My 6s lasts a full day. Possibly your phone was bought a long time ago and the battery got worse after time. My mom's 6s actually does similar to yours, because hers iphone is like 4 years old, and mine is 1 year old with a replaced battery.
I am viewing this from a repaired Priv. I bought it in the same conditions and changed the screen and keyboard. It is slow and the battery does not perform but the feeling of typing with the keyboard is unique. Greetings from Argentina
Same same, I need two charges a day on mine. But I use it quite a lot. I think the processor is what drains battery most. I turn battery saving mode right after I unplug it if I need it to last for a whole day (when traveling or so). Gonna keep and love this phone as long as it works... Also, the camera is quite good, Hugh mentions that it's not made for photography, but Priv has one of the best pictures among smartphones for it's time
mine was great for about 3 months but then fell off a cliff. Battery would deplete like crazy on standby. any videos I took would stutter and have terrible framerate. i dropped it once and the power button wedged itself between the chassis and the back cover, which ended up breaking when I tried to put it back in place. Just such a shame about the specs as the design was my favourite from any phone i've had
Blackberry: "The battery is not user-replacable, please don't try it." Also Blackberry: Provides easy pull-tab that doesn't require tools or alchohol and isn't in risk of snapping halfway through removal Damn we need more Blackberry phones... It's such a shame to see them go
Not sure what he was getting at with those comparisons. The iPhone screen is twice as bright, 120hz, has much better brightness distribution and the more efficient cpu will more than compensate for the lower battery size. Not an apple fanboy but there's really no point cherry picking a couple specs like that.
modern phones keep getting longer so they can have more screen when the keyboard is open, priv solved this simply by sliding the keyboard out so you can see a full a4 page in word and type it all with the keyboard easily, idk why tf they havent made a new version
@@3a.m.284 That meme was dead on arrival, since you were trying to make boomer a state of mind when it is defined by an era. But keep flogging that dead horse
Back in the day I owned a Samsung J700i, which I found the most beautiful slider phone ever. I can't believe we were only capable storing like 5-6 MP3 files on it, and whenever we felt like we needed a new song on it, I had to delete it first and check up with my friends if they had cool songs on their phones, then transfer the song via Bluetooth which took ages. 😂 Couldn't store more then like 35 contacts on the simcard as well so you were always limited with who you had contact with. And oh my god, the times you had to pay 15 cents per text message, and waste your whole 20 euros on prepaid in one night when you had a bit of a lover. Those times though, much simpler times. Love it.
@@frequentlycynical642 Unfortunately, you are right. But I think that its mainly caused by improper adaptation of Android OS by develeoppers in BB. Keep in mind, that this phone was their first one with Android (while OS10 was piece of art). Also, if you do some improvement in PRIV's Android - like disabling animations and debloatwaring the phone by disabling unused apps, the phone starts to behave usable even in these days. OK, you dont have to bloatware it with full portion of Facebook, Instagram and other resource eating apps. And you still need to be patient i.e. while using Google Maps :-))) Simply said: You have to love PRIV if you still want to use it 🙂
Make sure you know what you’re talking about, mate. Priv got a good design but the performance is horrible due to bad compatibility. Phone gets hot in no time for no reason. Don’t get me wrong, I’m a die hard BB fan and I say this was the one that killed the original Blackberry phones
As always Hugh, I can't understand how and why haven't you passed the 1Mil mark here on youtube, you always seem so passionate about this stuff it's really inspiring. Keep it up mate!
*Sees Blackberry in the title*: “Meh” *Watches video and sees 1440p and a 3300mAh battery*: “Wow this was a great phone for 2015, what happened?” Seriously though if Blackberry slaps on top of the line specs with full Android support, and makes the price dirt cheap like a loss leader, they could stand a great chance in re-emerging in the phone market and restoring their reputation.
I bought a priv (and still have it) when it came out, and from an engineering perspective it's a masterpiece! In use, however the BB software it lays on top of is Soo resource hungry! And with only 3gigs of ram, it really struggles. Additionally, there were many bugs that came with the only update it got to marshmallow. I did love the the hardware though! Ironically enough, BB is just a software company now. I have a very let's wait and see attitude towards their 2021 phone they are releasing, but hey I would love to be proven wrong.
@@ChuckieV79 I still have my priv, I love it, despite it randomly restarting sometimes, keyboard randomly not working. Freezing/not responding. Along with all the other errors. It gives the phone some character haha
The Priv was the best phone I've ever owned. Built like a tank, fit perfectly in my (tiny womens jeans) pockets, and had a great keyboard. Heck, I sideloaded Blackberry's software keyboard on my new device because it's still the best software keyboard I've used. Only ended up upgrading after a few years when its small RAM quantity started getting too limiting.
watching this on a blackberry Priv i worked in a company that used to restore phones and last year i felt in love with it i know that is old and slow but how it feels in the hand and the quality is amaizing
The modern day smart phone market is just to complex. with the "this one had not home button" to "this has 5Gb of ram and is faster than my computer and costs as much as a small car" it is nice to go back, to simpler times when we still had physical keyboards.
I switched over to iPhone recently but I really love the Priv, never owned one because I was never sure of it, but if Blackberry released a Priv 2 with the same design running current flagship or even current premium mid ranger specs I'd buy one in a heartbeat to use as a second phone.
I am a huge Blackberry fan and you just made me wanna buy this phone ! The one I miss the most is the Passport. The last "true" BlackBerry and typing on that keyboard was a great feeling.
This phone is one of the best you could get around the time it came out, especially because of the touch sensitive keyboard. That is really, really useful and is designed so well. It is a shame that Blackberry just started to decline then, so it was never popular. I still miss physical keyboards, as I still cannot type reliably on a touchscreen keyboard.
The two-color temperature LED was so underrated. Basically this meant that it didn't matter how warm or cold your light was in the sign. It allowed you to adapt the flash to the envoirement resulting in more natural looking light. A much missed feature.
My Moto Z Play has that as well. It still shoots better photos than the phone I replaced it with with it's idiotic 4 camera array and single color LED. Not to mention for the flashlight/torch function the Motorola enables both LEDs at the same time so it's ridiculously bright. Guess dual tone LEDs are going the way of the dodo, just like IR blasters, replaceable storage in the form of microSD cards and dual-SIM functionality that isn't intentionally crippled...
I have always loved BB phones because of the physical keyboard, is the best and fastest way to type over any phone and they are just so pretty and elegant
the key board on this is touch sensitive so its sort of like a trackpad, it can do some gestures and scroll etc but unfortunately it doesnt give you a mouse pointer in the web which would have made it amazing at surfing the web as you could navigate desktop sites on mobile with precision
That slide and physical keyboard reminds me of my old HTC Desire Z, still have it and it still works. Loved that thing, even if it was a bit odd for the time.
Higher capacity Than the 11 pro yes, but that A13 chip in the iPhone is so efficient, I can get 3 days out of a full charge from my 11 pro max. Capacity isn’t always better
the only reason your iPhone last you that long is because you have been using certain things in the software to make it last that long because an iPhone is not supposed to last that long on its own
Well if they had used this 5 year old tech then you would get more than the 3 days you claim to get, they can innovate but they choose to hold back, that's what people criticize apple for
Try this repair with an iphone. Love their products but their practice's make it unaffordable for the normal person outside the US and europe. I can get a battery for my galaxy in the shop around the corner, for an iPhone battery replacement i have to go to the certified shop and wait about 2 weeks for one.
I used Priv for few years. It was really wonderful device. If BB releases Priv 2 i'll preorder without doubt. I am now using newer Samsung Note 9 and i still missing my BB. BTW media consumption on that phone was really nice, front-facing speaker is good for 2015 phone, camera is not amazing, but with if you have good lightning conditions it can take nice picture. Only real issue that i had was phone overheating in summer, when it was hanging on my car windshield in holder when navigating using Google Maps.
Wait wait wait, why are the icons exactly like Samsung's one ui? Also, it a shame to see such a good brand like this fade into the darkness, because this phone looks like it'd be a keeper for anyone that bought it.
I still have mine, it's a little neat phone. It's been retired for a while now and I am using an Fxtec Pro1 instead. Even when I am not using the PRIV as a daily driver anymore it doubles as a great video recording device. (it does great 1080p 60 fps and even can do 4k at 30fps) Honestly for its time it was very well equipped apart from that Snap 808.
The people who disliked, did it for one of two reasons. One) They don’t like the Priv, not Hugh Jefferys, or Two) they had their phone flipped upside down.
we’re coming full circle, now that every phone looks the same with huge screen and virtual keyboard, old school mechanical keyboard slide/flip phones are getting attractive
I've always had Blackberry phones, and I've been using one of these since they came out, and I gotta say, I've loved owning it, but it's not without its issues. The power and volume up and down buttons are prone to failure, it overheats constantly, it reboots itself without warning occasionally, the battery is horrendous, the overall build quality isn't quite on par with earlier Blackberry's (I had the Blackberry Classic prior to this which just feels way more premium), the screen is also apparently prone to failure too (but I can't say I've experienced this until VERY recently). If it wasn't for the build quality issues, this would by far be the best Blackberry phone ever made IMO. Really cool video btw!
The carbon fibre is the BB10 era "Glass Weave". I guess it's a fibreglass. It's very transparent to RF waves and feels so good. (I loved the way it felt on my Q10)
I loved this phone so much, now I really miss it. I still have it somewhere, but it has broken screen. It was too expensive to repair, as it was almost as much as a new one. Now I have BlackBerry Key2. Can't wait for what they will come up with. I just cannot use a phone without phisical keyboard 🤷♀️🙈
superb video. Blackberry makes super reliable phones with less marketing bullshit like the Apple products. i have used BlackBerry Bold 9900 for almost 5 years and never have one problem with.
yeah i had one of these when i worked it support in a law office. they said i could have my choice of any phone. i chose this one because of the keyboard. i loved, loved, loved this phone. the keyboard i guess. then i got downsized from the job and had to turn in the phone. life goes on.
I'm having this one Blackberry Priv STV-3 nice one till date I'm using. Need Battery and touch glass replace, but after the crak the front glass no any issue in touch, nice work the touch.
5:29 You ALWAYS want the absolute minimum amount of thermal paste that guarantees good contact with the heat sink. Paste doesn't cool anything by itself. If it does anything, it interrupts the heat exchange. We use the paste because it is still better than having pockets of air between the processor and the heat sink. It's basically a filler between the processor and the sink, and of course, you want as little filler as possible if you want the heat to reach the sink to be dissipated qiuckly.
