Understanding Testicular Torsion 

I live in constant fear of getting testicular torsion. Its in my top 3 greatest fears along with chimpanzees and accidents

This happened to me last year. By far the most painful experience I’ve ever had. Also it at grown to twice the size and was rock solid like a glass marble. They had to remove it, not because of torsion, but rather because they realized during surgery that I had testicular cancer. It was quite a traumatic experience but I’m glad the doctors were able to act fast.

This happened to me at 14, woke up left testicle was in extreme pain when I felt it , I noticed that I’ve had twist before but it would untwist but this time it was completely torqued. I threw up on the way to the hospital. Doctors tried to untwist it manually which relieved some pain. Went into surgery and was glad to have kept my nut. Recovery isn’t bad at all healed up completely in a couple weeks

Literally discovered this like an hour ago and have never been so paranoid and on edge ever....some things are seriously best left forgotten and this is one of them. All the shit I keep seeing from people who've experienced it make it sound like a horror story.

I had this a year ago. For people that arent sure if they have it, I can say that you definitely will know when it is a torsion or not. First of all, if you feel your balls, one of them would probably feel stiff, thick or in a weird position. For me the pain build up pretty quick. First it was annoying pain, like 3/10 and then within an hour it went to 10/10. You really cannot think about anything else anymore other than going to hospital. So if you dont have this extreme pain, it most likely isnt this, but let it check it anyways because it might be that you had a short torsion but it twisted itself back.

I m a medical student and this happened to me with the symptom of only extreme abdominal pain. Was misdiagnosed with a kidney stone as there was a small stone in the kidney as found in USG. the delay caused necrosis and removal of the testicle. Later life complications other than infertility as the senior urologist said that I will have testicular cancer so also get the remaining testicle removed after I have tried for the children. I hope this complication never happens to anyone even not to my enemies.

Had this when I was in middle school. Caught it early. Had surgery. It was corrected. No issues! Got 2 beautiful kids to prove it!

I just got my surgery done 2 days ago. I am so glad that it’s done and I don’t have to worry about it anymore. I have the bell clapper deformity but my case was different from most. One day I woke up and my left one was really hurting. It was the worst pain I had ever experienced and I couldn’t really walk. The testicle seemed to be slightly elevated and it was almost poking out of my pants. I went to school but a couple hours in I told my parents the pain was unbearable. I went to my pediatrician who examined it and told us to go to the ER. I went to the first ER where they gave me an ultrasound but when I laid down for the ultrasound the pain completely went away. This was four hours after the pain had started. I later inferred that this was when my testi naturally untwisted. Since I wasn’t feeling pain at the time of the ultrasound, they did not know what to do and sent me to another ER. There they confirmed it had been torsed and untorsed. Because there was blood flow to the testicle, I didn’t need emergency surgery. They still wanted me to get the surgery because I had a bell clapper. I wanted to wait it out until baseball was over and take the risk of it happening again, but get it done after baseball. Luckily, in the three weeks following I was fine and baseball finished up. I just got the surgery done and I’m feeling a little sore but overall pretty good. It is important to get this looked at if you experience pain and not wait. I was lucky but some people have to lose their testicle.

Y’know I could’ve went my whole life without knowing this, but now that I do, this has become one of my greatest fears 😭😭

i had this when i was 13 because i jumped off a table in school and landed unlucky. the pain came in waves and got stronger and stronger every hour. i was ashamed of telling my parents that i had pain in my balls so i waited very long until i told it. when the pain got insanely strong, my mom drove me to the hospital and they did emergency surgery the same evening. if i would have waited till next morning i would have lost one ball, the doctors told me. one of the most painful experiences in my life for sure. be careful with your balls boys.

great explanation........in my 35 years of prehospital practice I've dealt with two confirmed cases........both received IV pain relief and surgical correction...........one was 14 yrs the other 20.

My buddy in third grade got testicular torsion, i remember how he complained the whole day about is balls being in extreme pain. He later went to the doctor and the balls unscrewed themselves. So in the end it was all good for him.

Happened to me in the middle of the night last night. I actually thought I had appendicitis but my right testicle hurts so bad I couldn’t even touch it. I went to the bathroom at 2 AM and twisted it counterclockwise., and the pain immediately went from 10 to about 3. I was finally able to fall asleep and get comfortable. Today it’s still sore, but not nearly as bad as it was. Still gonna get checked.

To perform a testicular self-examination, grasp and roll the testicle between your thumbs and forefingers, feeling for lumps, swelling, hardness or other changes.

This has shown up in my recommendations. It was very useful for my Biomed revision.

Scary stuff. Glad it never happened to me but i know someone who was very unlucky.

I once UNtwisted my own testicle after twisting it while mountain biking. It does look weird, I had my right ball flattened in front and swollen on the sides. I untwisted it by twisting it to the side that hurt less. IT DID HURT, but right after finishing I felt sooo relieved.

It happened to me a few years ago my testicle swoll up to 2 times it size and because of the swelling they couldn't figure out if it was testicular torsion or something else. I had soul crushing pain for over a month. In the mean time i took pills for the swelling. When the swelling started to call down (this was a week after the fist pains started) i went to a different doctor who diagnose me with testicular torsion and declared that my right testicle was in necrosis the pain continued for the rest of the month like i said before it started to calm. The doctor said that there was no need of a surgery. For a few months after that i had periodic pains because my right testicle was like a tiny hard marble and after a few more visits to the doctor he decided that it would be better if i have the surgery the main reason was that apparently i was born without the tunica vaginalis so they had to also fixate the other tactical and remove the necrotic one. I was hit with hard depressions after that but with time and talk with close ones it has passed(only sharing this so people know they are not alone in this).

Both my brothers had this and it leaves me scared. Even worse, when my younger brother got it my mom was all about "oh he is just faking it" because my older brother only had it weeks before and my younger was all about faking being sick to skip school (like "having a cold" 40 times a year). My mom refused to drive him to the doctor for 2 weeks (we live in the country) and in the end he just walked 5 hours, the last one uphill because the hospital was build on a hill. They had him in the OP not half an hour later.

I had this at 15. I had Bell-Clapper so it was something recurrent. Of course I didn’t know. Some days my testicles hurt, but it usually lasted a while and then everything would go back to normal. Of course I didn’t say anything to my parents, nor investigated, I thought it was part of puberty 😂 But one day the pain didn’t go away. The first day the pain went to my abdomen, I got colitis. So I went to the hospital for that and didn’t mention anything about the testicle. I got the colitis fixed and went home. The testicle hurt a lot and it was rock hard. So I FINALLY decided to tell my mom. We went back to the local hospital. When the doctor saw me she was surprised of my state, right away I was put in an ambulance to go to a hospital that could do the cirgury. The problem was that before the cirgury they had to some initial checks and also do the ultrasound hahah so more hours in pain. I could barely walk and definetely not sit. It was a pain like if someone had hit your balls some minutes ago, but it didn’t go away. After confirming the torsion with the ultrasound they finally gave me a shot of something that aliviated the pain and I was put in a bed waiting for cirgury. The doctor that did the ultrasound was very clear that as it had lasted so long, it was going to be removed. Apparently, as the video says it can be saved if it is recent. Before going into cirgury another doctor came, and not sure what he was intending but he grabbed my testicle with his hand and either checked it or tried to twist it right there. I almost fainted, I wanted to hit him so bad, not sure why that was necessary while I was still awake. Finally got into cirgury and everything got fixed. Some hours after I was already home. And the recovery is super quick. Almost after a week I was already fine. The doctors never said Bell-Clappen but explained that the testicles wete not attached in place. Apparently they also corrected the other testicle, so it stays attached in place (does that have a name?). It worked because the other one has never given my a problem anymore. Some years after they contacted back saying they had implants. I didn’t want, but the doctor recommended it, and my mom also said I should, so I said yes. There are days where I prefer I had not, but it’s mostly just getting used to the implant, because it feels different (a bit hard) and looks a bit more small (another doctor said that they put me the wrong size haha) but whatever. I’m from Costa Rica, with social security, so we were not charged for anything (doctor checks, cirguries, implants, medicines, ambulance, painkillers) so I also know that there was no ill intention from the doctor recommending to put on the implant, they don’t gain anything extra, just more work 😂

Already had appendicitis and got my appendix removed, didn't know there was more abdomonal pain to be afraid of.

i had testicular torsion yesterday, the doctor fixed it before it almost died, now its another day and it still hurts, i went to the doc to see if its okay cuz i was worried and they said yes its okay its just sensitive so im just sitting/laying and chillin, and also i will have surgery in 2 weeks for fixation so it wont happen again

I went to a doctor when I was a kid because I had pain in my testicles. Doctor ran some tests and told be it’s common and it was simply growing pain, but he told me that if I were to every feel something different I should immediately speak out because it’s common for boys to have dead testicles by the time they build up the courage to speak up.

it happened to me when I was about 8 years old, I was playing football (goalkeeper) and when I was defending a shot, the ball hit my pelvis and i landed badly, hours later I was in the hospital emergency room with my right testicle stupidly swollen, It was a partial torsion of the testicle, I was in bed for 3 days until it started to deswell, if it hadn't started to improve on the 3rd day I would have had the surgery the next day

I had that when I was 16. Could barley walk at school, Too embarrassed to tell my Mother. Then my Father with his ignant ass, told me that I'd gotten something from some girl. Finally the pain was so bad my mother rushed me to the ER. Luckily our Family Dr happen to be there and fitted the problem. It happened again when I was 35. But now I knew how to untwist them.

I went to the hospital because I felt some mild pain in my right ball, it wasnt torsion. They said something about the vein that got swollen, this happened to me because I lift really heavy weights. And as some say,goes away when sitting down or laying down,the pain went away. But they said that there can be some surgery done to "prevent" this so it can happen less. Still havent done it but surely will one day

happened 3 TIMES! had to get surgery like 2 weeks ago and they made them unable to do another torsion and they said they would ove actually needed to do it on the second time but they werrent sure about the first time.

Happened with me recently during mine exams when i woke up i felt little bit pain but after half an hour the pain was intense and one inexperienced doctor just gave me pain killers and then a day later i went to dr they recommended me ultrasound and thereafter diagnosed with torsion we rushed immediately to urologist he told to operate in morning and we skipped it because we trusted our relatives and they actually healed me but it was short term relief and we waited for another 24 hours and finally next day i went for surgery and dr. somehow preserved my testicles but mine operated testicle wont work normally as told by doctor and I accepted it. Its been 3 weeks my body accepted the testicles and doctor suggested not to remove instead to keep and heal. Thanks for reading till here and if you want to know more then let me know.

Can a vericocele turn into a torsion? because I have had been diagnosed with a vericocele for about 3 months now. But just recently I've noticed my left testicle has gone horizontal a little is that a possible sign of a torsion because i don't have any signs signs of a torsion besides the horizontal testicle, and flare ups from vericocele. Thanks for your imput.

I've had this happen to me about 15 years ago, it was the most painful thing I've experienced, more-so than passing a kidney stone (which I had passed one a couple months ago). I ended up having surgery and the doctor had to tie the 2 testes together due to the lack of tissue to tie it to.

Not every testicular torsion comes with intense pain. I experienced testicular torsion two times. My first torsion was unbelievably painful, got morphine pumped into me every 10 minutes once the ambulance arrived. My second torsion though was pretty tolerable - unfortunately. So the second time I was sure it couldn’t be a torsion. Dead wrong! Luckily I still got surgery done in the right time. Be careful: Not every torsion is characterized by intense pain! Visit the doc immediately, and don't risk your balls!

I just got out of the ER after testicular torsion. I got tackled playing football and felt 8/10 lower left stomach pain. My testicle didn’t even hurt at that time. The ER discharged me after catscans of my stomach said nothing was wrong. The next day my left testicle started hurting 10/10. Went to a DIFFERENT ER, started this time by saying my testicle hurt and got immediately diagnosed with testicular torsion and they rushed me into surgery. Currently recovering at home but should be fine. If your having any testicle or stomach pain that is unexplained you need to definitely emphasize to the ER people to check for testicular torsion. If I had just listened to the first ER id probably have 1 testicle right now or be infertile

Happened to me when I was 5 months old, lost the little guy, doctors fixed the other one to the scrotum to prevent the same in the remaining one.

Testicular torsion is no joke. This used to happen to me in my early 20's quite frequently. Still does in my 40's but much less frequent (about twice a year). It is the most painful thing I have ever experienced next to having my knee joint go out of place. I never knew what this was until later years. But I did have a feeling of what was causing the pain, so I learned how to untwist the ball back to its place. It's usually not that difficult and you can tell when it's back where it's supposed to be. There is almost instant relief, and the swollen cords deflate in a second. I never had to go to the doctor for this. You can fix it yourself.

I've had intermittent testicular torsion. It happened after running on a tredmill for 30 plus minutes as I felt this pain in my left nut increasing. By the time I had walked back to my house (I lived by my gym at the time), I was nearly bent over in pain as I could feel it from my back and abs down to my groin region. I was lucky it went away and promptly had a hot nurse ultrasound my balls the next day. 3/10 would not go through again.

This happened to me on Sunday… I’ve had this happen to me many times and I play basketball. I’m guessing I untwisted it many times throughout my career and I didn’t tell nobody cause I thought it was a “ball cramp”. But this time it legit felt like someone was stabbing me many times in the stomach I tried to go to work and take a customer order and I was legit slouched on the counter, the pain was unbelievably intense. I called my mom to pick me up and it just kept hurting and she rushed me to the ER where they did a check on it, they did a check using gel (I forgot what it was called) and they came back and they had a physician trying to untwist but sadly he couldn’t. So they told us to go to another hospital to do my surgery. I thank god they were able to get it in time and this was all in one day. Now it does hurt when I close my legs together to walk but I try to not make it known when walking. But that’s my story

I'm wondering if i might have this. My right testicle is ascended a bit but doesn't hurt other then a weird feeling i get sometimes when i have to poop or when its really cold. Also i have a near constant soreness in my lower right back that i think might be related. Anyone know anything about this that could help?

Could it be testicular torsion if I have a weird feeling in my right testicle? It doesn't hurt that much but just feels weird. But when I move my right testicle a little here and there with my hands, the right side of my abdomen kinda hurts mildly. This has been going on for 1 week now.

Ive got my left ball on a horizontal position but i feel no pain... Is it normal?

2 years back while running I felt abnormal pain in my left testis after I came to my home I saw my left testis is bigger than another. It was discomfort, position also Changed. I didn't know what to do because my parents weren't at home I couldn't bear with pain. I didn't tell to my parents about it. I had 2 or 3 days severe pain after that I had no pain. I didn't vomit as well. Still I feel discomfort while running. i have no pain on testis but i have pain in lower back pain. Is this testicular torsion or what?
