Replacing the plastic foot on my Delta UniFence with a bearing glide. This should keep any more damage from being done to the surface of the tablesaw.
Used a scrap piece of Maple I got from a Pallet and some old bearings and bolts from a pair of Rollerblades.

Cool idea. Just picked up a unisaw of the same vintage. My butt clenched up a little when you had fingers so close to the radial arm and drill press. You should make a clamp system with T track for both of those.

You rock man! Been trying to think up a fix for this for years! I’m going to machine (I’m a die maker) mine out of aluminum but use your idea, thanks!

I do have a unifence and I do have that same trouble with the foot. I ordered a new one but the stem was still short and maybe my threads have a bit of wear. So I backed it off for all this time thinking that the foot is useless. Now I put your roller foot on there. It slides back and forth like smooth. Thanks for your time in making the video.

Sweet. I had the same thought myself, but to see it in action. Now, I have no doubts. The suggestion that I can offer is to create some kind of wiper to keep the bearings from running over sawdust. You find wipers on all kinds of equipment. Thx a lot for sharing.

Router bit bearings are a great source of multiple bearing sizes. Rockler and many others carry them.

Great video. I’m on a mission to find out how to lock my handle. When I hold it straight out towards me and let it go it just flops straight down facing the floor. Does yours do that? No matter what I try adjustment wise a cannot get it to lock down on its own and stay. It has zero tension on it. If I hold it down pushed in tight the fence will not move until I let go. I use a quick clamp it’s a PITA. My dad got it from an older friend that passed and we’ve never had it working correctly

That looks like one of my son's "thomas the train" parts from a distance.

I wonder if they make bearings with a nylon surface, just to eliminate the possibility of scratching. Or maybe they'd be worse because grit could get imbedded in them. Hmm. Very nice work, great idea!

+Kevin Blanc Yeah, most hardware stores have replacement wheels for sliding glass doors that are Nylon which would work fine. I used the bearings as I had them.

+Michael Olson. I agree. I installed a shower door ball bearing roller on the back end of my after-market Vega fence on the Ridgid R4312 table saw> it makes a notable difference in how smoothly the fence slides along the table top. I also installed two nylon pan head screws between the fence head structure where it fits down into the front support rails that are attached to the saw. Two 1/4" threaded holes have to be drilled and tapped. It was easy to do this, and then to turn the screw head in or out until nearly all play was eliminated. Now when I slide the fence left or right it remains nearly perfectly square to the table and feels refined.

Great idea. you don't see many Unifence's used on other videos. I am going to make your modification. Where did you find the small bearings?

They are old roller blade bearings.

I'm looking at b uying a table saw that comes with a UniFence that looks very similar to yours. Is it worth it?
@BigDaddyOworkshop
@BigDaddyOworkshop 8 лет назад
Well, my whole setup cost $125 so it was worth it to me. In a more recent video I actually cut down the fence rail to 25 1/2" and remove the side table as it was just WAY to big for my half of a 2 car garage. even now I would say it's to big for my space.

Going to pick your brain a bit more here if I can - how "square" are you able to get it and does it stay that way once set? I might have some more questions after I've done a bit more research - any thoughts would be appreciated.

IceTurf Fence is great! the only thing I sometimes have to adjust is that the far end sometime dips down and touches the end of the table, just loosening the side wing nuts, raise it up and tighten down again. Doesn't affect accuracy at all.

Well I picked it up - and I'm finding the unifence is 25 thou out of parallel to a 10" blade and can be moved 1/16" by hand, without a lot of torque. I can't seem to get the fence aligned, I thought it would be more rock solid than it is.

There are many adjustment points on this fence so it should be easy to get it aligned to the miter slot since everything including the blade is typically aligned to the right miter slot. As for flex, it really doesn't mater after the far edge of the blade since the fence really does nothing at that point, so if you want to measure flex, measure against the far edge of the blade at full height.
