this song was written by members of the British band Hot Chocolate and released in 1973. if you listen to their version, you will see that the lyrics are quite different and were whitewashed when covered by Stories 6 months later and all of the other bands that followed
Yes, the original lyrics are much better, and are more symmetrical, showing that there is intolerance on both sides. But I almost can't blame them for whitewashing the lyrics. To an all-white band, acknowledging Black racial intolerance might have felt too much like the "whataboutism" (a..k.a. "Well, they do it, too") that is so popular in political discussions. And the part where his dad says "I don't want no spook in my family," I can't imagine that radio stations (or even the FCC) would be comfortable airing that. It's not the N-word, but it really is.
HAL GRIFFIN. TRY THE REST OF THE UNDISPUTED TRUTH RECORDS, YOU WILL NOT KNOW WHAT HAS HIT YOU,AND WHY NO RADIO STATION HAS EVERY PLAYED ANY OF THEIR SONGS. GOOD LUCK IN YOU UNDISPUTED TRUTH BIRTH.

I think this story is about drugs. Being a product of an affair, both my parents were both on heroine and I had no idea until my father died and my mothers loneliness affected her well being. My sister and I foumd out and she got clean but "white, girl, boy, and bitch, black were references towards drugs in those days. No race was is safe from drugs as it takes you on different paths and causes a scene of disturbing effects and danger on all sides. Damn!!!! This song hits different knowing my parents played it!
I can't believe the German producer Dieter Bohlen stole this track sped it up and made it a hit in Germany for his duo called Modern Talking. Not only has it the same title but also the vasic harmonies are the same and part of the melody sounds alike. Somebody sue this guy!
