It's because it's natural. I'm not an expert in ASMR but the fact that a lot of us watch these videos is because there is something in our brain that responds well to these kinds of sounds. I imagine that from when we're young and our brains are developing, we build up positive responses to ASMR because it's soothing, and we all have our own "triggers" that can set it off. For some people it's brushing sounds, for others its a soft accent, and when the sounds happen more naturally and we aren't expecting it we are more positively affected.

I agree. I find when too many asmrtists lose their touch, I can tell that they’re trying. It’s no longer a whisper video or a soft spoken/unintelligible video just for enjoyment of doing so, it’s a sharp whisper with too many tappings. Often I think their thought process is more trigger are better. My opinion is less is more but that’s just me

@@kendra58 Daniel Bennequin (3 January 1952) is a French mathematician, known for the Thurston-Bennequin number (sometimes called the Bennequin number) introduced in his doctoral dissertation. In the mathematical theory of knots, the Thurston-Bennequin number, or Bennequin number, of a front diagram of a Legendrian knot is defined as the writhe of the diagram minus the number of right cusps. It is named after William Thurston and Daniel Bennequin. The maximum Thurston-Bennequin number over all Legendrian representatives of a knot is a topological knot invariant.

This reminds me why I’m going to use online college. I understand things better reading from textbooks and using other sources to learn instead of listening to professors try to explain a concept.

I wish teachers still used chalk boards today... I remember when dry erase became really popular in like '00 or '01. At my school I remember them bringing in huge dry erase boards and screwing them up over the blackboards. A childhood ASMR trigger long gone 😢

I absolutely love watching experts explaining theories carefully and realising that I would have NO IDEA where to start - just like astronomers explaining black hole theory. It's restful just knowing I'll never have to answer an exam question on these topics ..

I had a uni module (class) once with a Polish lady who was almost exactly the same; niche field, softly spoken, heavy accent. No blackboard, which was great. Just a presentation with only diagrams, no annotations or text. Taught myself that particular area of neuroscience.

Amazing! Omg I’d just sit in his class tingling away. My high school math teacher’s lectures made me tingle too. I tried to explain asmr to my friends back then (long before it had a name) and they looked at me like I was crazy. ‘You have a crush on him??’. He was quite old at the time. Haha I did get 80’s and 90’s in his class.

Interesting. First time i felt the ASMR effects was in 1999 when i was taking a math class with a japonese teacher. Class was crowded so i sat on the first row that was a few feet away from the chalkboard. We were all silent and all i could hear was the dashes and dots on the chalkboard. I didnt know what it was so i felt really embarrassed cause i though the tingles i was getting was some sexual response (and the teacher was not even cute).

Same here. Ever since i was a baby i loved the sounds of washing machines, vacuum cleaners, hair dryer etc.. But one time when i was 4 years old there was a postman on the door, he was going through letters and papers, writing and speaking softly. His voice was echoing in the building hall. I felt so limp, like melted butter. I also felt some embarrassment but later i accepted it and enjoyed. I would get ASMR triggers everywhere all the time, by all kinds of people. I started slightly manipulating people just for my relaxation, prolonging the conversation and asking questions i already know, just so they keep talking lol..

@@red_dll Yes soothing. And financially can't afford college. Nothing to talk about really. Just stating if classes were soothing and quiet then that would have been awesome.
@red_dll
@red_dll 4 года назад
@@ambiator8524 Ah I see. Yes, classes in university are usually quiet. Only the lecturer is talking but we can ask questions. These are classes were you basically sit down and listen to a presentation. Some lecturers create them a bit more interactive though. And there are types of classes where you have to do something yourself. You get a presentation for like half a day and then you have to work on the topic of the day (for me it is microscoping so far). Lastly, there are the laboratory classes (for me) where I am in the laboratory and work on different things. Regular classes however are basically like shown in the video or with a powerpoint presentation and additionally writing on a chalkboard. The financial aspect sucks :/ I am lucky enough that I live in germany and here we don't pay that much per semester (I pay like 140€ per semester) and get an ID card with which I can use the public transportation system in a certain area for free. Other universities are more expensive though but not by a huge amount (but they provide a bigger area you can travel with you ID card for free).
