With the aim of deepening understanding on our campus of the broad context and impact of the Israel-Hamas war, Professors Natan Meir, Nina Spiegel, Loren Spielman, and Michael Weingrad provide insight from four different perspectives within the field of Judaic Studies: Jewish history and the history of antisemitism; the role of trauma in Israeli society; classical rabbinic texts; and Jewish literature. Please note that this event is not meant to be an “explainer” of the immediate causes of the war and will not provide detailed explanations of the history or geopolitics of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
The four professors are faculty members of The Harold Schnitzer Family Program in Judaic Studies at Portland State University.
