Unearthing the 1955 Studebaker Stiletto to Start Restoration

The longest resident of Fiberglass Farms the Studebaker Stiletto, is being unearthed and shipped out to Colorado for its restoration. Under the new ownership of our friend Steve Cowdin, this unique one-off car is heading back to its original home state. It took quite a lot of work to dig this one out of its grave and it almost killed Mike, as you'll see in the video.

For those who want to follow along for some updates from Steve Cowdin, you can check out the page he has on his website about the Studebaker Stiletto. We're hoping to have more video content in the future as well once he really starts digging into it! www.granthamstardust.com/1955-Studebaker-Stiletto/

Thanks for the video. I did a 1953 Austin Heal;y 100/4 that reminds me of some of your cars. Now I do a 1983 TARGA SC Porsche 911. I will continue watching and subscribe as well. I wanty to do a video on the 911 as it needs the usual engine work. The rest of the car is stainless,,,, yeah. Leaves time for the engine work.

The funniest part about it is that the day before we dug this out, I had asked Geoff, if with all the old cars and ancient tires, he’s dealt with if any of them have ever exploded on him, which they had not. It was quite a close call!

I had the pleasure to drive some of these cars back in the 50's After I just got my license. Always thought they were ahead of their time back then. When I bought my first ar they were basically gone from the scene in 1962.

It’s a cool find. And no doubt it’s rare. Definitely deserves to be restored. It’s interesting the way an Edsel is interesting. I wouldn’t call it a pretty car. There’s some major proportion problems with it. But beauty is in the eye of the beholder. I even looked at pictures of the car online an artist rendering. Just to be sure I wasn’t missing something in its derelict state.

Odd; in speaking with a past Studebaker club President, no material of any kind has ever been unearthed on this concept car. No one's heard of it, and the factory never photographed any such car. I have to believe people have their information mixed up on this. Word is, a customizer of the day made this, but it got little to no publicity.

I had a 1977 Ducati DM500S modified by the factory from a parallel twin to a vertical twin with an 87 degree crank and crankcase mods to improve lubrication. It was written about extensively, and much material was uploaded to the net around 2002, and plenty of discussion was had. I can no longer find a single reference to my bike online, and I would be surprised if the current Ducati Club President knew anything about it at all. Sometimes, if its not in a hardcopy book, things get forgotten.

I just found your channel and immediately subscribed. I've always been a car guy and thought that I was fairly well informed, but I looked at your homepage and I am only familiar with one car, the Woodill, and that's only because one was featured on a car TV show a few years ago. The Stiletto drawings look fantastic, especially the red version. Are you going to keep the drive train and suspension original or mordenize them? A supercharged V6 would make it into a little rocket. I'll be anxiously awaiting to see your progress. I've always been a fan of Studebaker, and am disappointed that their styling was not more popular. The '53 Starliner and the Avanti, in my opinion, are absolutely gorgeous examples of automotive styling. Stay well and good luck.

The cause for excitement was the reason most of these clasics died. They just didn't appeal to many folks so they withered away till the time was right. Guys like Borrix and Gene were great in their time, and I am not sure about both of them but Gene for sure is still building cars at close to or maybe over a hundred years of age. This is not a seven day Chip Foose build, but in fact, he too is quite famous

I prefer the original front end, with the angled bracing, it's very distinctive. The horizontal renderings look too conventional.

Well that's a first for me, never seen a guy use a floor jack so many times on 1 car in 15 mins. And can anyone tell me how many cars passed in front of his house while unloading?
