The soul gimmicks in this game are so goddamn UNIQUE, and they do it all without ever actually changing the color of your soul, too. This fight is probably one of my favourites and it has a damn good theme too.
the soul mechanics are PERFECT the slippery soul, the lasso'd soul, even the trashcan lid soul! ok maybe not the trashcan soul, axis was a bitch- and WOW is the dash with the true yellow soul so cool i think thats all the soul types tho? i believe theres only 4..? edit: ok ive been informed theres more soul types guys- u can stop replying with them.. rythm soul exists, cool, that fight was hell on my first run and im glad that in neutral/geno u dont need that soul mode TECHNICALLY stunned soul exists, but thats literally just a stun mechanic i dont see it as a soul type
@@BlueCheeseTheCoolCheese slippery was fine because it was a random encounter but i agree, trashcan soul felt more rewarding and fun but the slippery soul was easier to manage; axis was just a really hard boss right after guardener who was already hard
Starlo is a character that I honestly truly feel sorry for. All he wanted was to prove himself how he can be a hero but his selfishness and recklessness causes him to lose everything he once had. This theme perfectly portrays a sheriff’s last stand hoping to fix his actions but is still unsure of the results.
"Sorry pal, but can we make amends?" "Shut up Mooch, I'll kill you" "Why can't we just talk it out?" "Not this time Cer' " I feel stupid writing this 01/11/24 edit: THIS COMMENT DID *NOT* DESERVED THIS AMOUNT OF LIKES💀
genuinely took me like 3 turns to make him shoot the lasso and i felt SO proud making him do it, i havent felt that good outsmarting an enemy in a game in years
Starlo: Stay still! I don't wanna hit my lasso! "winks" Clover: ... Starlo: I mean, really, don't move at all! You don't want me to hit my lasso and free you, do you? "winks" Clover: ... Starlo: Okay, now JUST don't TRY TO put my lasso under fire... "I UNDERSTOOD STOP SHOOTING IN THE DIRECTION OPPOSITE TO WHERE I MOVE!!!"
What I got from Starlo's storyline is the simple message that it is great to enjoy your passions and hobbies, but you should be sure not to let them negatively impact your relationships. Blackjack (the gun shop owner) even says in some of his dialogue that what Starlo and his gang are doing to pass the time is harmless fun (before grouching that no, actually, he finds their behavior annoying) - that felt like a direct message to the player that spending their time on something that isn't "important" isn't a bad thing - just make sure you aren't losing friends over it. There's also a bit in there about using such hobbies to cope with stressful situations - Starlo and gang do all this in part to keep their minds off of the imprisonment of the monsters, and the game isn't really judging them for that. Ceroba even seems to envy their relatively carefree attitude to some degree. Appropriate message in a fangame designed mainly for the hardcore fans of a 9 year old indie game living and coping in this crazy world. It isn't saying that you shouldn't care about the world's problems, just saying that it is okay to step back from them and focus on personal happiness too, and that you shouldn't feel ashamed for having some fun.
I genuinely hoped he was the "sans" Like seeing him waiting for you And saying "Howdy...clover i have one question for ya" "Do you think hunting us down n' shooting us will bring back them back? Or is this just some twisted viginalte justice of yours?" "Im also here to bring justice to every single life you took to ever family you destroy" "Hah how am i kidding we are both not looking for justice we are looking for vengeance" "Wow its already noon Enough with the chatting then lets cut to the point" (Act: North star atc 10 def 16 *Lets show him what a real duel looks *This world aint big enough for the both of us
@rayanderouiche2730 that's actually a decent idea since we never got a real full length fight with the four. Not to mention how them and starlo would go way harder since their lives are on the line. Plus a sorta "boss rush" battle where you've gotta kill a ton of enemies one after the other in rapid succession has never really been done before, undertale-style at least.
Star and Ceroba have the strongest character designs in the game. Star has a star-shaped head cuz he's a western sheriff, who wore star-shaped badges - one of those examples of a character being the thing they are based on. And Ceroba is a Fox in traditional Japanese attire to reference the Kitsune, a Japanese Fox legend that would trick people and had mystical powers, it's cool when Undertale has actual monsters as monster characters in it. One is Western-inspired and one is Eastern-inspired, the two are literally polar opposites.
They arnt really polar opposites. Western movies usually have alot of inspirations from samurai movies, and samurai movies from westerns. they share alot of similarities due to this, hence why Ceroba despite being eastern inspired fits a western town seamlessly.
The Feisty Five are also have a minor playing card motif, Starlo still fits that as there exists a variation of the typical playing cards called Stardeck, which adds a fifth suit being the Star, represented as both red and black.
Justice is literally Clover's soul trait. Of course a spaghetti western would have all these heroic leitmotifs in it. What usually ends in justice paid to a bad guy? A showdown of course! Except this is a little different.
"Ten paces" At this moment, both Clover and Starlo started walking in different directions. However, having no idea of why should he play this scenario, Clover turns around early and raises his gun, preparing to shoot down the so-called sheriff. "Starlo! Wait!" Ceroba jumps in front of Clover, taking the deadly shot in the body. Shocked by such turn of events, Starlo catches his friend, and she falls in his hands. "Ceroba... No..." "Starlo... I knew you would confront the human... I knew, you would be stubborn enough..." "It's all my fault... It's all my fault, it's because of my recklessness, and my selfishness you are wounded!" "It's not your fault... Don't worry about me..." "..." "Do what is right... For everyone... Please... Go and..." Ceroba dies, while turning into dust. "It... Can't be..." Starlo stands up, broken and concerned. "Do... What's right?" He raises his head, looking and Clover. "Whoever you are, partner - an outlaw, a mass murderer, or even something worse. I'll do what's right, and stop you right here. Just stand... STILL!"
* The Sherif appears * * Gunpowder and Death * * Only one will prevail * * End of the line * * Justice * * No hope * * Last Stand * * Bullet time* * Retribution * * Something terrible is coming * With his last breath, Starlo starts firing like crazy. * The last shoot... * HP Starlo fall to 0 He starts crying. "I-i failed you. At least I fight until the e-end... S-see you soon S-seroda..." He turned into dust.
@@Stephan_Is_Real I mean,Starlo does a Sans-tier fight, and clover in the end clutches out, grab the gun,and quickly kills Starlo. Then,a semi cutscene-special where the fiesty five start attacking while panicking, while you start killing them one by one
the new "soul modes" like this fight's lasso and axis' trash can lid were super creative and awesome... but they also served to make the eventual moment that i'd been waiting for the whole game, the yellow soul's shooting mechanic coming back in ceroba's fight, THAT MUCH MORE HYPE
And the ABOMINATION's and Zenith Martlet's. You get the pew pew (plus the [[BIG SHOT]] from Deltarune) on any route's final fight (Asgore doesn't count because you can't win)
this song legit has two leitmotifs starlo's motif, and "justice" that's it, the other melodies aren't exactly leitmotifs they only appear for this one song a mother's love meanwhile is laughing in having 8 leitmotifs (but then again that one is three tracks combined into one so)
My favorite part of the entire game was the wild east. I loved every single character on that village, and stars' shenanigans always made me giggle. The whole deal with ceroba and the feisty five also, man that section was good.
Bro imagine if the Patient soul was the one to come across the Wild East, like what are chances that the Cowboy character comes across the guy who really REALLY *REALLY* likes cowboys
Oh man, imagine how much it would take for the patient kid to lose their patience during the genocide route, like one enemy or boss is mocking them so much to the point where they finally snap and start slicing them viciously with their toy knife like a savage, thus giving into violence, it would be cathartic but also scary as this is what happens when a nice person is pushed to their absolute limit.
Yes, it would be funny that the patient soul, the light blue one who doesn't have anything to do with western would go in the western part instead of the justice and yellow one.
I grew up watching westerns, own a full set of cowboy outfit, ride horses often and used to just ride into the sunset Man this character felt so real, he just wants to be a fun cool cowboy, even if everything might stand agaisnt him, its delusional but its helped him somewhat, lovely character, great boss fight and great music, 5 star
Holy shit, same! I also have a full cowboy outfit, really close to what Arthur's Gunslinger outfit looks like. I have my own made hat tho. And me being ugly makes me a ugly yet kind gunslinger.
@now_i_know_whats_a_handle i feel as if he'd play engie normally to keep with his cowboy theme and just sucks ass at playing engie, but once in a while he switches to soldier and mops the floor with everyone
I love how from 1:31 - 1:42 , this section feels off, and out of place, almost like it shows Star’s true feelings about the battle - He doesn’t want to do it, but feels like he has to, which is why this part is so wobbly and different. It could also show his mental wellbeing’s deterioration, as at this point he’s convinced himself that CLOVER is the problem, CLOVER is the one that ruined his life, not himself. This part of the song paired with Starlo’s betrayed, teary-eyed-look really shows a different side of the story to what we plainly see. Amazing!!
@@clawcakes2i think both should have had fights but the most fitting place to have it would be feisty five and then ceroba,so two really hard boss fights back to back, which sounds like hell
whoever has the idea to make the 3 notes from cowboy movies an actual theme/leitmotif of a character is so genius, whoever actually compose this song is also very good at the execution because I haven't think before that those 3 notes could even be a battle music and not just cool winds anticipation thing
The perfect music for the silliest sheriff. This area had an incredible set of characters, introduced us to the main plot and also had THE GOAT of this town.
nah nothing changes in pacifist i dont think, and in genocide starlo (spoilers)@@Stimpaec doesnt have the guts to kills you and shoots you with a bb gun and dies, then you fight ceroba
What I like about this theme is how it near-perfectly contrasts Martlet's battle theme, prior. Martlet's battle theme sounds WAY more serious than the battle itself. But here, the theme sounds WAY more lighthearted while the battle itself IS serious.
The boss fights are the standout features of Undertale Yellow. Each theme and mechanic is tailor made to fit their boss monster so perfectly that they single-handedly elevate my love of the characters more than anything else in the game. This composition is a masterwork in musical storytelling, painting a picture of the fight with each instrument as its brushstrokes. I imagine each crack of the whip, a reminder of the lasso binding you. Each crash of the cymbals, a shot he's making on your life. The waver midway through, his conviction loosening its grip on him. He momentarily lets his unwillingness to inflict pain on this child he called deputy slip out. Then, immediately, we're back to an energetic beat as he is reminded everything he's fighting for and and the joy it'll bring him when this mess is taken care of. Undertale Yellow tells the story of characters seeking justice for the wrongs committed against them and hoping that someone brings them to justice for the sins on their backs. This fight and its theme sells Starlo's conviction when he's at rock bottom. He's not using rubber bullets anymore, his fingers twitch the entire way through as he itches for his six shooter. He's eager to eliminate what he has erroneously deemed a problem: the human that he thinks drove him to his lowest low. Showdown! is far and away my favorite boss fight theme in the entire soundtrack because it sells the justice this otherwise goofy guy playing hero is looking for: a misaligned justice that will fix who he is now and bring him back to a past that only holds pangs of nostalgia. I cannot express my respect for MasterSwordRemix and this incredible composition enough.
I really hoped that Starlo (And the Feisty Five) would be a bigger threat in Genocide... instead of Ceroba AGAIN. Like, we already got the big moment for Ceroba, it tied up her story arc and she was the conclusion of the entire True Pacifist route. But in Genocide, she just attacks you because... angry. It doesn't tie anything up, it's not a conclusion to anything, and it's just "One of the Genocide bossfights". It would make a whole lotta sense if Ceroba's Genocide fight to be replaced with either just Starlo or just the entire Feisty Five. Starlo is this game's Undyne basically, has a normal battle in Pacifist, and... oh wait, he doesn't have the heroic and sort-of story related battle in Genocide. Starlo could maybe Dual-Wield guns, and the other 4 could switch in often and team-up to fight you with noticeably harder attacks (And the clumsy and cute member of the Five wouldn't stumble when running to fight you, lol). It would just be so many times better
@@justusP9101 I still feel like her story fit in Pacifist, and I like her also. I just feel like she's getting TOO much attention with having a big epic fight in Genocide rather than keeping her epic fight in Pacifst.
Starlo is a nerd who larps as a sheriff, ofc he wouldnt be an obstacle to a seasoned killer. The only other person in the area i could imagine being secretly powerful is ace and maybe ed to a lesser extent
i LOVE this fight so much. the lasso, the EVERYTHING. i restarted the game after i realized i messed up the chance to get the gold stuff. i ended up using the sea tea during this fight and oh my GOD i love the added detail of the soul speed buff making his slow motion attacks a breeze..
@@spencerhaveman4117 yeah… someone on the other video, said the same thing for Cerobi, almost word for word. It’s… ugh. If it WAS someone else, I’m convinced they copied them.
1:30 Just realizing this part sounds quite alot like Ceroba's song Blossom. Think this really shows how deeply Starlo appreciates Ceroba playing along with his silly antics.
Having the song start on a whip is one of the most unique things to happen in an Undertale boss battle theme. Hats off (and then back on because we're battling!)
Killing Axis to fail a Pacifist run makes Ceroba comment on Clover's SOUL not being pure any more. Ceroba won't join you even after a single kill in the Dark Ruins, so she probably recognizes how much EXP Clover has. So if you kill Starlo here, and she seems to not realize what happened to him... she probably recognizes that SOMETHING changed about Clover.
She's more preoccupied on finding where starlo went to continue her plan. It's actual pretty sweet that she drops her whole plan to find his only friend.
at first i didnt like this song that much because it didnt seem to fit the mood, but i lost so many times here the song is basically stuck in my head now, and ive realized this is perfect in every way, starlo is playing a character even during the fight, sure he may have realized the character hes putting up is very flawed and people have noticed that, yet hes still playing his little sheriff game even when trying to deal with a real issue, so lost in his facade he fails to recognize hes the problem and accept his mistakes god i love this character so much
i think North Star(Starlo) is the best character in game. When they first introduced feisty five thought they are gonna beat the /*-s out of me and was a just normal boss fight but then then North Star started introducing Clover to town and became so friendly nah that guy is my favorite character ın Undertale Yellow. Also writing is too good. Starlo is so friendly but also realistic. When we abort Pacifist run he is not like: "well you beat my years old friendship and friend. You turned 'em to dust. But idc! You my bestie now!" He actually acts like a person. Also he is a bit like Sans that everbody loves. He just wants some fun and friendship. And a new partner
I like how the song shifts from being serious to being slightly more light hearted at a few parts. It represents Star extremely well in the sense that he doesn't truly want to hurt you.
I like the Game Over leitmotif that just goes around at 1:09 Really nice touch, as they’re both justice filled, like how Asgore plays the game over Theme in Undertale. Surprised barely anyone talked about that.
something kind of underrated that i noticed is that undertale yellow ost is kind of consistently LONGER! than most undertale songs that go up to a min, its a minor thing but it makes so good songs dont repetitive even when you love them (i still love undertale songs btw it was just a nitpick)
This battle, I loved the SOUL gimmicks. But this took the cake. I also love how you have to outsmart Star here by making him shoot his own lasso, it was tough, but really fun. Too bad he doesn't fight you on "justice" route.
Agree on everything. Starlo has no right to judge us after this stupid fight. He acts like such an asshole + he's tring to kill us. Again, why can't he just capture us when he literally has a cell!
Fun fact: remember that "wild west" jingle that makes up this song's theme as well as every other wild west scene everywhere? Turns out, that actually comes from the main theme of the movie "The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly".
Starlo in geno: I couldn’t bring myself to kill this rampant murderer Starlo in pacifist: I DONT CARE IF YOUR ONLY CRIME IS EXISTING! EAT THESE BULLETS BI-
Despite my constant skill issues during Star's fight, I am so damn glad I got to listen to this... I would've lost my mind if it wasn't for this absolute banger of a theme.
The CRINGE Starlo : bald, gets folded by Ceroba, can fire a revolver 6 times before having to reload The CHAD Clover : Has hair, doesn't get 1 tapped by Ceroba, can fire a revolver 8 times before having to reload.
This part of the game was so special, i love the town changing up after every mission with starlo. Poor martlet though, at least you get to visit her in jail periodically 😅
He ended up getting Toriel-ed by accident several times as I tried shooting him with glass ammo to heal. My greed and refusal to use healing items has led to his demise.
When you really think about it, considering what this man went through in the past couple minutes, the melody for this theme sounds kinda sad. Especially in the middle.
I love the fact that starlo blames all his problems on clover even tho clover just wanted to pass through the town and didnt say anything(except in some parts in the saloon)
Picture this: You do the genocide route. You get to the duel with starlo. You shoot him like usual. He falls to the ground except this time Ceroba doesn't run up to him. Starlo gets up off the ground. "Nice shot partner, but..." "You're gonna have to try a little harder than THAT." Fight starts with a Showdown! remix playing in the background Perfection.
This character made me feel so sad for him. Even though it’s fake both the original Undertale and this game will never make me kill a monster because I get too attached to them(my first run right now is a pacifist)
I think the neutral ending is worth playing at some point. (destroying a random robot in the Steamworks will put you on neutral without giving you any EXP lol)
Best song in Undertale Yellow, ABSOLUTELY no question, no contest, by a long shot. And there are some absolute bangers in this games. But this reigns supreme.
