See here for longer 3 minute version - • TT - Union Mills Incid...
Walked from the Braddan Bridge Campsite to Union Mills to watch the practice at 18:00. 15+ riders through with no issues until #54 came down the hill & overcooked the right hander outside the Railway Inn. Locked everything up, hit the curb, bounced into the padding & back into the road. Sod’s law says I missed video’ing the crash itself, so this is seconds later. The rider jumped up straight away, checked out by the doctor & seems fine. A lucky competitor from the Republic of Ireland - James Chawke . Someone else captured the crash itself • tt 2022 crash
The majority of marshals are bikers, the lead marshals have years of experience, indepth incident management & other training. They're all volunteers, doing it for the love of the sport.

To commenters that slag off the marshals: If you dropped your bike off its stand in a car park & some random guys walked up and dragged it away on it's side you'd be rightly annoyed. If you're a TT competitor that's just hit a 4" curb at 60MPH & trashed your front end you'd be happy for the marshals to makes sure you're OK and then safely get the bike off the course with minumum disrruption to one of the very limited number qualifying sessions. The majority of marshals are bikers, the lead marshals have years of experience, in depth incident management & other training. They're all volunteers, doing it for the love of the sport.

For anyone out there complaining about how they moved this rider's bike off the track.... Even if they had of lifted it on to it's wheels they would still have the issues of it :- 1:- being stuck in gear. 2:- handle bars were broken. (So tricky to operate the clutch) 3:- the possibility of the wheel being jammed against the fork's etc. Imagine the next rider coming through that corner just a little to wide and hitting that solid stationary object laying in the road! Doesn't bare thinking about! Also put yourself in the Marshalls shoe's, with other racers coming past you at over 100mph. Stay safe!

The TT circuit is unique. The public roads are closed for a limited number of fixed periods. There’s very little ‘slack’ to cover bad weather & other incidents. So keeping everyone safe is the first priority but keeping the circuit open for racing is a close second.

(Notice that the rider in this incident wasn't at all concerned about the scratches added to his bike - he knows the protocol used on a live race circuit.)

The rider looked at grandpa like “ come on man you just scratched up my bike” that was worse than nails on a chalkboard watching those guys not pick up the bike but drag the crap out of it engraving the street!!!!

The first priority is the wellbeing & safety of everyone; rider, marshals, public & other riders still racing. The next priority is keeping the race session running. Road closures for racing are strictly limited during the TT; track time is precious. No one would be thanked for red flagging the session just to save a few scratches on one, already damaged machine.

As long as the rider is ok sod the bike! Marshalls could get hit even on yellows.

Most of those guys used to be racers in the isle of man, and You're on RU-vid making fun of them ? How about not being a waste of space and doing something in your life. Misery loves company.

3 marshals, all of senior age, on a race track with motor cycles passing at a fair lick. And they call this a world class event

It’s pretty unique. Well worth getting there if you can.

I mean did they ever consider picking the bike back up on its wheels rolling it out of the road? What the hell was that display

I'm pretty sure they do have straps - but evidently didn't chose to use them in the situation

If the bike didn't suffer from any damage before - finally the marshalls managed to damage it. 🤷🏼‍♂️

The front end was wrecked, including the frame headstock area (before the marshals safely cleared it from the road)
