Ella Yosef That's a great idea for a video! I've seen several tags with the question of "books you have no interest in reading," but one specifically focused on new releases is even better!
I love unhaul and declutter videos! There's something so therapeutic about watching someone clear out stuff they don't need and have a new nicely reorganized space
I love how real you are in your expectations of love stories. It helps me out so much personally because I don't enjoy unrealistic or overdone love stories. Thank you!
It made me strangely happy to hear what you said about Rowell's books! I so live in the wrong country! The cheapest i can get books is once a year in the library sale and they are not that cheap! I love that you unhaul books you actually read and have reasons for unfailing them and not just give books away you didn't even give a try! thats wonderful to see! Wonderful haul and extremely beautiful look you have going on here!
Awww you got rid of some of my favorites (the Wrath and the Dawn, Everything Everything and the Night Circus) but that's okay. Different strokes for different folks as they say. Hopefully they'll find great homes. You are so pretty!! Great video as always!
I'm shocked at a few, but the Giver. Classic dystopian. Classic classic. I would recommend trying to re-read it and actually read the whole quartet. It's heartbreaking and happy at the same time. So good.
I find it very difficult to unhaul books, and I can only really do it if I have read them. I have that nagging feeling in the back of my mind that I may read it one day, therefore I can never get rid of it. Even though I use my library all the time! It's ridiculous I know, but I just cant't kick it.
Loving the new hair! Also your rant about Attachments seriously made my day haha. I've never read it but listening to your frustration with it was so much fun :)
I am so glad to find someone who's not completely obsessed with Everything, Everything, Ready Player One and Night Circus. I found all 3 to be overrated.
I'm so glad that I was not the only one that did not like The Night Circus. It definitely moves way too slow and the instalove was just a little bit hard to take. I was a super excited to read it because I loved to Caraval and people said that it was even better than that but I definitely think Caraval was better.
I wish I had the strength to unhaul books. I really need the space but then I feel like I'll regret it later. I have no problem getting rid of anything else in my room though. Anyone else?
The only Neil Gaiman book that I've ever read was Coraline, and I loved that book (I believe it's middle grade/children's). It's creepy and delightful, and since it's technically middle grade his writing might be less meandering haha. Highly recommend to read during Halloween!
Yes, Good Omens is wonderful! My favourites from Neil Gaiman so far were American Gods (there's a tv show already, which kinda follows the story) and Stardust. American Gods is my fav book ever - amazing characters, great sense of humour, twists, a tiny bit of philosophy and horror mixed well balanced. Stardust is actually a classic-ish fairytale with a lot of twists, humour, a little bit of creepiness and stuff, I really enjoyed it. Although, be aware that Gaiman likes to write sex scenes, sometimes weird ones, sometimes in detail, so it's not for the faint of heart. :)
So...I know this is a book video, but I have to tell you that your whole look is incredible! From the ponytail to the orange/red lips to the blue and white top, it is like a perfect storm of style! You look like you should be sailing around the Greek islands or riding a bicycle along a beachside boardwalk. Beautiful...Classy...and Stylish!!!
I noticed the glass castle is on your shelf! It's so good, my favourite book. What did you think of it if you have read it? There's a movie coming out in August about it! So exciting
I am late commenting because I just found your channel. I love this video! I like the way you are showing each shelf and which books are read and that you are giving a brief review of the ones you are downsizing. Your bookshelves are so beautiful and you're making me want to try arranging mine by color (they are alphabetical by author). Maybe I will try it one of these lonely Covid days. :) I idolize John Darnielle, who is aka The Mountain Goats band, and so when he wrote a book I was excited to read it. I felt kind of meh about the story though. I still have the book and probably will keep it, but I think I over-hyped it in my mind because he is such a good lyricist and I love his songs so much.
I think the only vids I love more than hauls are unhauls xD Isn't it carthartic to get rid of lots of books though? Took me a long time to learn how (bookhorder here) but now I find it such a relief.
Congratulations on reaching 25K! That's a crazy exciting milestone. I was like over the moon by reaching 500 subs on my channel ha ha! Okay okay my question. What book do you wish you could read again for the first time? Like what book when you see someone reading it in public - and you start feeling jealous knowing they're reading it for the first time? 😊
Oh my gosh! I thought I was the only one that didn't like Everything Everything! I'm so glad that you felt the same way. I feel like everyone else raves about it, but for me it was just meh.
I too was really disappointed that the dragon was not a real dragon in uprooted. I also had much of the same issues as you while reading it, but i did finish and ended up liking it. The book was put together in an odd way, like three stories put together.
Emily, I have watched your beauty videos for years now and you've always been one of my favs. You're my go-to for lip colors!! Anyway, I've been so into your booktube channel lately. I love connecting with other readers! I just have to say that it makes me laugh out loud when you talk about Attachments lol "I would have called the police!" The only Rainbow Rowell book I've read is Eleanor and Park and there were very polarizing opinions in my book club. I think I'm getting too old for YA love stories. I just can't get into the boyfriend/savior story line. Unpopular opinion: I also hated Fault in our Stars and Twilight for the same reasons
Definitely be happy you unhauled Armada.. Ready Player One is a lot better. Armada feels very like "I have written a good book and now it's a bestseller and I have to chuck out a new one".
I completely agree with The Selection. I absolutely HATED the book! I didn't like the characters or the romance. I will not finish the series, but I still have the book mainly because of the cover so...
When I read The Giver, I got really mad because of the ending (that cliff-hanger), however when I read the other 3 books of the series it really made sense!! Maybe you reacted like that to the book because you didn't read (i presume) the other books.
I feel the same about rainbow rowell and I've only read one of her books (eleanor and park). So much insta-love, so much cringe, and so much of the love interest (Eleanor) getting angry over every little thing. Because of that I've told myself that I'll never pick up another Rainbow book again.
I felt the same way about Uprooted! Like I wanted to like it sooo bad, but I didn't like the magic and it took me two months to get through it because I refused to dnf it. -Julie
If you want to give Neil Gaiman another chance, I highly recommend American Gods. It's kind of a mix of mythology, scifi & fantasy - very intriguing + funny! It's very different from Ocean at the End of the Lane.
I think you'd enjoy Gaimans Neverwhere a lot more, based on your other faves. It's not as surrealistic, and I usually describe it as a down and dirty (read: f-ed up) Narnia in the London Underground. But I find it interesting how so many people prefer so different writing styles. I love Neil Gaiman for just that, because he kinda writes like I see the world/how I dream. On the other hand I absolutely can't stand any Hemingway-type writing, like at all. Anything overly simplified and I loose track.
I also didn't like The Night Circus. I got fooled into buying it because of the hype thay surrounded it and how it was marketed. I do agree that the carnival itself was a wonderful aspect of the book but that's just about it really. The pace was too slow, too flowery, and rather anti-climactic given that there'd be "battle" but really there wasnt. Plus I felt like the love story didn't make sense because they fell in love too soon. I dunno. I guess I belong to the minority who didn't enjoy it *shrugs*
I love the atmosphere and the writing style but really deteste the plot and the way everything went. It seemed very forced and unrealistic. But the aspect of the wonderful language is more important for me so I'm keeping my edition
I've read 3 books by Neil Gaiman each time following the trend and rave reviews. Didn't like any of them. However I'm watching American Gods on TV and it's so amazing, because it actually visualises the "fairy tale" part which makes more sense watching than reading it. Lena Dunham book.... I listened to the audiobook, I couldn't understand why people loved it. I think I gave it 1/5.
For rainbow rowell, maybe you're not into her kinda YA stories? I would recommend Landline, it's her more adult kind of books. Maybe that would be your cup of tea? Since you tried her YA ones and you didnt enjoy them. If you still dont like Landline, im assuming she's just not for you 😂
I loved Ready Player One, but it IS 90% nostalgia. I'm curious what you would think of Howl's Moving Castle. I know a lot of people who didn't like Uprooted because the main interest is a bit of a dick, and usually I agree, but I love Howl! Totally agree on the Night Circus! I felt like the ending was so bogus because the whole book is leading to ONE THING and then the author found some stupid way to get around it which frustrates me.
I’m watching this in Jan 2022, and I’m just curious what it is that is different in your speech 4 years ago? Is it that you have Invisalign presently? Lol just curious 😊
I love Neil Gaiman but Ocean at the End of the Lane was my least favourite of his so far. My favourite is the Graveyard Book. You should check that one out!
I never bought uprooted but I borrowed it from the library twice. Hated it. I wanted to love it too. That's why I borrowed it a second time, to give it another shot, but I dnf it about half way both times. I thought the characters were weak. There was practically no character development either. It was all action, which I can't do. I have read high fantasy and loved them because the character development was really good. I thought the writing was beautiful too but I couldn't get sucked in.
Disliking Fangirl is actually not an unpopular opinion. The sequel/spinoff based on the characters Cath writes fanfiction about Carry On is much better. It's a boy-boy love story and has a magic element. I had no idea Nerve was based on a book!
if i did not leave this Tuesday I would've asked you to meet somewhere in Montreal to get the Rose and the Dagger and some other books. I probably will do another unhaul soon
I still can get it why to collect all the books on my bookshelf, there are just several that I will reread so I just get rid of almost all the books I buy, I leave them at reading cafés etc.
I just finished the wrath and the dawn duology and LOVED it, although I was fighting the relationship between Khalid and Shazi throughout the whole first book
I really like this type of video! I have such a hard time getting rid of books, but I recently donated 31! I had just had most of them for way too long considering I would have never read them again or didn't even really like them. :P But now I have all kinds of space for more! :D
I like watching your videos, I would like to know a few things, sorry if I missed them...that is if you answered these before in other videos. 1. Which law school did you go to ( now that your done)? :) 2. Are you working in the field or looking for work? 3. Do you have a boy friend ? 4. Your one favourite book - the most fav. of all time? Thank you!
okay wait you need to read American Gods by Neil Gaiman!! It's so mythological and not so much fairytalish (I know what you mean, he has that vibe in other books too) please give it a try :)
9:56 YES! one of the reasons I stopped reading YA is because I noticed this so much :( Glad to see someone else out there doesn't like it either xD That and the love triangle thing. I can't. lol One of the reasons I didn't like Hunger Games (besides the awful last book xD) was because while overall Katniss seemed to be a strong female character, they added that stupid love triangle/Team Cute Guy 1 vs. Team Cute Guy 2. Strong Kat don't need no man!
Salut! Je ne sais pas où tu es au Québec, mais je me demandais à quel endroit tu trouvais des livres en anglais à 0,25$? Parce que les bibliothèques dans mon coin ont seulement des vieux livres en français. Merci!
I actually liked the night circus (not my fave book though) and Uprooted got me out of a reading slump. this is probably due to the writing. the book still had a decent chunk of problems. your opinions on these books make ne wonder of you have read Caraval? If yes, what did you think? If not, I would say: don't. It has some very problematic points and the world and character building is worse than in Uprooted imo.
Honestly I loved Finding Audrey. It was my first read by the author and it was one of my favorite books that I read last year. I really connected to Audrey and her romance. Sorry you didn't like it.
Uglies was halfway okay. Then you get to pretties and things get 100X worse. Thalia gets more annoying. And there's a certain repeated phrase that gets overused to the point of annoyance. You're not missing much. I'm generally not a fan of James Patterson but Honeymoon and Beach House are decently good... they're mysteries but kind of ridiculous ones. Like, real life would never play out this way. I hope your reading experiences continue to get better!
