______
Finally, I made it: The weather was right, and I had time ;) - perfect for a comparison of the two antennas...
The test route extended from the starting point to the summit of Schafberg I had targeted. At least, that was the plan. During the first flight with the original antennas, I noticed that there was still a pretty good signal at the summit, so I had to improvise. I flew to the furthest visible point, the hut at Rotsteinpass. When the signal strength was still good there but the battery was running low, I turned back...
On the second flight, I flew directly to the Rotsteinpass hut without detouring to the summit of Schafberg. I haven't fully utilized the potential of the antennas and goggles yet... I didn't plan enough test route and battery. Overall, I am very positively surprised by the distance achieved. It gives you a good feeling when flying, knowing how much is really possible...

Directional patches are really hard to get aimed perfectly when on your head, particularly at distance. Would be interesting to see how they performed with an antenna tracker where you know you're aimed well. But regardless, surprising performance from the stock antennas for sure.
@PiotrMarkiewicz

I agree that stock antennas are surprising but I had same question about proper "tracking" but I'm afraid in mountains antenna tracker may not be best solution. Apart from that patches have circular polarization, was matching antenna installed on copter?

@Michelsen3K
@Michelsen3K 21 день назад

Very interesting - thanks for sharing! With the Goggles V2 you definitely noticed a big difference with X-Air patch antennas. Especially from a distance of 3km. However, you always have to point the head or the antennas in the right direction, otherwise the connection is lost. This could partly explain the signal drops. But I agree with you: it's better to accept the barely noticeably "weaker signal" and not have any sudden, sharp drops of signal 👍
@swissfpvshots

I agree with you... I also had the V2 goggles and got week signal after 1km... but with patchantennas it got much better...

Thank you for your interesting test. If I understand the graph correctly, there is no point in buying TrueRC antennas since they are no better than the original antennas with a signal that is even more unstable at times!

Have you flown with the stock antennas (that have linear polarization) and an antenna with circular polarization on the drone (Momoda 5.8G RP-SMA LHCP 120MM) and have you reached the same distance as with a patch with circular polarization? What would happen if you set up the same type of polarization on both sides with stock antennas?
@BarryAllannussy
@BarryAllannussy 3 месяца назад
nice video comparison but I noticed the height is different between 2 video as video on the left fly much lower than on the right which higher you fly will get better reception but stock antenna was performed quite well lower height and it was getting better when you fly higher.

To me seams strange. I did more o less the same test and in my case patch was much more than standard ants. Something very important is to have the ants streight to the drone. If you turn your head or you look down(or up) as many ppl doing FPV, so your result start having some sense...

Thanks for the test video. Were the TrueRC antennas LHCP or RHCP? What antennas were on the drone? I have LHCP antennas on my MOZ7 and the LHCP version of the TrueRC antennas on my goggles 2 and have much better range in my tests. If you have linear antennas on the drone and LHCP or RHCP antennas on the goggles, your range will be less by about 3dB.

This was what I was wondering, if linear on drone and co on goggles your not getting the advantage of either, I would actually like to see a test of linear on drone and linear patch on goggles, I've wondered if with digital in this type of environment do we really need cp and would it just be better having the extra gain, but then you have to be careful about were the bulls are pointing
