"Dirty Diana" is a song by American singer-songwriter Michael Jackson. It is the ninth track on Jackson's seventh studio album, Bad. Dirty Diana" was written and co-produced by Jackson, and produced by Quincy Jones. The song's lyrics pertain to groupies. "Dirty Diana" has a moderate tempo and is played in the key of G minor.
"Dirty Diana" received mixed reviews from contemporary music critics, but was a commercial success worldwide in 1988, charting at No. 1 on the United States Billboard Hot 100. A music video for "Dirty Diana" was filmed in front of a live audience and released in 1988.
"Dirty Diana" was written by Michael Jackson. It was produced by Quincy Jones and Michael Jackson. It appeared on Jackson's seventh studio album, Bad. The song was released by Epic Records on April 18, 1988, as the fifth single from Bad. After "Beat It", "Dirty Diana" was the second hard rock song of his solo career with lyrics about a persistent groupie. Jackson hired Billy Idol's guitarist Steve Stevens to back him on the track.
Initial reports at the time suggested the song was a poke at his close friend Diana Ross. However, it was later denied. In fact, Ross started using the song as an overture at her concerts shortly before appearing on stage. In an interview from the special edition of Bad, Jones later confirmed that the song's lyrics were about groupies. Jackson also confirmed the same during an interview with Barbara Walters, adding that it was not about Diana, Princess of Wales, though he was told personally by the Princess that it was her favorite among his songs.
Bad is the seventh studio album by the American singer and songwriter Michael Jackson. It was released on August 31, 1987, by Epic Records, nearly five years after Jackson's previous album, Thriller. Written and recorded between January 1985 and July 1987, Bad was the third and final collaboration between Jackson and producer Quincy Jones, with Jackson co-producing and composing all but two tracks. Jackson adopted an edgy look and sound with Bad, departing from his signature groove-based style and high-pitched vocals. The album incorporates pop, rock, funk, R&B, dance, soul, and hard rock styles. Jackson wrote nine of the eleven songs on the album. Lyrical themes on the album include media bias, paranoia, racial profiling, romance, self-improvement, and world peace.

MJ was a impeccable writer he’s in the Songwriters Hall Of Fame for a good freaking reason and he’s written mostly all of his Number 1 Hits except for maybe like 2 he’s written the most and not to mention this man’s gift of pulling you in and making you emotionally invested! And I understand simplicity may be a factor to diminish a score but when you looking back at it in retrospect I have to question most of one’s music knowledge simply cause I reckon that having simplicity gives you more control on the creativity of the record and the overall quality/composition I honestly find it interesting you call it simple production since at this time most of the media/music credits claimed MJ overproduced etc. but then again you’re not necessarily grading it from in the moment you’re grading it from a different perspective a retrospect so yea that’s something to really think about✍🏽👑🖤🌟💯(To me “Dirty Diana” is a song that not only is a sound MJ inherited but he pushed the Rock/Hard Rock sound forward with this record you can say he gotten most of the general public to buy into the genre when most rebelled against it during that time so I feel most should give thanks to MJ for his contribution into that genre/field of music and he excelled not only did good but he truly sky rocketed extremely into the Rock/Hard Rock genre Long Live The King Of Music Forever!)

I love Thriller, but the Bad album is my absolute favorite; it’s the era I loved the most.

This is my favorite MJ's rock song. Especially for the dark atmosphere brought by the synths and fx, and the voice performance with these outstanding adlibs. It's also interesting that you chose to use the unedited pic of the Bad cover... Any thoughts about that?...
