Come underwater and compare 7 popular stick baits! We've got the Yamamoto Senko, Yum Dinger, Gambler Fat Ace, Big Bite Baits Trick Stick, and the Magnum Baits Soft Stick, and we're comparing them in multiple sizes! We're rigging them on a wacky rig, a texas rig, and a weighted wacky hook to see which method creates the best action for each bait.
If you've ever wanted to see what your stick bait is doing below the surface, this video is for you! Is a senko really worth the money? Is a wacky rig really the best action? Its not that simple!! Pay close attention to how the different hooks completely change the action of the bait. One bait might look terrible on a wacky rig and great on a weighted wacky, or vice versa.
Below you'll find links to the exact baits in the video. We've also included links to the exact rigging components, as well as some of the rod and reel combos we use to fish these stick baits. All the links go directly to Tackle Warehouse where you can see detailed photos and descriptions of each item.

I prefer the weighted wacky rigs, it's a little easier to cast, and it sinks a little quicker, or at least I thought it did prior to seeing this footage. Plus after seeing it under water here, the action is amazing. So far I've only been throwing 1/16oz wacky rig, may drop down to that 3/32 next time I make a TW order. I love these underwater footage videos, it gives us so much information about what's going on with our baits. Thank you TB for taking the time to make these videos, it is greatly appreciated. You peeps have been helping so many anglers become better at this sport over the years, you guys are the best on YT. 👍🏻💯🇺🇸🐟🎣👌🏻👊🏻

99percent of my bites are on the fall. I just cast it out let it fall to the bottom. No bites reel back in and repeat. The senko has it's own action so we really don't need to do anything but let the bait fall to the bottom! Great video!!

Great video! Very practical and helpful. It is a big help to see how they fall. Thank you. I've been using a very small unpegged worm bullet weight above the hook on my wacky rigs to help them fall a little faster with more action. I love the wacky rig and have caught quite a few fish in the short time I've been using it.

Yes Sir! I had no idea that the transducer made noise underwater. I'm not new to the sport, but I'm not a pro either. I could totally hear it in this video. I'm sure some fish are use to it, but I'm sure it can make some of them shy to bite or come out of the cover to hit your lure. 👍🏻

Senko, simply the very best. I've been using senkos since i believe 1998-1999. Tried others, but there was no replacing a senko. My fishing experience was dramatically improved by a senko. The best lure for bass and spots. I use 5 rigs. Weightless texas, weightless wacky, weighted wacky and weighted texas. I even use a flipping hook and a 6" or 7" senko, no weight, the hook needs to bend the senko when the hook point is inserted into the senko. When you twitch it the senko will twist and is erratic in motion. Works very well during spawn and post spawn.

Awesome video. We've had great lucky all of June fishing with the Wacky Rig, less luck with Texas but Wacky was nuts. Posted quite a few videos showing how successful this rig is...it's crazy. I prefer the finesse style, smaller worm and hook, and light line, but I lose a lot more due to the hook type.

Excellent video as usual, Thanks👍🏻 I use heat shrink tubing and a heat gun on my Senkos-very economical. I prefer 1/8 weighted on rivers for Smalljaws and 1/16 for lake largies. If the bite is tough I’m rigging a Senko.

Wow, I learned a ton on this one. I’m a “details” guy and each bait absolutely had it’s differences. My biggest takeaway wasn’t mentioned but I was amazed by the Texas Rigged baits. If you go back and watch, The hook gave most of them a slight “head down” posture so the primary action(tail wag) actually created a secondary action. The Texas rig actually has a side to side roll created by the tail wag and it looks like it’s swimming. Especially on the 6” baits. Very similar to what the correct trailer does to a swim jig. Really great footage Tim. It will completely change how I fish these stick baits. Thanks for this one and for ALL your great content.
@tacticalbassin

My favorite 5" stick bait is the Berkley Maxscent General. Similar fall rate (if not faster) to the Senko on a weightless wacky hook. I like the matte finish and that powerbait scent can't hurt. Unfortunately, they are even more expensive than Senkos and harder to find.

I almost always throw a light weighted wacky rig opposed to weightless. It falls just about as slow and like the underwater footage shows, seems to have a better action. Another plus is I find that it will fall more vertical than a weightless in windy conditions. Great content!

@danieltaylor9459
@danieltaylor9459 Год назад
@An Angry Customer Can’t deny that. 🤷‍♂️ They work amazing-and the action is phenomenal. Even if they were slightly more durable…that’d be fantastic-but the most fish I catch on a senko is one or two before the bait gets absolutely torn apart or if it’s ripped off the o-ring. I think the dingers with a light weighted wacky hook work very similarly-at least that’s the best comparison I’ve found.
@anangrycustomer2913
@anangrycustomer2913 Год назад
@@danieltaylor9459 it probably is the high salt content making them not so durable. But I personally still only use the Yamamoto senko. And I don't know what everyone is doing wrong, because I've never had a senko get destroyed that fast

I LOVE the YUM Dingers for their durability and ESPECIALLY their affordability! They are STIFF for sure, and DON'T SINK FAST. This, however, DOES NOT mean they are garbage. YUM Dingers are my favorite stickbaits for the Neko Rig and weighted Wacky Rig with a weedless Wacky jig, by far! They certainly benefit from the weight since they are salt-free plastic and sink extremely slow when weightless. Moreover, the STIFFNESS of the YUM Dinger is a REAL ASSET for the RECOIL BACK TO STRAIGHT you get after you tug the Neko Rig forward or when the Wacky jig comes to rest. IMO you do NOT want a soft stickbait for these two rigging options. However, I DO NOT EVER fish the YUM Dingers WEIGHTLESS, either as Texas rigged or Wacky rigged. The stiffness that comes with their durability creates almost NO ACTION on a weightless fall, NOT AT ALL WHAT YOU WANT. For weightless rigs I "stick" (see what I did there?) with the Bass Pro Shops Stik-O and the Z Man ZinkerZ.

Been fishing what is now called a wacky rig since the late 90,s. Won a lot of tournaments for years with it. We started just by hooking it dead center of the bait but we were tearing up alot of Senkos. So I stole some oil rings out of my dads caterpillar oil ring kit and started hooking them that way. We also would slide the oil ring almost to the very end and hook them that way also instead of a Texas Rig. I’m glad it took so long to finally catch on.

Love your info...Try a small split shot about a foot up your line...gives it just enough to pull it down a little faster ...either wacky or texas

What was your 5" Texas Rig setup? It looks like an Expride B in the video, but I'm mostly curious about line size for hook penetration. Do you ever go braid to leader for senkos or just straight fluorocarbon?

Great video. I was wondering is there an advantage to using bands over O rings?

My ranking, just by the looks of the underwater footage (never fished a senko), 1: Texas Riggin, 2: weighted Wacky , 3: Wacky . I realy like the "paddling" of the senko when it falls with the texas rig.

Yesterday was the first day I used Yamamoto rubber worms on my kayak and I’m honestly in shock at how much better they are than any other fake worm I’ve used. I’m used to catching one or two bass after hours of fishing but yesterday was crazy. Back to back small mouth bass and I caught a monster 25 inch pickerel. I have no clue why they work so much better but I know I’m never using any rubber worms that aren’t from Yamamoto again.

I place a small rattle in one end of the senko and fish it weightless. This way works great in stained to muddy water. The rattle ads a subtle sound for the bass to hone in on.

Rattle? Never heard of that or seen it!

@@jasonvigeant8893 poke a small hole in the fat end of a stick bait or senko and place a small rattle in the hole and seal it with super glue and rig it wacky style. Works great in stained to muddy water.

Great stuff Tim. I noticed that your line angle for this was mostly vertical or close to it. Do you think a longer cast with a more horizontal line angle and line will have effect on the falls and action? And also, how much does line weigh/size change the actions if at all? Mostly curious in seeing the difference between the action and falls when fishing open water with 10lb vs heavy cover areas like the delta with 15lb+ line.
