Many time have I wished there was a way to scout what the environment looks like underwater without actually having to get the dive gear set up and jump in. And even more times have I wanted to see what the bottom looks like beyond the diving depths I feel safe going to. This could be the answer to my wishes. Meet Nemo, an underwater drone capable of diving to 100m, in freezing water, and stay down for 3hrs, while operated using my phone.

As someone who loves your channel, And someone who has multiple channels that have been growing fast....the Algarithm nolonger favors creators that post once a week. If you dont upload at least 5 videos a week your channel will continue to get unfavored results. Just dont want to see you give up. I have been doing this for 13 months and have a total of 210k subs and Have worked with folks who work at youtube....so Please keep creating.....just more often. You guys have helped so many, I hope you never give up

Thanks for the support. Our problem is unfortunately that we have to make sure we can survive in the process and that comes from doing other projects as well. We love what this channel has become and the positive feedback we have been getting back from the community. We will keep it up. But with kids to feed and everything we just can't risk putting all we have into it. Of course we want to see the channel grow even more but we also want to make sure our nature and wildlife documentation grows as well, to do what we can to share our passion for the natural world. No external filters to put on the camera. But some different electronic settings. Mostly white balance then.

There must be better products that are less fiddly. Looks like it needs more development...

Honestly, I still haven't found any. There are a few UW drones that are very similar with slight differences but not necessarily less fiddly. Pros and cons with every solution I guess. But at the moment the big differences will include media storage and offload, and how to operate the unit. The cord will always be necessary and therefore also a way to reel it in and out.Plus, apparently the cord can stand a pulling force of about 100kg (more than 200Lb) so it can take a lot even if you have to pull the drone out of a situation. Regarding the media storage part. We have shot a fair bit of underwater video stuff and also ruined cameras worth a lot of money due to salt water. Dumping footage from this unit may seem a bit difficult but the fact that it can't really get ruined by salt is kind of awesome.

Well. That is probably a bit exaggerated. It just needs to be cooled down while offloading the memory card. So half of the Nemo has to be in water. The other thing is, I do a lot of diving and whatever you put in saltwater you will need to rinse properly to get the salt off after you have gone for a dive, or you will quickly ruin any gear you use. This goes for GoPros, underwater camera housings, dive regulators etc. So I just put the Nemo in the bathtub and pulled out a lot of the cord to rinse it and while doing so I sat there and downloaded the footage. Not that bad really. But I can see why this sounds and looks like a process if you are not used to the whole post-dive-cleaning-procedure before. Thanks for the comment though. Good point to bring up.

Science Filmmaking Tips i understand the getting rid of the salt part. But isnt there a water sealed compartment for a memory card which you can take out? Or is it HD/SSD? Thanks for the content thou, -the only yt photography channel i follow

@@karjala. Thank you! Super happy that you like the channel. And I totally hear you on the cumbersome workflow here. I am not actually sure if it is SSD or not but but it feels like they have focused a lot on trying to minimise the risk of flooding anything. So the only things you remove are the batteries. But yes, it did frustrate me too that I had to sink it in water and offload via wifi (that quite honestly is pretty slow.) But overall it is a super cool piece of equipment that I can't wait to test out in some tougher conditions. Thanks for commenting! - Jonas
