I had a kid seat in the back of a Honda CRX, it was really easy to reach behind & fix the sticky mess. Too many people buy a big car when they have a small'un to cart about, but the lack of legroom in a sportscar can be really useful.
Never mind, I looked it up an there was a jdm back seat you could get, and someone on a forum said in the manual it shows how to add a child seat even without the jdm back seats installed.
Retired JLR certified sales guy, with the svr put it into sport mode, you can then press the exhaust button which opens up the inner exhaust valve.. and gives it the real pops and crackles, it also ups the power curve (and lowers fuel consumption).. you had it in auto mode.. when its in sport mode the dashboard goes into red and changes the display… But i’d not tell the wife about that, just keep that to yourself 😉 Also i had clients with the same engine who had done 400,000+ miles on the same engine.. but regular servicing is a ‘must’.. these cars are expensive to service so often people don’t bother..and then surprise they break down.. then they complain about poor reliability even though it didnt have an official service in 5+ years
Also press the start button without holding the brake to bring the electrics on to open all the valves before starting the engine, that’s way the whole neighbourhood can hear you in the morning. 2020 F pace SVR, sounds like a chainsaw on the downshifts.
I know its not the same. But you are correct my mom went to a dealership and wanted a specific car or similar but they were trying to push her into something that she didn’t want. Then a few days later she went back looked at another car she liked and got it no hassle.
Unfortunately, we aren't all You Tube 'stars', and a vehicle like this, would get sold within the hour of any of us leaving that dealership, for a huge 'price adjustment' above MSRP. That advice is good for more sane times in the automotive sector.
@@perryelyod4870 one of my rules that I follow that has rarely steered me wrong. If your gut tells you something is a good deal, don't hesitate. You snooze, you lose.
Never take your wife to buy a new car, while your trying to get your 500 bucks off from the salesman your wife will be looking bored and just wanting your to get it
Mrs. Hoovie deserves the SV R after how things went down with the Audi (which I know isn't totally Tyler's fault). I mean, it's already blue and carbon, and it makes some pretty happy noises too, so it's got that going for it. 😂
Warning!!! She probably won't enjoy the SVR. The seating isn't as comfortable, it rides a lot harder and it's noisy. Reaching into the rear isn't very easy as the seat locks you in. I'd recommend another Range Rover just not the long wheelbase.
Do you think people back in the '90s thought they would ever see a woody station wagon preserved as a collector car amongst super cars in a garage? I love it!
yeah I'm definitely keeping my 1993 Buick Roadmaster wagon going as long as I can nothing rides like them and nothing is as reliable as them. I still get 20-23MPG with 219,000 miles on the clock.
Actually yes, there was a bit of a suspicion among those of us in the car business at the time because we knew that era was ending - comparable to today knowing a Hellcat is an endangered species
Tyler- It is pretty obvious you were pleasantly surprised by the 2022 RR, as you repeated, "Wowzers!" more times this episode than I have ever heard! Whatever you purchase, I hope it treats you as well as you treat us with your content. Good luck with your decision!
I think your wife will hate the bucket seats. Theyre probably not as comfortable for long drives and make reaching into the backseat harder because of the tight bolsters
Those SVR's sound absolutely incredible! One of the best sounding cars on the market without doubt - and looks like Hoovie didn't even have the exhaust value open on his test drive (the dials get a red line around when it's open I believe), so would sound even better then! Really hope he gets it!!
Exactly why I find myself watching his videos less and less. Really getting away from his founding fan base. Still enjoy the other videos though when their based in reality.
Tyler. you are losing the plot mate. no one wants to watch you go shopping for the missus with our eyeballs. get back to Hopties and stupidly broken Supercars.
I think RU-vidrs end up this way, I tend to not bother with his modern car/super car stuff and just watch on the occasion he has a real old banger Lots of other RU-vidrs still down to earth
I've got a 2006 HSE with the 4.4 Jag with 246,000 miles. I replaced the transmission with a used one at 180,000. Other than that, just a few batteries and the usual wear items. *Knocking on wood*
Famous last words wait till you’re broke and the land rover decides it wants new air shocks all round including for its new friends. At that point the mechanic will become the big dick daddy that you never wanted!
@@mromatic17 Cheap to convert to coil spring suspension, or just DIY replace the bags yourself with cheaper Arnott replacements. Usually it’s just the compressor, or the proportioning valve blocks though which is stupid simple to rebuild/replace yourself.
A relatively firm seating surface is actually better for comfort and back health at long drives, despite Hoovie claiming different at every possible occasion. Soft seats are very comfortable in short term, but if you have long drives all the time, no way you're picking a car with 70s land yacht couch seating.
100% agree with the idea behind selling the car. The car market is rapidly falling and prices will not be like this in a long time. Only getting hit a little bit while driving the car for 2 years is an amazing deal. Excited to see what’s the second option to the SVR
It seems like the pre-facelift L405s from 2013-2017 are the sweet spot for full-sized Range Rovers. They have the best reliability out of all the generations being on par with the German competition, and Land Rover really stepped up their game for materials in that generation. Beginning in 2018, things went downhill again when they added too much unnecessary technology like electronically-opening cup holders and in-house drivetrains in the form of the Ingenium engines (or what I call the “Ignoramous” engines).
@@RealAGuy Yeah specifically the BMW N63 V8, which is one of the worst V8s ever made. If Land Rover would’ve put the B58 inline-6 or the B48 inline-4 from BMW into the new Range Rovers instead of the N63 V8s, they would’ve been much better vehicles.
@@alecmartin0180 Range Rovers were getting reliable under Ford ownership starting with mid cycle L322 to the L405 which was partly developed under Ford. Early 405’s still have the Ford derived Powertrains before changing to the ingenium engines for the 6 cylinder motors and now the BMW N63 V8 in the latest Range Rover.
If you’d like another performance SUV then you should look into a 21-22 Cayenne GTS! Better sound than an SVR Range Rover in my opinion, better handling, much better reliability, and better resale value. Im a service advisor for Porsche in Houston and we don’t really have any issues with these
I love his vague reasons for justifying changing cars. “This RR LWB is too long to pick up child toys at traffic lights. I must change it for a much newer and faster one as its slightly shorter” 😂😂
My friend has a Range Rover Supersport and his wife drives a BMW 5M which after the first 3 years the BWM has been in the shop 6x while the Range Rover 1x for suspension issue. The last time the BMW was in for service it was gone for 3 weeks while it waited in a specific part to do with the fuel system.
I used to get fast cars from work. My then 3 year old daughter screamed "happy" when the turbos spooled on the CTS Vsport. She didn't want me to return the CTS V manual coupe because it "meant too much to her".
There's no such thing as an "unexpected problem" with a Range Rover... You should expect anything and everything to break, at any time. The question is, if it will ever manage to get fixed. Personal experience tells me the dealer will have it for 11 months before they tell you it simply can't be fixed. Hoovie managed to get himself a unicorn.
THIS THIS THIS...I had a good friend who bought a top of the line brand new Range Rover and got rid of it three months later at a massive loss and bought a really nice Toyota Four Runner. The killer was the guy was working overtime on a Saturday and after numerous other quality issues with the Rover ,it simply refused to start...BRAND NEW. Next day he got it running enough to trade it in and said never again. Loves his Toyota Four Runner.
@@phil4986 Luckily for us, we had a really solid dealer and at the end of the ordeal, they bought the car back at the original sales price. I think they did that to avoid triggering a lemon law suit. Either way they were great and my wife decided she just wanted something that wasn't a headache. Oddly enough she landed on a Honda Passport. She loves that thing and it's been 2+ years of smooth sailing with it.
@@jcrbama that is the truly infrutrating part.Range Rovers are beautifully built..at least as they look. Then they simply very quickly fall apart.Hondas are not near as pretty but seldom fall apart.I'll take option two every time.
This Range Rover should go in a museum - a fully working example! Seriously though, it's good to hear that reliability has improved, stylishness and dependability are a very cool combination.
Honestly I can see the appeal of the SV R. Its fast and spacious and fairly well equipped. I have to say though especially in England they come off a little obnoxious and are drive by what top gear would call a yobbo.
@@Kaktus965 Wtf?? She works hard too why do people act like Hoover is the only bread winner in the household.. She probably mentioned not being able to reach the kids in the car when hooves probably mentioned buying a new car
@@zachschmidt7417 sounds like a boomer that doesn't bring times have changed. Most of the ones that I've seen in and around NYC are pretty solid without any real issues ... They are comparable to BMWs and Mercedes in terms of reliability.
The SVR is a best. But I'd rather have a sporty, actually fun car and a good reliable and fuel efficient daily to haul the kids around and you could probably get both for the price of one SVR.
I had a 2017 SVR in Estoril blue in uk for 18 months..absolutely loved it..only thing that went wrong with it was a gearbox sync warning that came up twice just left car for 15 mins and when i came back all good..sounded brilliant…thought it was bad on petrol until i swopped it for 911 Carrera S which bizarrely is worse on fuel 🤷♂️🇬🇧
This don't make sense because of your specific situation but that thing has beautiful amount of leg room for the passengers in the back which is a very good thing.
Do it! She deserves it after the R8 disaster Love the Landy updates i have a vintage 1966 series 2 but is currently apart waiting on a new clutch plate
Unfortunately, when looking at the Range Rover Sport as a vehicle, according to the reliability report from ReliabilityIndex (for 2019), it can be said that performance is poor. The reliability score of the Sport is 366, which gives this model a lower score than the brand received as a whole. Repair costs are another issue that can be seen as unimpressive, with owners seeing an average charge of almost £480 if it needs to visit the garage.
I bought a certified pre-owned 2019 RR Sport eith a 4 year, unlimited mileage warranty. We love it (drove 978 miles one day from Montana to California and it was a breeze). That said, the second that 4 years is up, it's getting traded for another one!
I started watching Tyler’s channel several years ago. While I’m sure he keeps a close eye on the popularity of different subjects, I’m going to offer my humble opinion on this episode and some others. Hoovie’s Garage didn’t start as some kind of “Lifestyles of the Rich and Fabulous” channel. It was a guy with a well developed sense of self deprecating humour buying cars that wiser people would not have purchased. The unwise choice of vehicles lead to some interesting experiences. Experiences most of the people watching could probably relate to from their own horrifying experiences keeping odd and or old cars running. I can’t relate to trading in a six figure car for a more expensive six figure car because my wife can’t reach the backseat. It seems that the majority of Tyler’s content now revolves around extremely expensive cars. Speaking only for myself, I’m just not that interested in exotic super cars and the installation of a custom exhaust system that costs more than any of the cars in the first years of Tyler’s show. I hope this isn’t the future direction of the channel as I’ve never been that interested the trials and drama of poor rich people. As always YMMV.
The Hoovster is doing real well ! His Y-T channel alone with 1.5 million subscribers allows him to rake in over 10K a month. In addition, he is a helluva' carnival barker for ALL of the sponsors who want to be a part of his channel. That's easily another 15K+ of revenue a month generated. Finally, he is part of a very wealthy family in which he may be the sole beneficiary. All in All, a very humble and appreciative fella' who is quite entertaining. SENTIMENT : Don't jump to conclusions about the direction of his content. The HooveMeister knows what side his proverbial bread is buttered on. Hope This Helps Yo ! 💰💰💰🔍
Most of the people who rag on Land Rover reliability have never owned a Land Rover. Modern Land Rovers are pretty reliable. First, it's hard to define what a "Land Rover" is anymore. Just like with any other auto manufacturer, so many of the parts are built by third-parties who also make parts for all the other auto manufacturers. On my LR4, my starter is a Denso, my injectors are Bosch, my transmission is a ZF, etc. I've owned it for almost 7 years now and it's just about as reliable as the Land Cruiser 80 series I owned for 8 years.
My folks had a 2018 RR Velar when they first came out, had a host of technical issues and wouldn't even go into reverse! JLR ended up taking car back :/
The only mechanical fault I`ve had in my Jag (same engine) in 14 years has been the alternator, & that's Japanese! Never had another alternator go in any of my previous Jags, even when they had Lucas ones. Go figure..
10/10 recommend getting SVR. Mechanically very reliable coming from a jaguar/Land Rover technician. A lot of people don’t realize foreigns are more high maintenance than let’s say your common Chevy, but when taken care of they’re fabulous cars.
"Foreigns" means nothing. Don't lump JLR in with the rest, as they're ranked with one of the highest "problems per 100 vehicles" for a reason. But, then again, ICE cars are less reliable in general now as they're adding more and more complication to meet emissions regs and produce requisite numbers
Now I ain't sayin' she a gold digger But she ain't messin' with no broke Range Rover Now I ain't sayin' she a gold digger But she ain't messin' with no broke Range Rover
We love our Range Rover Sport HSE. Yeah, it's not an SVR but it is so comfortable and just a great road trip car. We have traveled over 500 miles in it in one day with four people in the car and everyone was comfortable.
My office window overlooks the JLR dealership across the street. I watch recovery vehicles going in and out all day. They have more vehicles awaiting repair then they have for sale.
@@williamegler8771 most German / British dealerships will have the same thing. The pre 2014 cars can be dicey for sure, I’ve owned 4. But when they redesigned them they got immensely better. My sister drives an evoque with 126k miles, not a single issue. My 16 sport V8 has been bulletproof; 65k on it right now!
I’ve always wanted a big Range Rover HSE. Currently have a LR2 and the transmission decided to puke all its fluid out so I’ve been a little hesitant lol.
I`m not into SUV`s, but that does look gorgeous. As a Brit who`s used to having people slating "our" cars reliability on a daily basis, its nice to hear your old ones been reliable for a change (I have the granddaddy of that engine in my 99 Jag XJR, & its not broken down in the 14 years I`ve had it either)..
@@Beauloqs I`ve done tens of thousands of miles in my Jags over the years, & never broken down, in fact, my Porsches & BMW`s have been less reliable than the Jags, having left me stranded several times (& they were all regularly serviced & well looked after).
I can't decide between: A) Land Rover hasn't made a reliable vehicle since they introduced the unreliable Range Rover! or B) Any new Land Rover vehicle is going to be even more unreliable than the one you already have! So you get both!
Agreed about the start stop. It can die in a fire. I keep ending up doing a mini burnout every time it does it and I don't notice. I always turn that off and enable the auto hold. I do love the auto hold feature.
That super changed Range rover would get me in trouble because knowing that power is under the hood I would be putting it to use on the highway so I would see a lot of flashing lights in the rearview
Sitting here eyeing that Roadmaster as a family hauler, remembering when I was a kid and we were getting driven around in a wagon, then a minivan, kids today don't know how good they have it!
Let me recap. A relatively new range rover has had a coolant leak and a suspension problem in 2 years of driving, which lets be honest has probably done less than 5k miles.. And thats reliable?
I am pretty sad that engine is going away, that JLR V8 is probably one of the best engines ever made. Even the early ones with the timing chain issues, because at the time just about everyone was having the same problems or worse ...I'm looking at you 5.4 Triton
I absolutely loved my LWB RR- I never had an issue either and put on 80k with mine. I know the reputation is bad, but I’ve had 2 back to back and never left me stranded. Would get the new one but I’m going full electric when I do. Such comfortable cars.
@@yankeexpress yikes that’s no good. I’ve sold mine since I’m into electric cars now… but honestly, my two Rovers were problem free. My sister bought one and she had a couple cooling hose failures + alternator failure on hers at 50k miles. Otherwise, it’s been ok. I think it’s fair to assume it’s not reliable but in my experience these newer ones have been pretty solid.
The most impressive part of the whole video is the very beginning. How is the back seat area of that Range Rover so clean? In what alternate universe does 2 young children not consistently miss their mouth with food? I look forward to the day when cleanliness in my minivan no longer means "not sticky"
You may actually be able to get the Range unlocked by getting power to the starter motor underneath the car. Allowing the auxiliary controls to turn on and hit the fob to unlock the doors. That’s how I got into my Disco when its battery died and the manual key insert did not work. I was told to try that or break the cheapest window to replace Disclaimer: I am not a mechanic, just own an aging Rover lol!
Might not have the same power but have you checked out the Genesis GV80. My brother paid 75k for theirs and it is beautiful. He gets people stopping them all of the time. Literally half the price.
We have one, and ironically it is in Hoovies video when he went to Wichita Hyundia/Genesis for one of his employees new car. The Silver GV80 parked next to that one in the video is ours. We picked it up shortly after he had left.
Seen a few SVr's here in the UK. Sadly it's suffering a bit with the Driver Cliche. To my fellow Brits. Remember how Clarkson described a group of drivers who wear flash watches and big sports sunglasses.
That’s a nice ride! The carbon looks tastefully done. I got a F150 Lariat with the 5.0 V8 and I feel like it’ll be the last V8 truck with their EcoBoost engines progressing the way they have and with the Lightning coming out.
@@TAKIZAWAYAMASHITA It'd still kbe super expensive because despite the history if it was restored it'd go for close to or more than a million. Or just be a nice display piece if they cleaned it up and just didn't fix the drivetrain
Hoovie is about to play another round of Range Rover Roulette. He was lucky with his last purchase and the SUV didn't present him with any big problems so now it looks like he is going to let it ride and spin the wheel again on the SVR.
Maybe he should ask his wife for an opinion (I suspect she has been in on it but that it didn't fit the manuscript)? He's right about trading but personally I like the LWB the most. Keep that and a fly swatter to reach the bratty kid :-)
Buy the SVR you’ll love it. I’m on my 2nd there isn’t anything else that compares to that noise. Also, the one you drove has the 1700 watt Meridien signature sound system which only about 20% of them have specced. If it has the Driver Assist Pack you’ll be surprised how well it drives autonomously.
I'm gonna disagree on the sound. The 4.4 tt v8 from BMW sounds pretty sick. High reving flat plane Ferrari vs a turbocharged v8 Ferrari they will sound pretty different but the driveability between them will be night and day.
Your daily RRS is an L320 which finished in 13MY (steel body, separate chassis), the SVR is the next generation L494 which is closely related to your LWB RR L405 (aluminium monocoque body).
These are definitely the type of problems i would love to have. But, i mean, hey, you have busted your butt to get where you are. You deserve everything you've got!
Good to see a reality check on YT that puts all the 'really clever' sarcasm against Range Rovers into perspective. Even one guy on YT who buys cheap and flips cars bought two (at different times!) and both were rock solid and never let him down. And he made good money on both. The issue is more Social Media than Range Rover because its seen as 'cool' to write crap about something.
I work at a Honda dealership as a service advisor and I just bought a 2019 Odyssey to replace our 2010 Odyssey. In this market we all know prices are crazy. More than once I have felt like I had to justify purchasing a pre-owned vehicle in this market when talking to my friends about it. It shouldn’t be like that, and I could feel that you were doing the same thing. Haters are going to disagree and say what they will but at the end of the day you can do as you please! As long as bills are paid everyone’s happy. Can’t wait to see the other contender for Mrs. Hoover’s new ride!
You can make any V8 sound the way you want with custom exhaust that is MUCH cheaper than any manufactured product. And you know somebody has "FU" money when $150K is a great value. lol
Loved my 2005 range rover hse with the bmw 4.4 looked great drove great preventive maintenance not to bad but the air suspension issues were a nightmare instantly turned into a lowrider. Think of your average suv maintenance cost and × it by 3.
