You've got a great eye for games to review, buddy. Obscure enough that it's interesting to watch, but not so obscure that it doesn't have some strong nostalgia for a lot of people. The "You Screwed Up and Are Dying Now!" music from this game is still stuck in my head to this day!

You should try an nes homebrew game called Infested! It's absolutely AMAZING!

I owned "The Uninvited" and both "Deja Vu" games, for the Amiga, the uninvited scared me shitless the first night i played it with that ghost lady. :p

when i was 6 (in 1990) i always acted like i wasn't afraid of scary movies and stuff like my older siblings so when we got to go rent some games one night my sister rented SMB2 and I saw this and wanted to prove i could play a "scary" game and be just fine....yea this game terrified me with the scarlett ghost....had nightmares and until much later if i even saw the box at a rental store i would have a nightmare about it lol but when i got older i finally played it and beat it and gotta say it is probably the closest to a "scary" game on the NES :) has very unsettling mood to it at times.

I love all the Macventure games, but this one is probably my favorite.

I loved all of the point and click games for Nintendo systems. I still have Deja'vu, Shadowgate, and Uninvited. I also have a Game Boy Color two game pack with Deja'vu and Deja'vu 2 on it. Sword of Hope and Sword of Hope 2 for the Game Boy and Game Boy Color, and Rescue: The Embassy Mission which is a faster paced hostage rescue team game with similar imagery for the NES. I've beat them all except Uninvited. After seeing this review I'm nostalgic for these games and should finally get around to beating it.

Shadowgate is my all time, 2nd is Deja Vu, and 3rd is obviously Uninvited. I have the PC versions along with the NES versions. I rather prefer the NES versions because I enjoy the music and the colors are more vibrant than the PC versions imo. Unfortunately, I can't think of any other adventure games than the ones you mentioned for NES which is a shame. I read some responses to questions on that sight for Infested. Turns out the person responsible for creating that game is going to make more! Can't wait for that! Thanks again big man.

Damn, you actually beat this as a kid? Growing up I couldn't beat a single Macventure game :( Deja Vu is still my favorite though. Really wish they'd remake it in the vein of the Shadowgate remake, which is still coming to consoles for those curious.

loved this game as a kid, it creeped me out! It was hard to figure out how to beat it - I would usually get stuck when you go outside and the road forks into the three buildings

Geez man shadowgate was easy as pie compared to uninvited. I have so much trouble playing this game I had to use a walkthrough for part of it . I had an issue of Nintendo Power covering the totality of shadowgate and it hasn't ruined the game for me.

Finished Shadowgate and Deja vu in the 90’s on my NES. Never did hear of Uninvited. Gonna give it a shot on my emulator!!

It's a bit sad, that uninvited never got a Gameboy Color Re-Release like the 2 Deja-Vu Games or Shadowgate. I played Deja-Vu on GBC first and beside of some trials and error, I damn enjoyed the game😃

Regarding the moment at 4:40, perhaps Nintendo hadn't known the meaning behind the name. Weight is lent to this notion by virtue of the fact that there was a character on Yu-Gi-Oh names Alister, whose name may have also been a reference to this, whose name was not changed in the English dub. Regarding the moment at 5:35 likewise, I remember always taking the ruby whenever I played the game as well, assuming it would be important and never realized the connection between it and the devious red skull.

Check out 8-Bit Adventure Anthology on PS4 and probably other platforms. Has all three games ported to NES. The Uninvited, Deja Vu and last but not least, Shadowgate itself. I just beat The Uninvited last night and am working on Deja Vu now. There's trophies for each game awarded for dying in very specific ways in each game, too.

Lots of love for the Kemco Macventure ports on the NES. This one definitely wasn't as good as Shadowgate or Deja Vu, but it has a lot of memorable moments in it.

I'm way late with this comment, but I grew up with this game, 40 years old now, and I have to say the music adds so much to the creepiness of this game. I love Deja Vu and Shadowgate so much too, but this NES version just really did it for a young me. I honestly think it's the most chilling, atmospheric NES game, but that's just me, rose colored glasses and such.

I loved Uninvited and the 2 other titles from MacVenture. Shadowgate is probably everyone's favorite. There were no guides for these when I was a kid though, except for Shadowgate in a Nintendo Power Magazine. So I had to figure them out by trial and error. I think thats why I liked them so much because they had to be solved mostly by common sense, using your head, investigating your surroundings, and examining/reading everything you can for clues. Maniac Mansion was another favorite title of mine on the NES. Great games.

My favorite part of this game had to be the room with the three animals. I don't want to give it away to anyone who hasn't played it, but if you do you'll get a good laugh if you mess up. And just like Shadowgate I enjoy purposely getting killed just to read the fate of your character. I loved this game and well worth playing if you've never had the chance. Thanks again for your time.

I never played Uninvited on the NES, though I dabbled with it briefly in emulator form. I didn't even manage to get out of the car before it burst into flames, lol. However, I played Shadowgate extensively when it first came out through renting and thoroughly enjoyed it, and even though I never beat it that fact didn't stop me from buying the remastered version on PC through Steam, which I highly recommend. Deja Vu though, now that one was my jam! I borrowed it from a friend and managed to muddle my way through and eventually got the best ending! Good times with some great games. Note to self: Grab my android phone and open my _Nostalgia.NES Lite_ emulator, click the _Uninvited_ saved game and DROP THAT DANG RUBY!!!

Im one of the guys who never found out it was the Ruby until the internet broke. I thought the game came that way to make it harder, and I never liked that aspect. Loved my meandering and listening to the tunes and figuring things out.

There was a 1944 film of the same name that must (unless it's an incredible coincidence) have inspired some elements of this game.

Shadowgate is the only one that I have played. I loved it when it was released on the nes. I also bought it when it was released on the Gameboy color.

The box art from this series is awesome! I loved the Shadowgate box, and this one is just horrible enough to attract the curious gamer.

I loved these MacVenture series games, as I made a mention on one of your other videos. The games were just fun, and I gladly got them on the PS4 and of course I got them on the NES and kept them. The music in the game(s) can be memorable, my bedroom was on the 2nd floor of my house and of course that's where my NES was kept and my brother and I would play it there. However when I was playing Uninvited, my mother needed me for something and then the spooky music starts to play and she yells my name. My brother was watching me play and I let out the girlish scream and my brother still teases me about it to this day. Still, gotta say, I loved the "relaxed" feel of these games as you weren't being bombarded in the game and could just play at your own pace. I ended up getting the gameboy color version of Deja Vu 1 and 2, let's just say, I am glad that I was finally able to play the 2nd one in the Deja Vu series but I don't think you'd enjoy it very much, there's a very steep curve in the game and iirc you are on a timer on that game. Oh and last mention, those MacVenture games are available also on ios and on the PC to purchase, and of course, I loved them so much I got them on the ios, pc, and PS4. The PS4 versions are the NES versions of the games, ios and PC versions are of course the Apple versions of the games and can be played in black and white or in color.

This is a GREAT retrospective!

I never owned any of these adventure games but I did rent them from Blockbuster. I never played Uninvited BITD, as the Blockbusters near me never had it. I DID play Deja Vu and I beat Shadowgate.

I remember renting this game from Blockbuster when it came out in 1991. This game was hard as hell, but I eventually beat it after so many rentals. Good memories.

One minor, pedantic correction from a guy with weird interests: Crowley rhymes with "holy" and he would have found the idea of worshipping Satan absurd. He did come up with his own mystical religion called Thelema, but it isn't based on a Judeo-Christian paradigm.

Great game. Never beat it, but I'm not the best at figuring out these old school point-and-click games. There were three of us trying to figure this game out, but we were too stuck to finish it. Might try again someday.

I actually got to play the original MacVenture games on the Macintosh my computer teacher had in junior high. She would let one of us rotate on it every Friday and play our game of choice on it. Deja Vu and Shadowgate were 2 of the games she had, and I LOVED Shadowgate. I made sure to collect them all for the NES later on, too. These games and Maniac Mansion are what started my love of point and click adventure games, and I still revisit them from time to time. Nothing beats the catchy music of Shadowgate.

Nice. I had to shut it off, as excited as I was to see this, I actually have a copy of this and I've barely played it any.... I think I will do that and avoid "spoilers" ; great subject choice , and I'll check back on the vid once I get stuck! (After all these decades I still haven't done a full walk through and beat shadowgate , but I get farther every time I play. These games, and these videos , are great

I am absolutely loving your content, and I am so happy that I followed the ad to your channel! I do have one thing to say though: Crowley isn’t really linked to satanism in any substantial way. He did found a religion/philosophy called Thelema, which is heavily influenced by Buddhism and Hinduism, and also helped Gerald Gardener codify modern Wicca, but satanism is attributed to Anton LaVey, not Crowley.
