In this video I lay out the reasons why unemployment is the new normal and my top tips for staying sane/smart while unemployed (hint: they are NOT "apply to jobs every day" and "stick to a routine," which you're probably sick of hearing). Comment below if you have ever started a business (tip #3) or are thinking about starting one! I love hearing from you all 🤗

Well the point of going to college is to get experience, so, that means the "REAL" problem is either A) employers are lying or stupid when they tell you, that in order to apply you need to have a BA or whatever equivalent to even be considered. or B) Colleges are crooks and really are useless institutions that teach you nothing and charge thousands upon thousands of dollars for nothing. C) Both Jobs and Colleges are full of 💩, especially when little Greg or Amy who's the relative of an employee or boss who works there don't need any of that stuff in order to just walk in and get hired. Gee, I wonder if the problem isn't just people.

What do you mean by mediocre? Define what that means to you. Do you think your degree is a passport to a good job right out the gate, with potentially no relevant experience? You have to work your way up and earn better positions just like anyone else. Not sure what that causes a “mental breakdown” for you. Adapt, learn, grow with entry level jobs, move to other companies, identify the path you want to take.

I was really glad to hear your point on grad school. I’m 22, graduated this spring and did exactly what you suggested you shouldn’t do. Couldn’t find a job/didn’t know what I wanted to do with my life so enrolled in an Economics grad program. Thankfully I listened to my intuition and dropped it after completing just one class. It felt so forced and inauthentic. Only thing is now my mom and family are on my case about it because they think if I still can’t find a job and now dropped out of school that I’ll be eternally fucked. I’m a bit more confident that things will work out accordingly than they are. Nice channel. Subbed 👍

Oh, and also... liked your point about trying to find life purpose etc. Aside from applying to jobs, I’ve been spending most of my time working on this amazing life purpose course I purchased. I’ve learned so much about myself, my top strengths and my values in life. Really eye opening. It’s become evidently clear to me that there is nothing more I value in life than freedom. I want to answer to no one. It’s just a matter of figuring out what exactly I can create in my life to fulfill that value/goal.

I ended up working for Trader Joe’s for a few years. I knew so many people with college degrees working in jobs like these, and shifting out of it was an uphill battle-the usual cycle of, ‘I can’t apply bc I don’t have experience,’ but then I’m not getting experience, so it’s a vicious cycle.

I finished my bachelor's in mechanical engineering in India in July 2006. Went to grad school in Australia in March 2007. Completed master's degree in oil and gas engineering in December 2009. Since then I have been looking for a suitable job in both Australia and India. Job search has become a habit in the past 11 years. I can't get enough of it. My job applications are always unsuccessful despite having my resume and covering letter checked by grad school Careers Centre Careers Advisor. I love reading rejection emails from human resources personnel. They motivate me to apply for more jobs. I love my job of looking for a job relevant to my academic qualifications, skills and work experience. 🙂

I was working part-time jobs (on-campus) while in school, and I quit so that I could dedicate a significant amount of time to the job search during my last semester. All that did was lead to disappointment after disappointment. 5 months after graduating, I've gone nowhere. Somehow I managed to make it financially without earning a cent over the past 7 months (stimulus was definitely a blessing). I can't stress enough how insane how tough the job market is . . . I've been burned by it like many of you. I think the hardest part about all this is that I am forgetting what I bring to the table. I've been out of school and over a year past all of my internships. With the time away from doing valuable things, I feel like I've lost the value that I was ready to provide. That makes interviewing even tougher. The crazy thing is I'm starting to think maybe I should just settle with McDonalds for $13/hour

I'm in this spot right now, but the problem is I have no relevant experience. I favored graduating on time and committing to schoolwork over internships or jobs. I'm 30 now. I worked in the Air Force for 4 years and then was a Armored Truck driver after that. I ended up quitting the second position because I developed extremely bad psoriasis from the stress and there was a company merger that sent things to shit. So I go to school on my benefits. Get a BBA in MIS. Magna Cum Laude. Now, MONTH's after graduating, I can't find a job. I'm even wiling to move to a neighboring state. I'd work for fucking nothing pretty much, relatively speaking. You'd figure It would be easy to get a job being a vet with an honorable discharge, no criminal record, and a decent bachelor's degree. The best advice I'd give anyone young now is to go to trade school instead of college.

@@danc5644 on a side note, my wife's uncle started his own contracting business sometime in his late 20s or early 30s with very little hands-on trades experience. I think he only did painting jobs but somehow was able to recruit/hire 2 guys who had more experience who handled majority of the small residential/landscaping projects while he just handled the business side of things. He eventually hired my father-in-law and another cousin in the family because they also had trades experience. His wife also helped with the accounting, and i believe she also worked for a title company. I think it took him around 10-12 years or so to build up his team and make a name for himself in his town. By the time he was in his early 40s, his residential construction business expanded to a few small commercial gigs as well. It was around his mid-to-late 40s where his business took off and was generating several 6-figure projects and maybe 1 or 2 million-dollar projects. BEcause of this, he was able to put his 2 sons through medical school, out-of-pocket. He's around 51 or 52 today. He still only holds a high school degree. I believe his wife eventually got a business-related college degree a few years ago. Before all of this he was just working as a cashier at the local Albertsons grocery store.

Job hunting things I noticed. P.S. I have a BA in business admin. 1. Jobs that require a degree and experience arent paying nearly enough to support a person. Average being $18-$21 an hour or $30k annual. 2. Jobs everytime will choose a person with experience over a degree. 5 years is usually a minimum meaning your in the door but at the bottom pick. Basically employers dont like training. 3. Since all the layoffs of 2020, there is a huge amount of people with life long careers under their belt applying to the same job as you. What an employer has to train you, the other applicant can do in their sleep day 1.

I finished my graduation in Arts a month ago and forget about the job market now (during pandemic) the job market in arts has always been a mess, the pandemic just added onto the chaos. I see all these videos about how if we do this or that we'd land up in jobs; sure, but they're not even the jobs we really ever wanted to work for then how is that good? I want to work as a production designer but forget about jobs or even internships, the only positions I get offered are to be a graphic designer! Which is not even my degree! So I'd really like to know how any of these suggestions that are being given helps us? Because I feel it's not us (the freshly graduated students) who need to change the mindset, instead it's the market that needs to create more employment opportunities for people instead of just making a single person do all the required jobs.

I busted my butt off for 12 years to become a corporate manager. I have no degree but everyday of my life i was treated like an idiot by degree holders and bullied by them. There is an elitist mindset behind degree holders that needs to end. Many of you need to realize that the entire corporate atmosphere has a socio political aspect to it. You need to become involved with elite people, and yes. You will lose your soul in the process, you will be degraded, and i would be lying if i said i have not used my body and charisma to advance my career. After college is over, you see the world for what it is. America is borderline 3rd world status at this point. You may disagree, but after working many different jobs and experiencing the job market (which you have not while in college) you will see that it takes social sharpness, tact, plotting, manipulation, oscar winning acting and extreme patience to make it to the top. You have to completely give up your ego, your dignity, your interests and your spirit. Its cruel, its vile, youll hate your own reflection and the people you work with and they will hate you but its the true face of America now.

Graduating right when the pandemic hit set a lot of us back. And my graduation was pushed back until late 2020 and I didn’t get my diploma until 2021. The only form of experience I was able to get within the field I studied was a remote internship and it literally sucks. Nobody is willing to give us the experience we need and all these jobs pass us by. I even applied to jobs outside my field and still no luck. I even applied to photography jobs where I have 5+ years of experience with shooting and editing and I still can’t get a simple photography job. This system that’s set up for us sucks and it makes me feel like I’m a failure in life because I never expected my life to be like this at 24. I’m about to be 25 and the internal pain I feel for being unemployed around my birthday for another year hurts a lot. Especially when you apply yourself everyday to find work and to perfect your craft. I even started my own photography business in 2021 and I love it but not everyone will see your vision especially just starting. I am blessed to have had some clients but when it started to slow down I tried everything and no luck. And the other means to gain clients I would have to pay out of pocket with money I don’t have. Social media in a whole sucks when trying to find clients but everyone literally just watches. I’m not one to complain but it really sucks when you apply yourself and you get nothing back.
