From 32 degrees one day to complete washout the next, the 2024 Big Red Bash is full of surprises. Grey mud is no fun! www.autophixaustralia.com.au www.hemamaps.com www.bigredbash.com.au
Massive mud pit mate. I know there has been notices telling people not to drive but Im still glad to see people are not being idiots. The local track wreckers here would be loving slop like that. Stay safe, warm & dry mate lol.
Left quilpie at 10am on the 5th friday heading west to windorah/jundah turnoff. I realised after an hour of a lot of moving off road with caravan, 20 footer in tow, that i stuffed up. Wrong time .... The bash traffic got heavier the closer to the turnoff i got. 4 hours to do a 2hr drive. Several windscreen chips and paint chips.. Most drivers were very carefull and slowed down and some even put all wheels off to let me stay on.. One guy in a small suv got right off and when i stayed on ,he swerved back on right at me the off again, not happy. He didn't realise if one goes right off, the other can stay on possible saving HIS windscreen... Some have no idea. In younger years in the NT on single or rocky bush roads it was known by most to drive straight at one another then at the last moment flick off to the side , the rocks are behind and no windscreen damage. I'd hate to do that here. When i turned north towards jundah at the turnoff, i heard on 40 that there was an hour wait for fuel at windorah. Many towns made good money. Quilpie iga shelves were looking quite bare.
It's certainly an adventure, we arrived at Windorah to a 2 hour que for fuel it started outside of town. We had a breakdown in our group 200km's from Birdy which kept us roadside for 2 hours. The Hema map patrol vehicle had Starlink allowing us to get help and build a recovery plan for the other vehicles, before we continued to Windorah. Thanks for the feedback and watching. Cheers Trev :)
