In this video we take a look at the Unifi switch aggregation. This is a new 8 port 10gb sfp+ switch from Ubiquiti networks.
We do an unboxing, Rack it , and create a link aggregation to give us a 20gb pipe between our Unifi switch Aggregation and our Unifi switch pro 24.

Thanks for the succinct video. One point of clarification though -- it's not quite right to say you now have a 20Gbps link because a LAG doesn't mean all streams get increased bandwidth. Iperf3, for example, will still top out at 10Gbps across the LAG, and this is because each data stream is still constrained to one path or the other. The LAG does provide some overall load balancing, and redundancy should one path or the other fail, but keep in mind no single data stream can exceed the speed of whichever port the LAG algorithm tells it to use. So TWO simultaneous iperf3's might reach a combined 20Gbps, but no one of them will exceed 10Gbps. Hope that makes sense to you and your viewers, cheers!

Awesome video. Question. Do you have issues with it disconnecting? Mine looks like XG16 > Agg > 24Pro, US48 All aggregated. My AGG switch keeps disconnecting though. But when I connect directly to router or XG16 everything seems good. Weird.

You brought up an interesting point about a single point of failure. I have been trying to solve this in my own setup. Internally, not externally, I'm likely to only ever have 1 ISP. However internally, I think it should be possible to have the switch (shortly to be this one) connected to my UXG-Pro connected to the closets on the first floor and the second floor, and then the closets on the first and second floor connected to each other. So if the connection between the Basement aggregation switch and the second floor is lost, everything re-routes through the connection between the 1st and second floor, and the connection from the first to basement now carries all the traffic until the situation is resolved. However I can't seem to get it to work, whenever I make all the connections all the traffic starts going Basement -> 2nd -> 1st, and the connection from basement to 1st goes into a blocking state. The basement switch has the highest priority and the 1st and 2nd floot switches have equal priority. And idea? Maybe if you know the trick you could produce a video on it?

Very nice looking setup, I had a question, how did you get the USW Aggregation switch to show up so you could adopt it. I only bought fiber optic cables to connect to it with the sfp connectors. But when I had plugged the switch into the Gateway, the white light shows up, but I get a IP address on the lcd screen that is not accessible. I just noticed you used a DAC cable to connect yours so do you know if that will work better. This is my first go at anything UNIFI, and I just learned int he last 24 hours that they do not offer any type of phone support. All of my questions are above the Tier 1 Chat support, so they tell me to go to the community or wait for Tier 2 to reach out by email. So any help on this would be greatly appreciated.

Nice video. I got the UDM PRO SE and I connect to the USW Enterprise 24 POE using a 1GB RJ45 cable. On the USW I connect my NAS and my Desktop on the 10GB SPF+ (using the adapter to RJ45). I start at 10GB/s transfers, but then it drops to regular 1GB/s. I am using a SSD to make sure transfer is fast. First thing I realized is, I always get regular 1GB/s speeds when I have the desktop on one vlan and the NAS on another vlan. If they are on the same vlan, it starts at 10GB/s and then it drops. It seems like using different vlans it all goes over the UDM PRO SE, which has a 1GB/s only. I wonder if I added the aggregation and both NAS and Desktop were connected to it, I could get faster speeds. Or maybe I am doing something else wrong. :)

Would you be able to verify if this works on the regular Aggregation as well? This would be a huge benefit to a lot of Fiber customers looking for 2.5Gbps GPON negotiation at the price it's at. Just wondering should you not have one fiber cable and one deck Cable in the same lag ? Ideally shouldn't they be the same cable type. Theoretically there's going to be some differences in their latency. ? IDK if that matters though ?
@koma-k
@koma-k 3 года назад
Shouldn't matter - traffic between two given endpoints will always go over the same connection; this also means that they will never see more than 10Gb/s. You need multiple traffic streams to actually go beyond 10Gb/s throughput for a LAG
@Reedith

@koma-k
@koma-k 3 года назад
@@Reedith yes and no... a single datastream or "conversation" as the IEEE standard calls it cannot exceed single-link speed, so you have to do something extra to deliberately spread the load. The short explanation: The LACP standard specifies that any algorithm can be used to distribute frames (packets) among links, provided they 1) arrive in order and 2) there is no duplication. To ensure point 1, only one link can be used per "conversation", as per-port buffers, retransmits etc. could conceivably cause packets travelling over different links to arrive out-of-order. LACP can use various functions to choose which link a packet travels over - traditionally a simple XOR "hashing" of either MAC adresses or IP adresses have been common, but according to the Unifi docs it uses: "Hashing based on Source/Destination MAC, VLAN, EtherType, and incoming port associated with the packet". So as long as traffic doesn't all go to the same service/port it will "fill up" all the links given enough simultaneous streams going to either different VLANS, different virtual NICs (i.e. different MACs) etc.
