Right on Eric!!!! We live full time in a 31 Ft Greyhawk Motorhome and I totally agree with your video. It is such a pain in the butt to have to either risk being blocked in or to be cussed out by those who do not understand. Our tail radius is huge and it is way to easy to clip a car accidently. Thanks for the great video. Cheryl

I retired from trucking several years ago, so I definitely understand why RVs do that. I think you did a really good job of trying to explain why it's necessary to park that way. Good job Eric!

Similar things happen me while parking my 13 foot travel trailer. I pulled in long ways across a few parking spots at a Whataburger, I left 2 spots at the end in front me so I could pull out later and a car park right in front of my tow vehicle and directly behind it so I had to wait for the front car to leave. I saw the lady pull in and park there as I was walking from my vehicle and trust me the girl was clueless and didn't have a brain in her head. My tow vehicle front end was less than 2 feet from her passenger door. She was texting from the time she got out of the car until the time she got back in in her vehicle. Keep in mind, when there is a single row of parking (and in the back) you must park cross ways). There were plenty of other places for her to park. Another time I was getting gas at a Walmart and someone park cross ways along the curb ahead of me, got out and went to the attendant window to get Cigs, stayed around shooting the bull and all the time looking over at me, surely knowing I was ready to pull out and couldn't until he moved, unless I wanted to take out a pump or 2. Unless he was thinking "well why is she just sitting there?" People today are not ever in the "present" they are on their phones with their heads downs 24-7 and never look at what is going on around them in the "present." I feel your pain. LT, from Texas.

@sjr7822 6 лет назад
Can I relate to this sentence "People today are not ever in the "present" they are on their phones with their heads downs 24-7 and never look at what is going on around them" I happen to live on a road the ATV club uses, I saw a young couple, girl driving, she waved to me, her partner, seating in back of her, had his head down texting, I thought, how sad he isn't interacting with the world around him, as she was. He missed my front yard full of fruit trees, hummingbird feeders, clematis, and morning glory vines in full bloom of various pinks and purples, and sunflowers big and small. So sad what we have in our future for our world, as we insolate ourselves through technology. I saw the best America had to offer, I can see what many generations that followed have missed already

I have a travel trailer too. When I have to park across spaces I always park at the end of the isle with tow vehicle facing the island. Then I turn my wheels so my truck is angled half way through the last space, leaving enough room between me and the island to get out, but not enough room for anyone to park. Then i can just pull out as turn is already started.

Thanks for the explanation about tail swing. Anytime I've ever been to a Walmart I've always seen RVs parked as far away from the doors as possible. I would never think to park my car next to an RV but I sure do admire them.

Just watched “Tail Spin” video. That was great! You explained it better than I have ever heard! People don’t realize how much room an RV needs to move around. We’ve been blocked in, even though we were at the outside parking spaces, away from regular parking spots. Great explanation, loved the clothes pin cars! 😊😊👍🏻

Yes, as fellow RV owner I agree with this. Been blocked in many a time. I remember seeing a video that a guy shot using his drone flying over the RV to demonstrate the amount of tail swing the RV actually had. You could clearly see the lines he was crossing when leaving the parking space. Have a good one! -Jon

Amen Eric, being the wife of a truck driver I totally understand what you're saying and you're right people need to understand what it takes to maneuver a large vehicle. Prayers that your new brake system repair will last like it's supposed too and prayers for your safe travel. I will be looking for you anytime I'm out on the road in the semi so if you see some crazy woman hanging out the window of a dark rust semi waving..it's just me saying hello :). Looking forward to your next adventure and thanks for taking the time to share

eric, great video! glad you went back to the old intro i always loved it! doesnt matter if you are using this as a filler video or not, you showed some great information and kept things interesting. i miss some of your older educational focused videos. those were my favorite. you should try putting some more back in so you dont have to be so pushed to whip out videos of new locations and points of interest so much! Maybe go back and redo some of your solar setup videos and explanations, go over some boondocking ideas etc. i really like when you share knowledge or useful items that can come in handy! Eric, I have been in that same situation before with my 30' class A. Sometimes you will have to back out of the spot. Not saying that you don't know that. I was a owner operator of a ten car auto transporter for over 35 years, I am sure that you have seen them before, you should take a close look at one someday. The tail end swing is just like a motor home but when loaded with ten cars the rig is 70 feet long. Backing in at a truck stop in them tight ass spots is a challenge, when loaded trying not to hit a truck that is parked there sleeping late at night and trying not to damage the new cars on my truck all at the same time being dead tired after a long 16 hour day picking up cars all over the state. Yes people are stupid and selfish and only think of them self's and very inconsiderate. But i have found that driving my new 40' motor home and towing the jeep parking is easier even at the Walmart's. I take up spots just like that truck in your video, easy exit out of the spots and the parking lot. Great video by the way it will help the new RVers, Hopefully they fixed your breaks for good this time. :)

Really a good video! Many drivers don’t understand you need extra room to pull out and turn. Lol I have see exactly what you are talking about. Huge parking lot with plenty of parking and someone pulls right up next to you! What’s worse is when a semi parks close and you have to hear his generator running. Thanks for sharing the info, safe travels👍🇺🇸

Thank you, Eric - for the simple explanation. I KNEW what the problem was but didn't know how to put it into words. I am not an Rver but it just made sense to me. I like diagrams. I use a powerchair sometimes, if my backpack is full on the back, I have mini tail swing lol but I do have to be mindful going through doors or turning down aisles.

Back out of the space. Your front doesn't have overhang (neither does NF's vehicle) so you can still get out. Yes, it's a pain in the ass. No, if you're parked where there's nobody wanting to park I am not going to judge you for making your life easier. But you don't have to be stuck if you're boxed in. :)

I went to lunch with a guy at work who had a new car, and as soon as we parked he got out and put those big orange cones around his car, it worked, but was a little odd. Your drum problem reminds me of a similar problem I had with a restored 1971 Olds Cutlass. It had drum brakes on all 4 wheels, and kept burning up the drums, I had 3 sets of drums and pads installed, they still wouldn't stop properly, and still vibrated and smoked. I had custom disc brakes installed on the front wheels and that solved the problem.

I had a 3 day old car and i had to take my kids to the mall. It was winter so all the cars were parked as close to the entrance as possible. I parked way far away where there were no cars. ( hoping to go week without door dings) When I came out of the mall, my car was still way out there but, there were two cars parked right next to me. It was like my car had a magnetic attraction and made them park way out there. I don't get it either/

I have a 20 foot motorhome so tailswing in parking lots isnt an issue. I can park anywhere a car can 90% of the time. I do have to watch out for tailswing though. I parked next to a patio roof on a street and when I pulled out I hit the roof with my upper right corner. Totally forgot about the upper tailswing.
