Hi Chubbyemu, towards the end you advise to get your symptoms checked out, what would be your advice to someone in the UK, where we're asked to stay at home and not overburden the hospitals if possible?
I do believe that you should do a new Covid video. Maybe covering the mysterious syndrome that children get, and how case counts are going up, even in children. And the variants. Just a thought. Great video, very informative.
Thank you for mentioning the shame Chinese citizens feel over the virus. We tend to focus on Governments, but forget the experience of everyday people. I sympathize with their position. Interesting perspective!
Hello, so i have an lymfnode infection. Does that put me in a risk group? Because my doctor told me it did not, but from the papers i have read (though i am not schooled in biology or chemistry) i would think that i am.
They were talking about it for the SARS1 virus, could it happen here? Maybe but we don't know for sure yet, and if so, in how many we can expect. Ground Glass Opacity on CT in context of this infection is not good evidence for fibrosis, which would be the reference to permanently damaged lungs. Fibrosis usually takes a long time to develop. Take note of the word usually. We're still learning more about this
@2:10 according to my friends and family from Wuhan, the answer is no: people there typically do not eat snakes and bats. Wuhan is primarily known for their dry noodles, among other things. but not bats.
At 15 minutes you talk about angiotensin receptors being an entry point for Covid-19 infection. Could using an angiotensin blocker like the drug Losartan be a way to block infection with an existing common use drug? It's something I've been wondering about since my brother is taking this drug, has a few other co-morbidities, and yet didn't contract the virus during the first wave of infections. He did get the vaccine when it became available and still has not gotten any of the mutated strains of Covid.
Nice to hear all the Chinese locations pronounced correctly... (at least I assume so, I don't know much about the language I just have a really good ear for pronunciation)
I wish there was more straightforeward communication like this instead of “panic good.” It would make it much easier for us men of science to make progress.
