I can never understand why people take these videos so seriously 😂 NO BOOKS WERE HARMED IN THE MAKING OF THIS VIDEO. THEY SHALL BE REHOMED TO A LOVING BOOK HOOMAN!!
I wouldn’t be able to get rid off one book in a series, I would either give away all the books or keep them all for the sake of my collection, most likely I would keep them so I guess I’m a hoarder
I realized today's video had no sound thanks to me forgetting to turn on my microphone so this video is posted earlier than planned... hence me referencing my May Wrap Up when it's not up yet :P Enjoy :D
I just wanted to let you know that a majority of the books I own are based on your recommendations/reviews. You're like my sole source of information about books. Never stop making videos here, please😋 Of all the books I've gotten based on your recommendations, the only ones I didn't like were Every Heart A Doorway and You. Everything else 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻.
Same!! I get books based on her recommendations and refer back to her videos when I’m out shopping for more. Favorite book tuber, can’t really stand watching anybody else
Both of them I gave 3.5ish starts so it's understandable! I feel like they're both overhyped but can be interesting depending on your taste. I'm really happy you're enjoying my recommendations :)
The Agatha Christie one hurts me a bit to be honest. ^^ I love her books, they are a very big comfort to me somehow. I re-read them constantly and especially like to listen to the audiobooks. I unhauled a few....well maybe around 200? books last year. I am the type of person that just keeps them until there isn't enough space but then it's also not very difficult to get rid of enough cause by then i have forgotten the boring ones and can easily chuck them out. I would love to see another try-a-chapter-tag video from you 😊
I love unhauling books - I find it tough initially as I do want to own every book I've read but I definitely don't need books I didn't like so it's super cathartic removing that negativity lol!
Last month I unhauled around 200 books from my collection. Most of them were books I bought about 10 years ago and probably will never read or books I didn't like.
I have a hard time unhauling books. I never know if I'll change my opinion about a book after a second read so I keep them if I think I'll reread them. Usually I have to hate and be super uninterested in the book before I am okay to getting rid of it. If it sits on my shelf for at least 1 to 2 years and I don't reread it then I get rid of it. The last books I unhauled was "The Female of the Species," "Where'd You Go, Bernadette," "Anna Karenina," and "Don Quixote." They were a mixture of audio and print books. The first two I waited for the hype to die down and read them, but they didn't live up to the hype. The last two I didn't really care for enough to reread it.
A Court of Thorns and Roses was awful. I've held on to my copies, because they're so popular, but I have been debating on getting rid of them for a couple of years know.
I have the sky is everywhere and I’ll give you the sun but I haven’t read either. The weird thing is, I’ve always read her name as JENNY Nelson. When anyone’s spoken about her books I’ve always heard ‘Jenny’ and not jandy. It wasn’t until this video when I actually saw jandy on the cover and went back and listen to what you said that I realised. It feels weird, kind of like the Mandela effect
I also enjoy unhauling books. Like you I prefer to rid myself of the ones I dont love or think of as only "okay". I havent gotten rid of any this year yet, simply because my reading has been slowing down lately so I don't have any that I feel the need to rid myself of
Yes! Do a "try a chapter" video for the books, I love those!!

I find it super hard to unhaul books for some reason (yes, even the ones that I didn't like!). I don't know if it's because I know I've spent money on them or what, but I tend to hoard them all instead!
I really enjoyed the light between the oceans, I thought the character building was really good. I couldn’t take sides because all of them were right from they point of view.
I can't be the only one who was constantly looking at how perfect her liner and her lash application was//??? like i legit could not concentrate on anything else.!! also girl drop that lip colour name like asap!!!! Love xx
Mmmm declutter! 💜💜💜 I felt the same way about the Hobbit *hides* And the Giver… I reread it as part of a Dystopian Lit class in college after having read it in high school… I can tell you, I had a 100% different interpretation of the ending in high school from what I have now, and it was eye opening. I don’t know if I’ll reread it, but I purchased it as part of her boxed set of 4 books, so I’m going to read those and then make a decision on the collection as a whole. (It’s not a series, just a collection by the same author with similar content/ideas running through them)
I loved The Nest hahaha It's funny how books work in mysterious ways, because I never can remember a thing about books and I remember nearly everything about it
You had me in stitches laughing, your comments on Blake crouch too funny! And please don’t take this the wrong way as I know you don’t pronounce the H in French but when you said Hitchcock I nearly feel off my chair with laughter 😂 Love your book reviews and recommendations keep them coming ❤️❤️ from Australia
BookswithEmilyFox I have the tendency to hoard my books. But in my defense, I read a lot of series so I gotta keep them together in case I want to reread it lol I only get rid of books I dont finish because I don't like them.
I have a hoarding problem and so like to keep all my books, which means I've got quite a few books now. My mum on the other hand gets rid of books quite frequently because most of them she'll read only once.
I tend to hoard my books lol. The only time I get rid of them is if I absolutely hate them or DNF them more than 3 times (sometimes my mood is off so I give it 3 chances or it’s gone).
I 100% hoard my books and if I realy, realy don't like a book I put them in storage with my parents books that did not deserved a place on my book shalva😂
I know EXACTLY how you feel about The Hobbit. I recently tried reading it for the third time, and managed to get to the ending by skipping through the final 100 pages. I was just so freaking BORED! I'm super disappointed though and I'll be unhauling it soon too because I just don't want it on my shelves.
I am a very frequent unhauler! Like you, if I'm not going to reread it, I don't keep it--even if it's 4 stars or higher! I've got a big unhaul coming up but the last book that I moved into my "unhaul" box/area was East of the Sun, West of the Moon by Jessica Day George. A good, not great, fairytale retelling and I've read so many amazing ones (it's basically my favorite subgenre of fantasy) that I just don't have room for mediocre ones on my shelves!
Good behavior the tv show is definitely worth the watch! I heard you talk about it on your channel in another video and decided to give it a try and ended up binge watching the two seasons that are out! It’s a very frustrating show (the main character), but sooo good. I recommended trying it out.
I did my first unhaul since I ever owned some books (which basically is all my life) a few weeks ago but I think I won't do it again because I really love hoarding all of my books. I've also bought the first two books of a series in 2015, didn't like and never finished the first one, never started the second but I still keep them because part 3 and 4 will be out this summer and I still want to give them a try :D
So many people are turning against Sarah J Maas recently xD I tried reading Court of Thorns when it first came out and gave up after the second chapter because the MC was being completely bitchy about her sisters which I immediately felt was out of order. Anywa, GREAT VIDEO! I love unhauls for some reason xD I am always more interested in why people don't like something or why they're doing something 'negative' like an unhaul.
Obviously not saying your opinion is wrong, but honestly I feel like Feyre’s feelings against her sister’s are totally reasonable cause she was out there fighting for her and their lives, while they just sat there and did nothing
YOUR SHIRT 😍! I haven’t had to unhaul much, thank god. But I definitely need to get rid of Shadow Scale - every time I see that damn book on my shelf it triggers me. Such a waste of money 😡
I totally get the unhauling of books. Great video. Honestly to each there own on taste. I will say that The Light Between Oceans is one of my favorit reads in the last few years, I absolutely loved it, same when it comes to And then there were None, I read it as a teenager and then reread it twice, apparently I am fortgetful (not the third time). I love her mysterys.
I reccomend reading the Waking Land. It was worth the read. I did a review of the book around the time it was released. I think you will appreciate the lack of a love triangle and that the romance involved is both a slow born and doesn't overshadow the main plot. I would like to see you do a try a chapter video of these books. I don't think I have ever heard of the other books.
Oh jeez, I have quite a few of these books on my shelf and haven’t read them yet. I actually just bought the Grishaverse trilogy. Yay for book unhauls though, now you have space for more! 😉
I live in Montreal and every book you've mentioned you read in school for second language english class, I had to read them too. Great video! I love your honest opinion!
I'm currently reading Siege and Storm and so far I'm liking a lot more than I anticipated, I heard many people say it's their least favourite book in the trilogy, so maybe my expectations weren't that high, who knows. Have you read LOTR or just seen the movies? Because the books are daunting, if I didn't love that story thanks to the movies I wouldn't have been motivated to start the books. Same thing with The Hobbit, I finished it after watching the films.
That's odd because Siege and Storm was my favorite of the trilogy. Ruin and Rising was my second favorite, so I guess it just goes to show everyone's reading tastes are different
kelly r So far Agreed, so far I like Siege and Storm a lot more than Shadow and Bone, but I've heard a lot of people say they like it the least... To each their own I guess!
Great thrillers that are not geared towards moms or just older women are written by Karin Slaughter and Lisa Gardner. They are very gritty, and have twists that you can't see coming a mile away. A good starter for Karin Slaughter books is Pretty Girls.
I declutter my books all the time. Awhile back I got rid of at least half my books because we were supposed to be moving across the country, but as you know my health failed, but I don't really regret giving away any of the books. I used to love chick lit and a lot of YA series that I wouldn't read now so they were just taking up valuable space. I think next to go is The Hunger Games Trilogy. I liked it at the time but I can't see myself rereading it. I already got rid of the Divergent series for the same reason. Now I wish I could get back some of my favorites that Ive lent to people!! But I forget who I lent them too lol
Oh I would love to have this edition of The Hobbit. It's sold out and is becoming a collector now. It would go perfectly with my Fahrenheit 451, Neuromancer and I, Robot from the same collection.
I've had to move from one side of the country to the other and back again so I have had to unhaul all but my most precious books. As sad as it was at the time it's great to be able to collect books from a fresh start.
I tried to read 'The Sky is everywhere' but I just couldn't get into it. I found it difficult to follow the main characters motives and thoughts... The premise of 'I'll give you the Sun' sounds very interesting though!
Emily, BEWARE: I'm listening to Clare Mackintosh's new novel, 'Let Me Lie', and the protagonist is a mom! It's annoying when authors recycle their protagonists, eh? This is my first Mackintosh novel, but I just finished Jane Harper's 'The Dry' AND 'Force of Nature' and they were both awesome!!! I highly recommend those :)
I understand that it might be a bit of a "write about what you know" or even the stereotype of "lol i'm a wine mom so i have time to read romance and thrillers"... but damn it it's repetitive! I definitely want to read The Dry!
"The giver"'s sequels are slightly connected to the first one. they are largely independent, also quite dystopian(they explore different aspects of a dystopian world). Check the other ones out, even if you didn't like that particular one ! :D
Oh I should have been clearer, I did like The Giver! I'm just not planning on rereading it and I have other dystopian books I like better that's all :)
I just found out there is a Brain on Fire movie starring Chloe Moretz coming out on Netflix in June. I think a movie format will work well for that story.
I just read The Steel Remains by Richard Morgan, and my complaints are the exact same as yours were for Altered Carbon. Someone commented on my wrap up that all the weird sex is in all his books, so I'm out on his books going forward.
I watch unhauls not only I am curious about unpopular opinions but also it makes me curious to even read those books more. I borrow books or read e-books. I only buy a book or a book series if it is a book or a book series that I really want to own.
That's true, the reason I didn't like a book could be the reason you'll love it! I tend to accumulate physical books quite a bit since I buy most of them used, my library has great sales (3 books for 1$)! If I buy I new book I'm definitely more difficult!
Words on bathroom floor is actually good if you like reading books about schizophrenia , the boy is about 16 and there is a not so amazing romance so i think that will put you off😂 but i did enjoy the mental illness aspect of the book and it's a short quick read so i think you should give it a shot
Good Behavior (the show) is excellent and one of my favorites. I can’t wait for season three! Good Behavior (the book) is awful and I could only make it halfway through it before I deleted it from my kindle. (I watched the show before I tried to read the book, but I feel like I still would’ve hated the book.)
That try a chapter sounds interesting. I feel your issue with the YA in sub boxes. Most of the time I watch and unboxing and am glad I didn't get the box. I got a bunch of different types of fantasy in the Magic Chest boxes, it's about 50% YA, but I've only gotten one YA book so far that I thought was amazing. DNF'ed a few and haven't finished some. Have to say though: I got The Toy Makers by Robert Dinsdale in one of the boxes (it's adult bodering magical realism). It's a fairy tale like story that feels to me like a better version of The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern and also a bit like The Miniaturist by Jessie Burton. I loooved it so much.
I just got that book The Waking Land the other day for free at Comicon where I live. I hope it's something I may like I'm not sure because it looks like a contemporary. Even if I don't like it I got free. Just saw free books and grabbed what they gave us.
I noticed that the book Ruined is sitting on your shelf above the Queen of Hearts. What are your thoughts on those books? Some people have been suggesting that I read them but I need an opinion I can rely on :)
Wow, you were bored by The Hobbit? I've only heard the opposite that the Lord of the Rings books are slow and boring, which is why I've never read them. We read the Hobbit in school, and I feel like that is a classic you should just keep around. But, totally makes sense with the types of books you like. LotR is more of an epic fantasy (with big battles and everything) and the Hobbit is like an adventure set in a fantasy world.
I enjoyed the hobbit. I read the first book of LotR and it is slower. It seemed like the second book would pick up but stuff just happened and I never got to reading the rest.
Je ne lis pas de livres en français a moins qu'ils aient été écrits en français. Je planifie en lire cet été, je ne sais pas si je vais en parler en français ou en anglais!
I get the murder mysteries and moms who drink thing, why moms probably enjoy them haha. Im not a mom but, that's because I can see how terrible and exhausting it must be to be a mom when you strip all the societal glamourizing, rosy lenses crap. Pregnancy, birthing and taking care of basically a parasite, especially for those first needy months sounds traumatizing. And women are expected to be happy and grateful for the whole thing. I don't drink, like ever but, I would want to start drinking. I don't know how our moms love us when we basically tortured them for like 3-4 years.
I find these videos so addicting! Probably healthier for my budget too, instead of being obsessed with hauls. I am starting an unhaul pile - last ones on that pile were the Six of Crows duology. Was super disappointed and probably won't reread them. Also someone else will def want them
Also, I am also kinda sick of the "mum" thing in thrillers. Actually I am kinda sick of women being the victim in all these... I mean bad stuff happens to men too. Not that I don't like having women being the main character, I am just tired of women always being the victims.
I got rid of a court of thorns and roses too lol. I returned it (gasp!) And bought the second one instead. I would get rid of the third one too if i could sell it. But i did keep and recently reread a court of mist and fury and still loved it!
The second book is the best part for me. The third is meh and the first I would just never touch again. But I keep them together because I do enjoy the trilogy
Lol I swear you're the only person I know who like Shadow and Bone more than the later books in the series, but hey everyone's preferences are different. I take it you're probably not that interested in the King Nikolai book coming out in January then?
When I've read a book now, i give mine to charity for them to resell Very rarely someone in my family will read one Kept a handful that I can't bear to part with Do keep graphic novels though; somehow seem more likely to reread and like them in my bookcases Too many books, too little time
