Yeah, why not just adopt to the unif network app?! This is crazy. Hope they will not go with this approach for other devices..

As a mobile router... I would expect that it should integrate into a Unifi managed network. I should be able to set up a VPN to my Dream Machine Pro, but it looks like it doesn't support those kind of features. The fact that it is locked to ATT, which has poor coverage in some sections of the US, is also a big negative. It may be okay for tracking some trucks, but any other purpose where you really want a mobile router, for your family in a car, etc... this just doesn't seem like a good value for the money. The fact it doesn't really integrate into my home network, giving automatic access to my Dream Machine Pro via VPN, is a huge oversight. I like the form factor, and the local control screen. Ubiquiti did a nice job on the design, but the software and features for price are really lacking!

I wish I read this before I made my purchase. Based on the lack of features you mentioned, I don’t see the value in this UMR. I guess I’m sending it back.

It states on the website "VPN Client routing" Not sure not 100% sure what that means. Can we connect this permanently via OpenVPN, or WireGuard to our UDM's VPN server? I really wish Ubiquiti would include technical data sheets for every product and not a high level marketing sheet for dummy's with mainly pictures minimal information. Ubiquiti claims some of its products are "enterprise grade" but we cant get data sheets lol

Monthly subscription.... that is a big no for me. If this is the way forward for other devices also it is a bye bye unifi for me

I run away from everything that has subscriptions like the devil from the cross, I like to buy networking hardware NOT renting it. Mikrotik has to continue to be for now.

Ugh, that it is SIM locked (in the USA) makes this a no-go for me.

To all the people who are knocking this, its a VERY good price point, considering its 200 bucks for the unit with decent antenna setup while other newer high-end units are about 600-1k (depending on if 4G LTE or 5G) per with a NIC and no antenna. I am VERY skeptical of using WIFI hotspots or routers only(most units DO NOT have a NIC) as today, they're so many vulnerabilities unless you are using RADIUS, but even then that has its weak spots if hackers know what they are doing. Kali makes this super easy to do considering its free and can get a pineapple for under 200 bucks. This unit is technically more of a failover or hotspot, not for permanent every day high-traffic homes/businesses, unless you are traveling which even then, it still provides decent speeds - 150 Mbps down / 50 Mbps up.

No option to connect to your home network via VPN :( Outdated specs and a (partly) subscription based product. Are Ubiquiti trying to kill themself? They were the smart new guy in class no subscriptions based products. You either die a hero or live to become the villain.

Cat 4 was laughable in a midrange phone in 2017...

Great video! I can’t see what Ubnt are trying to do here, it seems a poorly thought out product. When you compare this to any of the Teltonika routers with their RMS solution the Ubnt looks woeful.

What are good alternatives to this ?
@ItsJustPhillip

Do you have to pay the monthly subscription? I’ve no interest in wireless updates or remote configurations etc. I just want a mobile WiFi router…
@hostifi
@hostifi 25 дней назад
Hey! No, the monthly subscription isn’t required, it’s only for remote management. It functions perfectly well as a mobile router.

@@hostifi thanks for coming back to me, so what’s the difference between this and the Ubiquity UMR Industrial? They are both pretty much the same price.
@hostifi
@hostifi 25 дней назад
@@ItsJustPhillip No worries! The UMR Industrial is exactly the same price as the UMR, at $199. The main difference is the Industrial is outdoor rated and that it supports any unlocked SIM in the US. The UMR in the US is locked to AT&T. Outside of the US, the only real difference is the weatherproofing aspects.

@@hostifi that’s great thank you. As I am in the UK and don’t need it for external use I’ll get the normal one! Thanks again 👍

With UI still not adopting 5G or at least better 4G the limited options of this device by means of management seem like a minor drawback. My summary, for a late 2023 device the specs are really outdated.

Can you unlock this in the USA? Do you think there will be a 5G version? Is the UISP-LTE better than this?
@hostifi
@hostifi Год назад
Thanks for watching! - This cannot be unlocked in the USA. Ubiquiti has locked it to AT&T. - We hope Ubiquiti will make a 5G compatible version, although considering this is marketed towards fleet management, this might not be with us as soon as we'd like. - The UISP-LTE was in the EA program for a short amount of time and is now unsupported by Ubiquiti, we wouldn't recommend using it going forward.

Hey thanks for watching, unfortunately not at this time. Hopefully Ubiquiti adds support for this in a future release.

This device is nothing more than WiFi hotspot. Really surprised it cant act as an extension to an existing UniFi network.

Locking to ATT implies that the cost to use cellular is high ... will the European version work in the use?
@hostifi
@hostifi Год назад
Thanks for watching, it might work. It is worth checking that the carriers you want to use in the US support the bands the EU version supports. Otherwise, it 'might' work. US Version Bands Supported: - LTE: B2, B4, B5, B12, B14, B66 EU/UK Bands Supported: - LTE: B1, B3, B7, B8, 20, B28 - 3G: B1 and B8

Is it 5€ per UMR or can you manage more than one with that subscription? What can you do on the local access? Is it the same as wenn you manage it through the cloud?

Ubiquiti requires the subscription to manage it remotely, unfortunately.

Since there is no option to enable roaming it is basically useless for travelling in the EU. What are people using this for if not for travelling?
