Rip was a broken young man when JD first found him. He grew into a man that JD could depend on.

I love the reception Rip got from all the other cowboys when he showed his brand - great comradery!

All of the casting for the younger versions of these characters is amazing except for Beth. Her younger self doesn’t look terrible or anything it’s just that the other ones are all so spot on. John, Rip, and Lloyd’s younger character actors look and sound so much like the older versions it’s crazy.

He didn't use RIP at all.He saw in RIP what he didn't see in his own sons. And RIP saw in John the father he never had.

This writing is great and nuanced. When John Dutton saves Rip from a murder rap for hitting that ranch hand with a rock, was he doing him a favor? Or binding him ala Don Corleone to him for life like Luca Brasa?

John Dutton is a mad man, respectful and understandable but completely mad and abusive and not so great father, if you can't see it you need help.

I love Kevin Costner, but I think this younger version of him makes a better John Dutton.

Heres a few takes, although Ive never actually watched the show, just clips. Do yall think Rowdy told him to say he fell off the horse to protect his ego, or was he actually looking out for the kid? Is JD manipulative handler? He knows rip was attacked with a deadly weapon and was just defending himself, yet he twists the reasoning into defending beths honor and threatens he could go to prison.
