Years ago, Paul Bearer told a story about Hulk Hogan faking a neck injury at Survivor Series 1991 when The Undertaker beat him for the WWE title, only, his head came nowhere close to hitting the mat on the Tombstone finish. Undertaker finally shared his version of the story with ESPN and Solomonster explains things in detail and why the incident could have derailed Undertaker's career before it even really started. Yet another in a long list of tall tales from the Hulkster.

That’s just proof positive that Hogan knew who to pull that bullshit on. I mean Andre used to shove his massive thumb up the butts of new guys and he did that to Hogan repeatedly because he thought it was funny. Hogan said nothing. Hogan legitimately tore his arm muscle lifting Andre at Mania 3. Hogan said nothing. Then the new face comes in and he’s hot. You are scared your spot is in jeopardy and he takes care of you in the ring and you whine like a bitch. That’s why I was, am and always will be a Warrior guy. At least he was an asshole to everyone and didn’t lie about injury. Hogan was a smile in your face and stab your back kinda guy. That’s snake shit, and I hate snake shit.

This is why Hogan made the perfect heel years later. He simply dropped the “good guy” act and began portraying himself as he really was backstage and in real life. The guy was a slime ball plain and simple and it made for a compelling heel character that you wanted to see get his ass handed to him.

The only Tombstone that I've ever seen where the person taking the move was more protected was when Kane Tombstoned Linda McMahon. That Tombstone was done up on the stage. Linda's head missed the floor by probably two feet. I certainly don't blame Kane for not wanting to paralyze the boss's wife. Hogan's full of crap.

I wonder if Kane and Taker like versing people with longer hair in comparison to short when it comes to the tombstone. Being a Detroiter and this event taking place in Detroit I would like to shed a little more context on the situation. At this time the paralyzed Detroit Lion player Mike Utley was a HUGE story in the local news. Every day on the news the lead the story was about him and any possible updates to his condition, so the thought of neck injuries and paralyses was at the forefront of many Detroit fans. So Hogan feigns a neck injury in front of an audience that just saw a local football player days earlier literally almost die because of a spinal cord injury, pretty classless imo but he did it because spinal injuries were fresh in our minds with Mike Utley and we knew "first hand" the potential dangers of them so by him faking that injury in front of that particular market it would be more likely you would catch the crying or concerned fans in the crowd which in turn would lead to fans watching on TV being more concerned. There's not a doubt in my mind that Hogan came up with this whole plan after visiting Mike Utley in the hospital and seeing all the attention he was getting there and throughout the Detroit area.(there were billboards everywhere supporting him) Just like how Hogan had to try to steal the spotlight from Warrior by handing him the belt and making sure the spotlight was on him while he rode the ring cart to the back this was his way to make sure the focus was still on him in defeat to the Undertaker. Fans would be more worried about the health of Hulk Hogan than they would the actual outcome of the match.

Right on, I lived in northern Michigan at that time, and that's all we talked about at school, and was on the news up there. I'd just finished my first year of high school football mere weeks before Utley's injury, and we had one of our players carted off on a backboard, his entire uniform cut off with scissors, in the first game of the season. So, it hit close to home for us. It became national news, even garnering a spot on ABC News, with his "Thumbs Up" gesture, and the Lions rallying around him. What a piece of shit Hogan was and is.

I was never ever a big fan of Hulk Hogan as I always thought he was overrated nor was I ever a fan of his backstage antics, I have big respect for what he has done for the business and playing a big role in putting wrestling on the map but as a person not so much and to hear him try to sabotage a young Undertaker's big push just further cements my dislike for Hulk Hogan even more so than ever before. This for me is the big difference between Undertaker and Hulk Hogan, Undertaker was always a true company guy who would always look after the talent and help bring them to the next level while never having any problems with putting them over, Hulk Hogan on the other hand would always want to keep the spotlight to himself and bury lots of guys. Undertaker as a person is a real first class act and a true legend while Hulk Hogan himself is a true legend but as a person, he is one of the most selfish guys in the business.
@MR.__G
@MR.__G 3 года назад
Agree with everything you said. So overrated... The worst part is, he was completely avg as a wrestler. It would make a lot more sense if he was actually great in the ring & acted the way he did, but that wasn’t the case. I simply don’t see what’s the big deal in terms of his ring work. Taker could’ve easily held the title more times than he did, but he wasn’t selfish.

Most of Hogan's lies are harmless. At worst they make him look like an egomaniac, at best they make him look delusional. Inflating Andre's weight, claiming that he didn't know whether or not Andre would let him win or not, potentially being a member of Metallica, wrestling a 36-hour day or something. It's all mostly just kind of comical. But every once in a while you hear a story like this...and it's not funny. It's spiteful. It's actually really fucking _cruel._ Undertaker at 26, new guy to the company still, must've been shitting a brick. And not just 'because his spot was in danger' but because he felt like he'd seriously injured another human being, a co-worker he probably held in some esteem, because he was a clumsy worker. And knowing from the Last Ride series that 'Taker _isn't_ immune to self-doubt imagine what that must've done to him at 26-years old. No wonder he was pissed at Hogan. As I say, Hogan's lies have become legendary at this point. Most of them are funny. But every once in a while you hear one like this that makes you think...what a piece of shit.
@adamdesanti6713

Totally the same. I always laughed at the embellishments and what not. But then the ones where you hear about him spitefully keeping guys down and sabotaging their careers I just shake my head. I think Vince McMahon didn't add Undertaker in the mix between Bret vs HBK because Undertaker was in a middle of the feud with Kane. I don't know why Undertaker wasn't on the match card at Survivor Series, but Vince should've added a triple-threat match between Taker vs HBK vs Bret. Have Taker pin HBK, so that Bret won't take the pin. Taker can drop the title to HBK at the Royal Rumble. That would've been a solution. Surely Bret would've agreed to it, probably just as long HBK don't walk out of Montreal as WWE champion. Bret did stated that he was willing to drop the title to Ken Shamrock, or the Undertaker at Survivor Series, but Vince rejected that idea.

I understand it from both view points I understand it from the Undertaker perspective. But from Hogan’s perspective if y’all seen Undertaker’s earliest matches, the Tombstone was pretty rough and brutal back then because Taker was dropping people on their heads all the time. I bet you if Hogan seen that Tombstone once, he wouldn’t want to take it because he was the biggest draw in the company and if he gotten hurt then it would affected everyone’s pay back then. Watch undertaker doing the tombstone during that time period it was bad. Also it’s back then it wasn’t the same Undertaker we all know today and love today; He was just a this guy named Mark that just came into the company and only be wrestling for a few years and you putting him in the ring to protect a veteran like hogan who been in the business for a very long period.

Typical hulk hogan he's truly one of a kind and he's right A triple Threat match at survivor series would have made more sense have taker pin shawn or shawn pins taker problem solved

wow I didn't knew he was that young so let's see the youngest champions up until Randy Orton it was Undertaker 26, Yokozuna 26, The Rock 26, Brock Lesnar 25, and finally Randy Orton 24 we haven't had a younger World Champion in WWE since 2004.

I can understand them wanting Shawn to be the guy to pin Bret. It was shitty what happened but Shawn was the guy at the time and Bret was leaving.

I remember watching an interview with Hogan and, if he was legitimate, a man of the church where he claimed he was so hurt by the tombstone that night that his shoulders were up around his neck for over a week and he only left the hospital when he did because his wife saw the doctors were milking him for as much money as they could with tests he didn't need

We all know that saying "save the best for last" a great leader listens to every opinion before calling the shot , in this case undertaker let everyone from that era "shoot out rage" don't seem like the type that did drugs kept cool and come across as an honest person 30 years later he still going for us the children and I say children is because we're like a 4 yr old who gets pushed on the swing 2-3× and then awe when the old man needs to check on the BBQ my point is let the man check the damn BBQ and enjoy his TIME . And as for Hogan that part about him tossing and turning in McMahon office is a P.O.S thing to do and the final nail in the coffin for me to give a shit I don't think much of him making returns and from the crowd reactions sounds like the fans don't either because we all know it's business for him . He said inappropriate things on footage and apologize but would he of done so if it wasn't recorded please . I was born in 92 and feel bad for those growing up at the time being deceived by his heroic looks and his selfish sole I know I'm off subject now but I can't help it because I never liked the Gramps but this is the story that finally pulled the hate trigger.

So whiplash is not a thing because we hate hulk hogan. Takers new to the tombstone, it’s the big stage with biggest guy. Maybe when hogan got some whiplash. It’s not like Hogan is professional Wrestlers who’s taken bumps. He worked Japan a lot. He took bumps. Physics don’t stop because you don’t like someone.
