With all the time put into the cars and engines, What do you plan to do about the couplers? I did not buy a shelf model just to look at, I purchased a model to operate with. The couplers on you use are not operator friendly at all.
Classic Trains: are you referring to the couplers on the Kit Classics/Operator models or Rivet Counter/Museum Quality? Also, what specifically is your concern? Shane
The N-scale couplers do not couple without using force to push the cars together, The couplers are not compatible with other brands of couplers. They will not couple with KATO engine couplers at all, next to impossible to couple to Atlas couplers and engines, and barely work with with MTL style couplers. Maybe these models are not intended for operators and just should be display units. I thought it was me but the one complaint about your models is the couplers. You need to reach out and ask what N-scale operators need or expect. There are now a few videos out with complaints about the couplers. You should reach out and talk to those creators.
Classic Trains: With all of our N Scale Products, we use our standard Knuckle Couplers, but if you choose to swap them out you can with Micro Trains or another brand of your choosing as our coupler pockets are designed to fit other manufactures couplers if needed. -Ian
I've made some resurse about ESU´s sound decoders. ESU sells V4.0 sound decoders in several different versions, and the Select as well, but I can´t find a ESU Essential Sound Unit. Maybe Scale Trains could make me wiser about this ESU Essential Sound Unit.
Hi there, ESU's Essential Sound Unit is slightly different than the Lok-Sound Select. The Select Decoder gives you more function options and control features whereas the Essential Sound Unit gives you limited sounds and functions. -Ian
Great informative video... my scale trains operator SD40-2 did not come with a manual can you tell me how to change the horn sounds by chance. I would like to get close to the UP sound
Hi there, please go to scaletrains.com/pages/product-manuals and click on Tech Notes: Sound Operation under Operator Locomotives to see the manual for changing the horn type and more. -Ian
Thank you very much I appreciate info. One last thing I see where the f0 is for headlights but I dont know or if there is a function to turn off the lighting in the number boards by chance .. again I just didn't see that in the manual .. do they just stay on at all times curious
Hi Charlie, we used both in the video to show the DC and DCC compatibility with the ESU Decoders. The unit that controlled the trains in the video was the NCE System and the Tech 6 was used as an example. Hope this helps. -Ian
ScaleTrains.com ok thanks for that info.. maybe just a suggestion though and keep in your thoughts as to producing some in. the future.. I think it would add to your line as well
I use the Bachmann ez command control center for my DCC locomotives. It’s much easier for me, it works with any brand of train, better yet any DCC decoder.
ScaleTrains.com Unfortunately the Bachmann ez command control system doesn’t access all the locomotive sounds. Functions are listed 1 to 10. It doesn’t do CV changes either. Still I can ring the bell. Blow the horn. Hear the coupler clank. The dynamic breaks. And locomotive start up and shut down. Not sure if it does drive hold. I’ll have to try it out one day. And I’m very glad to have one of your manufactured N scale Tier 4 GEVO. CSX #3250 (2015 production). Soon I shall have CSX #3378 (2016 production). Also still looking into your SD-40-2 in operator and Rivet Counter. However CSX redesigned some of there SD-40-2s into SD-40-3s. There very beautiful looking. Truly y’all are off to a good start.
Received two CSX GEVO with DCC and ESU Eseential Sound. All advertising and product information claim LED number boards, well NOT so have two no LED number boards on either one, Scale Trains service say decoder will not do number boards. Sure must have been down graded from SD 40-2 units that have LED boards !!!!n
Hi frankbed, to answer your question. The Operator SD40-2's do not have ditch lights, so there is an extra output for the number boards. our Operator Tier 4 GEVo's do in fact have LED number boards already, you just have to wire into the main headlight output for them to illuminate. Sorry for any confusion this may have caused. -Ian
WHEW! Inflation is a pain... description for a EMD SD40-2 with DCC and sound for $119.99 that would be an absolute steal these days! Can't even get "DCC ready" (aka DC just with a board installed to make installation of a DCC system easier) for that price.
