Wednesday is the breakout hit from Netflix and Tim Burton last year chronicling the story of Wednesday Addams from the popular Addams Family. Originally created as a comic by Charles Addams, the Addams family has become a popular franchise over decades, spanning movies, tv shows and more. So how does one keep it fresh? By switching up genres and adding a Gen Z spin upon it. Focusing mostly on modern teenagers and youth overall, Wednesday encompasses their world and problems. Specifically, a world where young people who are smart, but immature are forced to make adult decisions and deal with the consequences. This is a world filled with the politics of gen z, their feelings of responsibility towards the historical karmic conflicts of the world, be they racism, sexism, colonialism and more. In Wednesday's world the central conflict is one of normies vs. outcasts, one group vs. the other, and the villain is Joseph Crackstone, the pilgrim who murdered her ancestors. Wednesday is the classic Zoomer, seeing only her own anger and hatred, and perpetuating the conflict forward into the future as she dukes it out with Christina Ricci's character for survival. The problem is that despite their education, intelligence, and awareness, they are also young and immature. They are incapable of kindness and empathy because they see only the facts. They are wise in many ways and lacking wisdom in other ways, and without guidance from older folks, without a new way of looking at the world, they will continue the conflicts of the past into the future.
