This was a pretty good game though I remember hitting a wall with it that I was never able to get past.

Of the three Macventure games ported to the NES, Deja Vu is the only one I managed to beat. I played Shadowgate more extensively, but didn't get as far with that one. I think the more realistic "modern" setting probably contributed to my having an easier time with this one? In any event, I had lots of fun with these games and highly recommend them to anyone who likes a good point-and-click style game. Thanks for the great video and stay safe out there!

The whole waking up in the bathroom, not remembering who you are or what you did, with a wound on you, trying to find answers and with the Noir setting, that reminds me of Dark City.

Ah yes. Deja Vu. Loved this game growing up as a kid. Loved them all. I felt very fortunate to have been able to play all of them: Shadowgate, Deja Vu, and, the Uninvited but they always left me craving for more. Thank you Aaron for this stroll down memory lane. Professionally done, short, sweet, and to the point. You've been cranking vids out like a boss and we can't thank you enough good sir.

Thanks Mike - yeah, always felt like there could have been a few more of these games. Not sure how hard they'd be to conceptualize and program but seemed like we could have gotten a few more. There's a fan made game that is similar in concept called Infested that you may wanna check out. At some point I'm going to take a look at it either on the LP side or perhaps a full review, haven't had a chance to play it for myself, but it looks like it's in the spirit. grahfmetal.itch.io/infested

Yes! *This* was the one I loved playing as a kid. I never really go into Shadowgate (I must never have had a chance to play it much, because it certainly looks awesome enough), but I played the hell out of Deja Vu. Other detective type games that I played back in the day were the Tex Murphy PC games. I think there were at least two of them. I remember thinking they were pretty sweet back then, but I'm guessing they don't hold up too well today :) As always, keep up the great work!
@FridayNightArcade

Hey thanks! .. hmm, never heard of Tex Murphy but now I'm curious lol. Was it like those Carmen Sandiego CDROM games you'd see all in the little jewel cases on the bottom row? Will have to look i to that :D

Nope! Think Blade Runner meets Deja Vu meets Total Recall meets Phantasmagoria. I just looked them up and there were a lot more than I ever played. Mean Streets and Martian Memorandum were the two I was familiar with.

Thank you so much for the kind words. So fun fact... I've never (gasp) played the original NES Legend of Zelda all the way through. Loved Ocarina and Link to the Past was my favorite. I asked for NES Zelda one year for Christmas as a present and ended up getting ... Dr. Mario. It was a very "Nintendo-game-sized-box" under the tree and although I was truly thankful to get anything... and no disrespect to Dr. Mario, it's not an awful puzzle game... but uh, that was a bit of an underwhelming title when I was hoping for a heroic quest through Hyrule lol. And then I ended up being a StarTropics kid after saving up my allowance lol, which was basically Zelda - Lite. I'm sorta saving NES Zelda now because I may do that as a true vanilla playthrough over on the LP channel. Kinda wanna savor the experience.
@fensoxx
@fensoxx 5 лет назад
Enjoy your vanilla Zelda play-through though I can’t imagine finding all the hidden things without a walkthrough. Now-a-day’s there is usually a slight clue for your brain to think maybe there is a secret there but back then they were so random I don’t know how some of them were ever found without a guide. I played original Zelda as a kid for tens of hours until someone told me about a certain secret something or other you could do in dungeons which broke the game wide open for me. Would have been so easy to miss and just give up and shelve it otherwise. No hand holding back then!

this one is awesome!. there were a couple of ports for PC, a very old one that supported only CGA graphics (horrible!) and a more modern one for windows that had nice graphics but it didn't have the music!!!. I was so disappointed!. it loses a lot without the music, so for me the NES version is the definitive one.

Friday Night Arcade - I whole heartedly and honestly enjoy your content and your approach to reviews and gameplay videos. Believe I said it before, but it's refreshing to see someone my age have a channel with great content that is intelligently done. Probably comment quite a bit on you videos, more than most other creators I follow, but your videos strike a cord with me. Your commentary is intelligent yet humorous without having to try and dumb things down and act like someone half our age. I'm just one person, but the praise is genuine and I know that all those who view your channel feel the same way as I've read their comments as well. Really hope you expand and get the subscribers you deserve. Void is a really deep and weird game, but I really think you'll like it. It's on GOG. It's one of those rare tough gems that's hard but pretty fair, and you cannot expect to finish it on your first play through. It's hard and will require you to restart a few times from the beginning til you get the hang of it, but the deep story, choices, gameplay, and art design really make it a rare diamond that many people have missed over, whether by never hearing of it or giving up early because it doesn't hold your hand and has a huge learning curve. But the story is deep and may make you have an existential crisis. You should also do a review of the classic Pathologic! They released an HD version and are working on a sequel that should be out this year I think. That was another PC classic that is somewhat lesser known

I jut recently bought this game, near mint condition with the box and manual (literally everything), and stopped playing it after nearly an hour. It was tedious. This is definitely a game meant for the PC. And after I died a few times, the game completely erased my save data. If this was PC and didn't erase your save data after a few deaths, I would have continued playing.
@FridayNightArcade

The battery inside the cart can go bad after 20+ years causing your save files to ... well.. not save. Usually will have to be replaced once in your lifetime if you wish to play on original hardware.
@neonnwave1
@neonnwave1 4 года назад
@@FridayNightArcade I did some digging and there have been some confirmation to that being more of a bug. As per comment from GameFAQ: "This seems more like a bug than a feature: If your 3 most recent "GAME OVERs" occur on the same screen then the game will reset and delete the save for whichever file you were using. This means you could have as few as 3 continues or an infinite number of them, depending on where & when your deaths/arrests occur."

@@neonnwave1 Whoa... well that stinks. I guess I never noticed that or had it happen to me as a kid when I played through this. Made it all the way through too. Guess I got lucky. I don't disagree with your earlier comment though. If you're just now discovering these games, it's probably way more accessible to just play the PC versions since it's so point-and-clicky. I guess 10-year-old me with no computer at the time was more forgiving and just happy to have a "PC experience" on the NES :D

@@FridayNightArcade I've played Clock Tower on the SNES (a translated repro-cart) and the sequel on PS1, which were also point and click. when you say adventure series, was that something Apple cam up with cuz this I'm pretty sure was released for the very first time on the Apple II in '84 or '85 then it was ported to a lot of other pc's, cuz apple had a few of these mystery adventure games that I think they kind of marketed in a themed series, not that they were an actual series. I love though throughout the years there will be prime hidden gems or underrated games I think why doesn't someone review/preview that game and then you do

I may have been a little hard to understand... the series is actually called the "MacVenture Series" ... I should have spelled that out more in the video so it didn't sound like I was calling it the "adventure series" lol... sorry about that. You are correct. These games were first released on Apple IIGs, Mac, Atari ST, Commodore 64, Amiga before eventually being ported to the Famicom and NES. The MacVenture games were created by ICOM Simulations who were also responsible I'm not even sure if they officially marketed it as "MacVenture," it just kinda came to be called that. oh actually cuz it did sound like you were saying something like adventure with a prefix before it and I had forgotten they were called mac venture so now that you mention it you said it properly and it isn't hard to understand, also to with my grandmother being from Scotland I tend to over emphasize the pronunciation of Mac to clearly distinguish it from the anglicized Mc which has now been know as the Irish Gaelic prefix, but yeah awesome job man keep making great stuff cuz your production quality is so superior to a lot of other channels I've seen so I'm sure you will grow into 10's of thousand of subcribers then onto 100,000 and I'm not just saying this cuz there are youtubers I know who started with a couple hundred of subs and now have over 200k and there videos even at this point are not of your quality
