Could there be better ways to teach the love for reading in schools other than, “read this-we will test you”? Books like The Neverending Story must enter a life invited. You gave us many good reasons to bring this guest home.

Learning that the storylines are different between the movie and book inspired me to buy this book. My favourite books as a child were the Folk of the Faraway Tree series. I loved the characters and the magical places they visited at the top of the tree. The power of a story to transport you to another world is pretty magical too. I will never be too old to enjoy that.

Hello KarenB, Thank you for sharing your thoughts. Yes indeed, there are some important differences between the movie and the book. The movie was what is called an adaptation of the book. I like both version, however the book brings so much more depths and makes much more sense to me. Thank you for sharing your favourite child books. I just looked up the author Enid Blyton. I wish you a nice day 🌟📚📖🌟😊

you move me to read de book again..! now im 56 and read it when i was 22... so is very much necessary to take a second look at it!. BTW: I believe that one remembers books that resonate deeply with oneself... Reading (as a chosen activity) is a moment of deep communion with oneself, a moment in which we are authentically ourselves, we do not run the risk of being repressed or censored, that is why some books, when they resonate with us, confront us with ourselves. They show us who we authentically are, even if we don't know/see it at that particular moment. I recommend this science fiction book, from Theodore Sturgeon "More Than Human".

This video led me to reflect on high school literature courses when I was 13-17 years of age. Required reading in those years opened up the world of books for me, and shaped my interests as a reader. Early favorites included The Hobbit, Fahrenheit 451, Animal Farm and Of Mice and Men. I sometimes reread books I loved as a teen, and the spark of what kindled my interest long ago returns. My tastes in reading are not what they were, but peering into my past now and then is fun. Thank you for reminding me to take this brief journey through my recollections.

The best of children’s literature can be equally enjoyed as an adult. Thank you for reminding me if this story. I will have to read it again.

Hi Barth, What was your favourite book or story when you were a child?

I have yet to experience The Neverending Story, but I would suggest another novel, by the same author, titled "Momo". To me, it is a fine story, made for children, that every adult should read, and I am afraid it oftentimes does not get the recognition it also deserves.

Hi @cekan14, yes momo is another story I grew up with. Unfortunately I don't remember the full story anymore. I think I saw a movie adaptation. Thank you for reminding me. I should definitely read it. I wish you a nice day, Lieven
