I know the point you're making is that one can play these instruments in different ways, but for those not familiar with the Charango, it's still worth checking out how these are typically played. The strumming and rythimic patterns are quite impressive. As many mentioned, a good place to start is Jaime Torres (or the random guy from a Bolivian guitar store that pops up when you search for Charango on RU-vid). Thanks for popularising this!
@jorgetrimboli

Charango, typical instrument from Bolivia, Peru, Argentina, Chile and part of Brasil. Open a map, identify the area where these countries have boundaries and there is where charango is from. Jaime Torres was the first charango concert player in the 60s. Look for Misa Criolla and you will listen his playing. Thank you Tim Pierce for bring this especial instrument in your world wide show!

Crazy! I attended my first “Grandmother” ceremonies in New Mexico a year ago May. The charango features prominently in Amazonian spirituality and-between “getting well” in the bucket I’d been provided, I was mesmerized by the music and promptly ordered 4 from Charango Mall in Bolivia to give 3 to my besties and keep one. I wish you would give me lessons. Recently, after my cousin lost her infant son, I bought a 1948 Martin Tiple that sounds kind of like a tinny upright piano. I really love your videos and your energy. Thank you. Peace.

I'm on my second charango....also picked up a Tiple at a yardsale made from an armadillo shell in 1961 by a Portuguese exchange student in 61...love these instruments....the charango is like a miniature harp...I first saw one played by the Andean group Sukay...my charangos are tuned traditionally and 10 string instruments..

I have been playing charango since I was 15. I am not a master as I decided to play a wider breadth of musical instruments but I very much enjoy your use of the instrument and and how you have adapted it to a unique style of music. The charango does benefit from a bit more amplification, eq and effects. Spectacular and keep on playing.

So basically, it's a chagango with the nut and bridge saddle reworked to have six courses insted of the usual five, and then tuned like a guitar. Considering how difficult actual soprano guitars are to find (and how expensive), I can see the use of that. There was a pre-existing solution, however, that I've been using for some years: the Goldtone G6 mandotar -- essentially a six-string neck fitted onto a mandolin body, and tuned like a guitar an octave up. Sounds pretty similar to what you've got there, too.

This was a treat of a video. I use contrabass guitar strings on my vintage Flamenco guitar to emulate the great Carlos Montoya who had his guitar tuned to low B and then capoed it on the 3rd fret. The sound they produce is wondrous, but I suspect the extra pressure has pulled the bridge off the soundboard. I fear I will have to revert to normal strings. You gotta have a specially built guitar whose bridge can withstand the extra kilos of pull.....brilliant video and even better playing, btw....

Got one. You want to play Peruvian Chicu? Cmajor second position with lift offs on the A string holding down the last E. Same tuning as Island Ukulele so new flavors to those chords when you play sometimes getting that extra E on some chords. Very intuitive for creating melodies and general jamming. Classic is 5 double course.

I have a charango. A traditional charango is tuned more or less like a ukulele with with a high E added as the first "pair". If you can play a ukulele, you can play a charango. I like the ones made more like a ukulele rather than the ones with the rounded back. They're more comfortable to play and they also tend to be better made (dried wood, no neck warping, etc). You have a very nice house by the way:)
