I think the interesting part is how at first player character wants to fight, provoking Sans by stepping closer, but every fight after that Sans is the one initiating combat.

Thats kinda the goal Sans knows the resets and how much times you have played the game So he trys to kill you to reset the game and go on a peace run where you spare every one thats why he says "guess i am pretty good at my job"
@@inksans9700 Yes exactly! Well except for Sans doesn't really care if you kill people (well he does morally) but his main concern is the world being erased. "everything just stops." He doesn't really understand why or how, but he's got a pretty good hunch it could occur sometime after the human completes their eradication campaign, so he steps in. I find it really interesting. Sans is implied to be a scientist, so differing from Flowey, all his knowledge of resets, saves, timelines, and the world being erased is built on scientific guesses/hypotheses instead of absolute certainty. Well thats the in game lore anyway, really toby was probably like, "I need a character that kind of calls you out" but he can't be as antagonistic as flowey. Also hi I'm a dog." Or something like that

yeah I even decided to get it on my own run by killing sans and close the game without saving. therefore I would be confronted with sans again who would remember his own death. he says a different thing until the second time you do it.
I actually loved fighting sans (you can tell by my username) so back then i kept beating sans, but before killing him i quit and come back. i just skipped the dialogue didn't even know it changed
Sans is such a cocky bastard I love him! seems likes he's again speaking more to the player to make you feel bad about being a horrible person and going through with this
I just think he knows how rage-inducing battles like his can be. He gets the feeling you're mad at him and he decides to mock you and your rage at every opportunity.
He deadass said "oh wait somethings not right, oh yeah, you don't have any friends" (probably not completely accurate but I'm just going on memory but that was actually badass lol)
That's literally his plan. He knows full wrll you can just come back again and again. So he literally tries to taunt you and be so unfair that you give up.

I like how Sans is fully aware that you're messing with timelines, and even though you can erase him from existence in a few seconds he still goes out of his way to insult you. Incredible writing.
i love how much they play up the fact he's trying to force the player to give up the game or atleast try a more merciful route. He does warn you about what happens if you dont stop. Given what happens to playthroughs if you win a full genocide route ....

I like that it's a neat meta quirk about the game but it also doubles as an anti frustration feature, essentially skipping Sans' monologue more and more so you can get back to the fight quicker
Imagine you see every person you like die, the human who did this all finally comes, but he looks extremely frustrated with you. I love how Sans doesn’t remember anything, he simply knows that he defeated you multiple times by looking at your face, and that he will do it again until you give up.

I’ts funny that after you die 12 times, he says “let’s just get the point”. I just love that he doesn’t want to talk to you anymore and just wants to make you suffer even more. And it also shows that Sans and Chara/Frisk remember different timelines.

maybe the reason why sans doesn't say anything after 12 is because he's starting to lose hope, prefering not to know how close you are to learn his atacks or how far you're starting to get. After all, imagine knowing how many times the person you've killed has come back, eventually it would just be depressing because you know that your dead will soon be close too
