Tbh I think you really undervalue the impact of Valor Skills. Some classes instantly go from "might consider including" to a must-have solely because of their valor skills, especially in TZ mode where item usage is extremely limited and a bit of added damage can spell the difference between winning a round of of combat and permanently losing an entire unit. It's also kind of a big ommital to not discuss movement type and stamina and whatnot, which IMO is just as important as stats and battle skills. You're essentially making a coliseum tier list.
@calitz87
@calitz87 3 месяца назад
So True. I can't sing the praises of the Berserker's "Toughness" skill enough, you gain 1 stamina every 2 battles with Alain or Gilbert as leader and for 1 stamina you can negate the stamina cost of those 2 battles. 😂

He cannot make that kind of tier list. It is too complex for someone who glorified damage output. So he just taken everything in online or colliseum setting. The tier list would be different if he considers the whole game. Like angel classes line arealdy too late so they are not that useful. He should add when the classes could be recruited and available. If he ignores valor then he already ignored 50% of the battle system in the game. Valor could be a game changer. There are many situations that they would save your ass with valor.

I find these tier lists of yours helpful in deciding my unit comps, Legman! Especially the thoughts you express in this one. I see a few different things here and there that make me glad I watched. Having a bit of extra insight as to what each class wants, whether it verfies or validates anything I'm seeing in them myself, or gives me new insight for future unit comps and changes, is good!

The archers feel like such endgame bosses. Arbilists and Elven's are kind of side-grades to what you already have and then they start rolling out the +PP/+AP bows and suddenly they feel crazy useful and easy to use

I know you’re in Albion in your playthrough right now. Just a side note, doom knights and featherstaves pair together extremely well. Holy cradle can keep a doom knight from dying at 1hp (also freeing up an accessory slot if you were using the power belt which provides the toughness passive) which synergizes with its skills that increase damage at lower health. As well as preemptive heal a doom knight to keep it from dying in another situation. Also just kind of cool thematically too that a sort of demonic knight and Angel work together well.

Hot take: Prince is only S tier when you can have 5 members in a unit. Before that, there will probably be a fourth unit you can think of who can provide more utility/synergy. Granted, it's A tier before that. Also I think one's evaluation of how good elven archers are depends on how willing you were to hire generic mercs. When you're mostly using unique units, an elven archer's ability to keep debuffs off of a unit is clutch, but generic clerics/bishops are also right there. While the elven archer will still be more proficient in regards to cleansing, a cleric obviously has more outright healing capabilities.

I think now I’m actually wondering just how much the way you’ve played the game so heavily with mercs has changed your experience compared to others like myself. Even on my original Expert run, I’d unlocked promotion pretty early into Drakengard and by the time I’d reached Castle Soldraga about 60-70% of my active units had already been promoted. The idea of even getting far enough through Elfheim to reach Sibyl without having more than enough honours for everyone else to be fully promoted is wild to me. I’m not sure if I was also expecting you to talk a bit more about the already placed units, since a lot of them have access to new level 10/15 skills that could significantly change their kits in the mid-game that they didn’t before (since the first list really only covered Start-Scarlet rescue which is around level 8 iirc)

I apologize in advance if your future videos address the topic of my comment. I’m nearly done with Drakenhard, and if the game keeps up map design like this, than I can’t help but griffon rider as one of the best classes in the game. As I feel you might be undervalue the mobility flying and cavalry classes provide. 1) flying. That is just so powerful. It allows you to bypass inconvenient terrain, and skip huge detours. 2) griffon rider’s haste buff (and even better promoted air version) is incredible. Pair that with some cavalry and you’ll be able to reach side objectives in the blink of an eye. I’ve also been getting great use out of the teleport and swap valor skills. Combine that with a griffon rider and you can complete a side objective on the other side of the map then get right back to the action in an instant. In-combat utility is very powerful, don’t get me wrong. But all the combat utility in the world means nothing if I can warp skip the map with a griffon rider hasted up 2-3 cavalry classes.

Thanks for explaining your reasoning for ranking and i see now why you and i differ alot (especially on the topic of elven archers) on our class analysis. you are ranking classes to see how easy they can fit into any squad and contribute to generic matchups. Matchups that i'd probably consider easy. Elven archers indeed dont shine in those matchups as other classes. I personally like to rank classes based on how useful they are in beating the toughest challenges in the game (typically taking on L50 coliseum foes as early as L25-L30). this is where elven archers shine as debuffs from classes like druids, wyvernmasters, featherbows, wereowls, rogues, etc will screw over your party's schtick. Elven archers allow you to power through that with their pure field and allow you to handle armors with mystic conferral. elven archers (and eltolinde) basically allow players to create low level board nuke squads that can counter counters. Thus once the squad is built, it just rolls and rolls beating enemies well above the levels it should beat. And thats how i'd appreciate classes. How good is the class at punching (or helping others punch like in the case of elven archer) way above their levels? so supports/utilities that have good buffs (especially not limited), board nukers and evade tanks (these handle higher level challenges easier than guard tanks) are the ones i'd rank in the S or A tiers. I dont really care if a class requires a specific setup, is great out of the box or not, merely can they be elite at something when you have that ideal setup.

The best unit I can think of to pair with Prince would be Ochlys, but even then the synergy only works super well when you reach Bastorias due to Feathersword getting their 2 AP skill. Before then it felt weird trying to fit him anywhere as a lot of other units I have built also have start of battle skills that I prefer like Berengaria, Alain, Vanessa, Aubin (Vikings). Without Rapid Order he feels like an incomplete package, but with it he feels like he has anti synergy with a lot of other really good units. The absolute best pair I could get for him at recruit was with Dreadnaught and that involves cheesing arena for an extremely OP unit for that point in the game, she doesn’t need him but there is no anti-synergy.

Doom Knights with Gilbert is pretty darn fun! Buffs on buffs, with either a cleric to keep everyone alive or a druid to keep damage off you in the first place. Probably a bit messy to work around, but it’s pretty neat when you get those buffs rolling!
@aureliodeprimus8018
@aureliodeprimus8018 3 месяца назад
Gilbert works best in a team of units that are already self sufficient. Featherswords, most Bestral units and Amalia are a good example. I use him in a squad with Aramis, Amalia and Hilda in the front and him and Primm in the back. Aramis usually either slashes an enemy to bits with Meteor Slash or triggers at least one block for a boot in the face follow up by Amalia. Hilda can burn the back line with Flame Breath and Amalia just does her thing.^^ Granted this comp doesn`t like mages, but there are other squads for that.
@TarundiMC
@TarundiMC 2 месяца назад
Same, I kept trying to tweak his squad to get it to be decent but it was always in the bottom half in terms of performance. Since a lot of his buffs are AP driven, you need to pump his initiative to get them to go out early enough, and he doesn't heal so you still need a healer, so that's 2 support slots already. Most of my units have a dedicated tank so that drops down to only 2 attackers, either that or you need tanky attackers, maybe a decent spot for a gladiator, but you're basically needing to build your unit around him which goes against the spirit of this tier list. I like him on paper, but in practice I'd put him B tier. I'd take a shaman/druid any day of the week over Prince for support. If you could get 6 person units I'd say he would fit in much better.

I'll go for a TZ run with no mercs and no mirrors, to draw the true potential of every single main and side character I get, and also limiting my numbers of specific classes. After I'm done with that I'll come up with my own tier list, to see how it compares with yours.

I tried so hard to cook with the Elven archers, it’s just too awkward for the power output and IMO works better everywhere else but Elheim (at least it’d work better in Cornia and Dragonhold, even in a theoretical “unpromoted” elven archer build. To make a comparison, if you want to make use of the Elven unit’s heal you gotta either get a soldier, arbalest, or a spare unit with a first aid kit, save a passive point for the end of battle, and heal the elf OR get a Cleric or Scarlet to quick heal the elf, which is easier to activate but it is very dependent on if you actually need that much healing from one attack. That’s a lot of setup for one ability to pop off. To make use of Sellsword’s following slash, you get hit and you would want to buy the glasses. That and spending 1 valor for 3 charges of free ranged assist goes crazy, the rain is good but a bit chapter and setup dependent.
@ness6099
@ness6099 3 месяца назад
Also part of why Ren is so strong is that her buttons just do more than the others in the game. 1 PP for reducing attack AND init, 1 AP for a row cleave stun that does 150 potency on afflicted enemies and innate pursuit follow up heal that restores itself on afflicted targets… like what? She even gets provoke and a way to do damage and yoink 2 stamina off an enemy. Her buttons are just… unfair!
@TheRobversion1
@TheRobversion1 3 месяца назад
I think you're not seeing the value in elven archers because you arent putting your squad in situations where they are relevant. The healing of elven archers is just a cherry. What it does better than any other class in the game is they are enablers/anti-counters and shine on the "hardest" challenges. for example want to take on L50 coliseum fights at L25-30? most squads will lose. why? reactionary debuffs (no bishop refresh wont save it) like shining wind from featherbow or a wereowl's quick dispel. pure field from the elven archer (as well as boon of the faeries from eltolinde) allows your squad to power through those and get your schtick off whether its great knight column spam, warrior row nukes or the different board nukes. Elven archers make sure whatever offense you need to happen before an enemy hurts your squad severely happens. They enable. Going against armor? mystic conferral your board nuker. got mass debuffed/damaged? Set up someone to heal the elven archer so they can selfless heal. Their biggest selling point in any optimal squad is allowing you to punch through counters and 20 or so levels above what you'd normally handle. they arent great out of the box and dont really shine in the normal combats you encounter as you go through the game. They shine if lets say you're L25 and wanted to start doing the endgame quest or taking on albion. IMO they are one of the best support units in the game and something i'd include in every squad if i wasnt playing with a no generics restriction. I'd couch this with a caveat that if you like scouting enemy team comps then always adjusting your equips based on enemy debuffs (like equipping clearsight amulets when facing featherbows) then elven archers lose a bit of value. Personally, i dont do that. I dont change equips on the fly and stick with whatever the default build/comp of a unit/squad, they should be able to handle any situation.

@chadachi3970 3 месяца назад
@@MuchoLocoWell no, when you first get Dark Marquess you’re in the early-mid game so the class is vastly OP compared to everything else you have for another good 3-4 maps as hitting B renown before getting Liza and Glouster is pretty difficult, and even then if you’re not hardcore honor farming and just playing the game then you’re not gonna have everyone promoted, also depends on how many units you have unlocked as that also costs honors. If you have 6-7 units then you can maybe promote Alain + 4-6 character/classes if they’re the cheaper promos, but otherwise not too many. Either way the class is very much a mid game monster and you get it at the start of Drakenhold which is early-mid, Elheim is the mid game (though you should grab Rosalinde before going to Drakenhold lol).

It's interesting how people can have totally different experiences depending on team comp, items used, tactics, etc. Playing True Zenoiran and my 2 strongest squads both have had Swordfighters/Swordmasters in them front lining. The right support items and they become invincible, alpha-striking killing machines. Also Berengaria is great but she lost the first fight she was in so badly that she almost died on my game so I used a feather to quickly rush over and save her. Otherwise mostly agree with this list. Arbalists have also been doing work for me, placed two shield shooters in front of three hunters to make an assist squad that can also fight. Every once in a while they will absolutely body a boss that would normally chunk my other powerhouse squads. Recruiting the occasional mercenary really opens up squad composition since some classes are very underrepresented by unique characters.

I have one and a half disagree with your tier list. Dark Knights are excellent early-to early mid-game self sufficient tanks thanks to their "Revenge" ability. One proc and they have the tankiness of hoplites, while being able to put a massive dent into them as well with Venombringer. And once they learn Sanguine Arts they can heal themselves up, especially with Axe of Vengeance. Gloucester solo-tanked pretty much from his joining point till Bastorias on his own. They are A tier in my book. The half disagreement i have is about Dragoon Dive. I think of all the "charged aoe abilities" this one is by far the weakest, it does only one hit and basically turns all the strengths of Wyvern Knights and Wyvern Masters off while charging. Hail of Arrows, Blizzard, Trinity Rain (that comparison is unfair though i admit) or Healing Circle don`t require as much build around as Dragoon Dive and have better pay off. Aside from that i have no objections.

I'm loving your list so far, and the thought process behind your rankings. An assessment based on general performance is much more informative and useful compared to judging by what a class can do with a specific setup, when the moon is full, and the stars align. It was surprising how you spent so long deflating Elven Fencer, only to still put them in A tier. I think people are more liable to take issue with Elven Archer being lower than Fencer, though personally I'd put them both in B, reason being that Fencer might be more immediately powerful out of the box but isn't quite good at pulling off the evasive frontliner concept it's leaning into, while Archer fits snuggly into a support role even if she doesn't work ideally without a specific setup.

Ok, it’s iffy for me to put Prince in the list because isn’t he available only at the end of Drakonhold? And wouldn’t that be at the point here most all the units are already available for promotion? And isn’t he already fully promoted himself? Also, prior to getting him you’d already be able to put together the dragoon dive wyvern squads w/c would be the one of the top super squads for midgame onwards? Not to mention the 2 unique elves as well. Essentially, my TZ game was simply rushing as fast as possible to Drakenhold and promotion so I can put together the super squads to crush the rest of the content. Past that point, game was easy.

@@TitaniumLegman because aren’t tier lists about power levels relative to the other classes? And if you’re bringing in the prince and the elves, doesn’t that mean that you are essentially stating that mid-game is around the time of drakenhold or elheim? Which means that would be where classes are promotable and weapons like the dragoon lance is available. Which means that if you are comparing class with other classes within different points of the game’s power-creep? Like yes if you compare the Feathsword to a warrior around the time where squads are composed of unpromoted units in 3-4 man squads, then yes it’s pretty strong. But later on when units are all promoted and you have 5-man teams, it’s underwhelming. TLDR: If you compare early-game units with early-mid game builds to units that arrive late-mid game and are allowed late-mid game builds, that’s essentially apples to oranges isnt it? @@TitaniumLegman Well I thought you said “based on largely how the class functions around the time you get it”? Perhaps that is what may have confused me here. From how I understood you meant, that would mean the Prince would be around the time you’ll be fielding 4-man promoted teams and as such the tier comparison would be against against other classes available at the time (w/c would be promoted). Where the Prince’s ability to buff just doesn’t quite shine yet as It starts to shine when you’ve got your somewhat geared 5-man teams. At least to my experience, unless there’s a 4-man team comp with the Prince I’m missing of course. Although to be fair, I rushed to Drakenhold to get my dragoon lance asap to put together my first super team so our experience may differ. Anyway, this is also why I felt characters like the elves and the Prince are better placed among the promoted classes as they are already maxed promoted by default. But these are just suggestions man. No need to take it personally.
